Chuffed for Harry Maguire, he may not be the world class defender United should have, but he is more than good enough for the current team. A lot of the team could learn from his hard working attitude.

Former Everton midfielder Leon Osman said Bill Kenwright was what made Everton "the people's club".

"He was a man who just loved the club, through and through," Osman told the Football Daily podcast.

"You could tell that from the minute you met him, you probably thought he was a fan first and chairman second. He was a man that made every decision with real passion and drive for the football club.

"He was a man that wanted to be a part of your life. As a player he wanted to get to know you but never overstepped the line by coming into the dressing rooms. All of his conversations were off the field and helped our families all feel a part of what was Everton.

"You measure people by how they treat people and he always made you feel like you were the centre of their world. That's an art. When you talk about Everton as the people's club, you think of that man."

Harry Maguire getting praise for scoring the winning goal is all well and good, but it's like every time he scores a goal for England, somehow that makes him a world-class centre-back. Base most judgement of him as a defender on how he performed defensively, not on his (very good) ability to score from set-pieces. Happy for the fella that he's having a chance to be the match-winning hero though.

  7. 'A real gentleman' - Kenwright's secret donationpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 25 October 2023

Tributes to Everton chairman Bill Kenwright following his death aged 78 have told of his kindness.

The mother of bucket list fundraiser Laura Nuttall, who died in May at the age of 23, said he made a donation to cover her treatment.

Nicola Nuttall shared on social media: "We kept this quiet at the time, but when Laura was first having treatment in Germany for brain cancer, Bill Kenwright donated £50,000 to make it possible.

"No fuss, no publicity, just genuine kindness from a real gentleman and a true blue.

"Rest in peace Bill and thank you."

Former striker Kevin Campbell says Bill Kenwright was "a real diamond of a man," who truly loved Everton.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Campbell said: "I knew Bill pretty well and he was just a really great man. He had blue Everton blood running through his veins.

"It's just so sad when I know he really wanted to turn things around for Everton as a football club but unfortunately now won't get the opportunity.

"He was a real diamond of a man. He was a fighter and he wasn't prepared to give up the ghost because he loved Everton."

  11. 'Jesus really is irreplaceable'published at 11:00 British Summer Time 25 October 2023

    Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell said Gabriel Jesus "is irreplaceable" after suffering a suspected hamstring injury.

Campbell told BBC Radio 5 Live: "100%. If it is a tweak of the hamstring then you don’t take risks with it that’s for sure.

"Arsenal do have the players who can fill in, but Jesus really is irreplaceable because he makes everybody else better."

On the Gunners' front three, Campbell added: "It really does [look quite something]. Especially in the Champions League.

"Jesus brings so much to the table because he’s so unpredictable. You saw last night with [Gabriel] Martinelli’s goal where one bit of skill and turn and that perfect pass can take five players out of the game.

"Arsenal needed that because Sevilla is a really difficult place to go and it’s a really big win for Arsenal. It was the tie of the group really. Arsenal really produced. They really went for the game and it was a lot better as an attacking threat.

"It was a really good result, really good performance and when they came under pressure, they were able to handle it. It was a really good learning curve for some of these young players."

Former Manchester United defender Steve Bruce says Arsenal are "really good competitors" after their Champions League win over Sevilla on Tuesday.

Bruce has praised Mikel Arteta for making big calls to improve the team, and believes the Gunners have a "real pressnce".

"Arsenal are a real threat up front," Bruce told the Football Daily podcast. "They are young, they've got a real presence about them.

"They've only lost once in all competitions; it was very comfortable at 2-0, then they conceded from a corner. That made it a little bit [nervy] at the end.

"They are a work in progress, but what a work in progress they've been. The quality of the players they've brought to the club, the young players they've brought through.

"You have to say a big 'well done' to Arteta over the last two years, the big changes he's made. He's got the vast majority of them right and made them really good competitors to Manchester City."

  13. 'Not good news' on Jesus injurypublished at 10:44 British Summer Time 25 October 2023

    Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal

    Gabriel JesusImage source, Getty Images

Mikel Arteta will be hoping his worst fears over Gabriel Jesus are not realised after he went off late on against Sevilla with a possible hamstring injury.

The Arsenal manager acknowledged the Brazil striker could now face another spell on the sidelines after missing the start of the season recovering from minor knee surgery.

Arteta told TNT Sports: "He straight away asked to be subbed which is not good news because Gabriel is not a player who does that at all.

"We will have to wait and see in the next few days."

  14. Jesus has 'changed our world' - Artetapublished at 10:39 British Summer Time 25 October 2023

    Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal

With 14 goals and four assists, Gabriel Jesus has been involved in 18 goals in his past 17 starts in the Champions League, 14 of which were for previous club Manchester City.

He's also just the second player to score in his first three appearances for Arsenal in the competition, after Marouane Chamakh in 2010.

  16. Arsenal's forwards 'will score a lot of goals'published at 10:22 British Summer Time 25 October 2023

    Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal

    Gabriel JesusImage source, Getty Images

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, after Arsenal's win against Sevilla, Dion Dublin discussed the Gunners' forwards.

"[Gabriel] Jesus does so much. Apart from scoring goals, he makes runs and works so hard. He holds the ball up well and if the ball into him doesn't work out he'll chase it down - defenders know when they're playing against Jesus.

"We know what Bukayo Saka can do, we don't know if Jesus might be injured now and Martinelli, we know he is a goal threat with an abundance of pace, so they tick three very different boxes as footballers which for defenders is a nightmare against them.

"If Mikel Arteta can play those three players as much as possible, they're going to score a lot of goals (this season)."

  17. Gunners win - but at what cost?published at 10:17 British Summer Time 25 October 2023

    Sevilla 1-2 Arsenal

Away from Old Trafford, Arsenal's own drama was playing out on Tuesday night in Seville, where Mikel Arteta's side secured a 2-1 win at the home of Europa League champions Sevilla.

Arsenal's second win in three Champions League matches moved them back top of Group B.

But the victory came at a cost, as Gabriel Jesus - who set up the opener and scored the Gunners' second - then limped off with a hamstring injury.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel spoke to Andre Onana after Tuesday night's game about his performance and that all-important penalty save.

"I'm just being myself, being calm and trying to put the pressure on the player," said Onana.

"I tried to make myself bigger and then decided to go to the left."

In response to Schmeichel calling him a hero, Onana added: "No, I don't think I am. I think the hero tonight is Harry [Maguire], he scored and gave us the victory.

"They brought me here for these kind of moments. I'm happy for the victory but we have to keep going.

"It's not the penalty, it's the victory that will give us more confidence. It's winning that gives you confidence. You can save many penalties but if you don't win then it doesn't feel as good."

Onana, who joined Old Trafford in the summer from Inter Milan, also wrote on X, external: "For all Mancunians, for us, for Sir Bobby Charlton. We are UNITED."

Last night's win changes nothing. Struggling to win against average opposition and getting well beaten by any team that's remotely decent. ETH has to take a lot of the blame, his poor transfers coupled with bad selections and tactics. Also, until Utd ship out the likes of Rashford and Fernandez they will never move forward. Rangnick was right and nobody listened.
