Scenes at St James. How has Burn not been booked? Could even be off. Same old anti football Newcastle. Didn't they play the least actual football last year? Like the Emirates last time. Player straight down when Arsenal break.

Anthony Gordon runs along the edge of the box to try and find space for a shot. None his forthcoming, so he backheels to a team-mate but Arsenal scramble clear before Gordon gives away a free kick.

Tino Livramento is down the other end of the pitch now, lifting a cross into the box, but it is an easy gather for David Raya.

There's no risk in the game at the moment.

Both sides are too scared to take a chance, show that bit of quality.

They are playing very, very safe, as if they would be happy for it to remain 0-0.

Pretty quiet start to the second half but at least it has not been an angry half so far like the first was.

I like Livramento, very good player, very good going forward as well.

Winning that first one on one duel with Martinelli will give him confidence going into the rest of the half. Managed to kick the ball out off the Arsenal forward to win the goal kick too.

Good early work by Tino Livramento as he flicks a clearance off Gabriel Martinelli's shin and the ball goes behind for a goal kick.

"Tino, Tino, Tino" rings out around the ground. A popular player already here.

We're back under way with Tino Livramento on for Dan Burn, who could not continue because of his back problem.

Ref (and his VAR non-assistants) has made a huge issue for the second half. Should be 10 v 10 (Havertz tackle is dangerous and Bruno’s elbow on Jorginho is so unnecessary and horrible to see). Wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if Havertz pops up with an assist/goal in an Arsenal win.

Havertz missed the player and his trailing leg caught him - NEVER a red! Bruno however should be off - clearly the VAR bottled it for fear of the reaction in the ground because that was a blatant forearm to the back of the head!

Thomas Frank gives his players a thumbs upImage source, Reuters

Brentford manager Thomas Frank speaking to BBC MOTD: "It's a fantastic team I'm in charge of. It's down to some remarkable players.

"Before Burnley, we were thinking 'now we need to win a game', and now we've won three in a row. With the amount of injuries we've had, that is incredible.

"We put a strong team out there and probably didn't have much to shoot from the bench. We lost [Aaron] Hickey to injury in the week so it was remarkable.

"At 2-1, there was only one team on the pitch. West Ham are a good team with good players. At the end of the first half we created chances in the last 10 minutes. We kept doing what the gameplan was and just found a tiny bit more quality.

"In general we like to cross it, there's no doubt about that. I think two goals came from the second phase of set-pieces."

On Nathan Collins scoring his first goal for the club: "Nathan deserves credit. He's been on an upward trajectory in the last few games.

"We knew when we signed him that he's good aerially in both boxes. What a header."

On Neal Maupay scoring for the first time since September 2022: "I can't stop smiling for him. I'm so happy he scored and that we won.

"He has worked so hard to come back to this level. Over the last three weeks, he's starting to get back to the Neal that I know. He looks sharper."

Rob in Manchester and Lee in Camberley, the ref hasn't lost control at all. He is perfectly applying the rules of the game. It is the behaviour of the players you need to look at.

    Simon, Solihull

Newcastle like to be physical, often too physical but then complain when the same is done to them. Similar to the ball out of play incidents last season.

Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi to Match of the Day: "I'm really proud of the performance; we are not in a brilliant moment. We have injuries and young players. It is a good point/ We are fighting.

"We dominated the game but to win you need to shoot and score; we are not shooting enough to win the games. We had the chances to score and we made mistakes. We have played Man City, Liverpool and Aston Villa, we deserved to win against Fulham.

"We lost big players in the transfer market. plus [Danny] Welbeck. [Julio] Encso, [Solly] March. to injury. I'd like to see the how other teams would play if they lost three players in the transfer market and to injury."

  15. 'Would've been harsh if we didn't win'published at 18:32 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2023

    FT: Sheff Utd 2-1 Wolves

    Sheffield United

    Paul HeckingbottomImage source, Getty Images

Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom speaking to BBC Match of the Day:

"Feeling a bit of everything. It was a hard-fought but well-deserved victory. It was a tame first half, both teams feeling each other out. We played with much more aggression and were forceful in the second half. We were dominant but Wolves defended well and chances were at a premium but we had the moments that would've won us the game and it would've been harsh if we didn't."

On Cameron Archer goal: "Good goal - I was comfortable with Cam going through one on one but if you watch it back they have some good pace chasing him down which forces him to take the shot earlier and he went for power and he's got that finish."

Thoughts when VAR taking a long time: "Honestly I try not to think about it. This season we have been in that position several times. I was hoping, praying it wasn't one of those occasions where it was overturned. When the decision was made we needed Ollie [Norwood] to execute and the players did really well there for Ollie to take his moment.

"Ollie has taken penalties for us before, he's a clean striker of the ball. VAR adds to the tension and difficulty of taking a penalty so it's a good idea to just hit it like that."

On fans: "They've been brilliant all season. They want to see the lads give everything. That's the type of performance everyone wants to see and everyone contributes to that players and fans.

"Our position [in the league] hasn't changed. It's time for cool heads and to understand what a battle and what a division we're in. We need more of that. We got ourselves in a position to force the issue at half time. We've been in that position a lot, at half time and even in injury time, and not been able to get over the line so that was a big one. It's about getting in a position to capitalise as much as possible."

  16. 'We're in a crazy place'published at 18:31 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2023

    FT: Sheff Utd 2-1 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves manager Gary O'NeilImage source, Getty Images

Wolves manager Gary O'Neill speaking to BBC Match of the Day:

"I don't really know what to say on it apart from it's not a penalty. I have spoken to the referee who says there is contact. I've watched it so many times, it's minimal contact between Fabio Silva's shin pad and George Baldock's calf. If that's a foul then there were a million fouls in that match today. The referee was so quick to want to give it, it's never a clear penalty. He just needs to wait calmly and if he's made a big error then VAR will let him know. It's never a penalty kick.

"Disappointed with that and with our second half. First half I thought we were excellent and should've taken some chances and should've been probably 2-0 up at half time. The game was scrappy second half and we didn't adapt to that, created some negative momentum and two crazy goals. The ricocheted one and the penalty. We sort of created that with the way we went about the second half. We need to be more clinical with the first half.

"I don't know where to go with it. We're told to go in and have a sensible conversation but I do and he's [Robert Jones] still sat there watching it with me and telling me it's a penalty. That tells me that we're in a crazy place. Baldock knows just to move his foot across, he goes down before the contact. The referee is telling me he doesn't see that which tells me we're in a real bad spot. We need to be better, though. We can't let these mad decisions decide things for us we've lost six points because of it this season.

"With the way the second half went leaving with a point would've been deserved. There's no way we deserved to lose the match. But we move on. Monday we need to get to work."

    FT: Brentford 3-2 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes speaking to BBC MOTD: "Disappointment that we didn't get something out of the game but it was our own downfall.

"We didn't deal with deliveries into the box. I don't think the third one should have been a goal, it looked offside to me.

"The first goal was Keystone Cops and incredibly poor from our point of view.

"Brentford are really good at getting balls into the box and we didn't deal with it at all.

"I thought Brentford improved 10 minutes before half time. We wanted the third goal quickly in the second half, but a simple ball over the top is put out for a corner kick and then they are a threat from the set piece.

"We've come into this game without two important players. We had a game midweek, Brentford didn't, and the scheduled probably hasn't worked well for us after we did really well against Arsenal [in the Carabao Cup]."

On Mohammed Kudus scoring his second league goal: "Kudus is a really good player, he's just getting better and is doing some really good things for us."

  19. 'It's not supposed to be easy when you come up'published at 18:28 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2023

    FT: Burnley 0-2 Crystal Palace

    Burnley

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany to BBC Match of the Day: "I think it's very simple, at the moment there are individual mistakes. That's what's costing us at this moment in time. I do believe in a game like this you can still turn it around and give yourself chances. But it's a game of fine margins. It's a difficult result of course.

"Look, the reality of the league is what it is. You can't hide away from it. The performance was good, we had chances. We didn't score, we conceded very little chances but we made a big mistake and that cost us. That's the reality of this league.

"Putting things into context, it's not supposed to be easy when you come up. We've just got to dust ourselves off and get ready to perform again and believe we will get the results that we need.

"You create the chances so you've got to be doing something to do that. I have every belief Jay Rodriguez can score, he's been doing that all his career. And a few others are on that path to become those players. That's a big thing for us to say, for us to lose one or two players is a big thing. We need everyone firing on all cylinders to get those goals and wins.

"We have to keep doing the work, stay calm. I'm not happy but I'm extremely motivated. It's a good squad and staff and people to work with."

On boos from the home fans at full-time: "The frustration came because we conceded the second goal 30 seconds before the final whistle. And of course it happens because we're sending players forward. But the fans are always behind us, they've been behind us today again. After you lose you will feel disappointed, like we already do.

"I'm fully focused on these players. We need to make sure this team gets results."

Bruno Guimaraes has done enough to earn two red cards there and hasn't even got a yellow? That is insane. He's a disgrace.

    Simon, Worthing

I'm a Newcastle fan and am happy to admit that Bruno is a very lucky lad. It's a shame games go like this, but the referee has to take responsibility. It's a red for Havertz.
