  1. 'We made three big mistakes'published at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    FT: Chelsea 3-2 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It is hard because I think we played much better than Chelsea. We made three big mistakes, two set pieces in the first half and we conceded the third goal in an incredible way.

"It as clear penalty for them but we can’t concede a counter-attack in that way. A corner for us. In that way we are young but we need to be more focused in that situation, a set pieces.

"We lost the game from that situation, not from the play because we played a great game. But football is like this."

On VAR decisions: "I don’t want to speak about the referee. I would like to speak about football. Football with the ball, without the ball.

"In possession, chances to score, chance to concede goals, other things. I want to be better and so I don’t want to speak."

On Billy Gilmour: "He is becoming a very good player. In that situation, the third goal when we conceded the penalty he could have organised better with more personality and responsibility. But anyway, I’m really pleased with his performance."

"We played another great game. Much better than AEK Athens, much better than Nottingham Forest. The quality of the play was great but there are a lot of teams with incredible quality in set pieces and set pieces are part of football. You need to be more focused with a different attitude.

"I’m really happy for the future of the club but I want to win now and I want to reach the target now because we have to do better. We have to play in a stronger way."

Liverpool matchwinner Trent Alexander-Arnold, speaking to BBC Sport: "Ecstatic. Important game and important goal for the team. We needed to win. At 87 minutes it didn't look likely at all but we dug deep and found a way. We did that last week and we've done it again today.

"We knew there would be a lot of time added on and we knew there would be chances for us in the game.

"The momentum from the crowd and the players was to push forward and get that winner.

"Technically I've not scored two, but I'll claim it. It is nice when a free kick comes off the woodwork and finds a way in. A lovely strike if I say so myself.

"When I scored the free kick I thought that was the goal of the game but then 20 minutes later Mac Allister goes and scores that outstanding strike.

"We earned it, we dug deep and we found a way. Although there is a bit of relief we earned it with the chances we created."

  3. 'Game still in the balance'published at 17:26 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    HT: Man City 2-1 Tottenham

    Dion Dublin
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

This game is still in the balance for me.

When Spurs they break they do so at pace and get a lot of players forward, and they work hard.

The issue is that they are playing the best in the business. Doku has had so many chances for City, plenty of joy on that side and he will fancy himself a goal in the second half. Haaland has missed a few big chances too.

Spurs have a great chance of getting something.

  4. 'We deserved more but we didn't take'published at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    FT: Liverpool 4-3 Fulham

    Fulham

Fulham manager Marco Silva to BBC Match of the Day: "I'm really proud of them, definitely. The way we played, the way we matched Liverpool. The way we showed the spirit.

"It was great, great goals every time. Normally that doesn't happen. They scored four great goals from long distance. But the way we reacted every time from those situations. Even we were able to lead the score 3-2 for part of the second half.

"Of course I am proud. We didn't deserve the result, definitely in my opinion. Even if you look to the first half of course we were much more controlled, won the ball from Liverpool. They didn't create many chances in the first half, apart from the great goals they scored I don't remember one clear chance from them.

"Second half for the 3-2 yes they had a counter-attack with Darwin Nunez hitting the crossbar. From that moment they didn't create anything more until we scored to go 3-2. The game was really under control in that situation.

"We didn't deserve the fourth goal against us. When the cross comes in from Darwin [Nunez] Bobby [De Cordova-Reid] challenges the ball in the air and [Konstantinos] Tsimikas, there is a fall on him. The referee should see. But I don't want to go in this direction, I really want to talk about the positives from the game.

"We are taking many [positives] but unfortunately not points. But this is something we will take into the future.

"This is our image as a team. We want to play in a certain way and build something in this football club. We have to express ourselves on the pitch and the way we did it was really good.

"Unfortunately for us we deserved more but we didn't take."

  5. 'We needed to show a different face'published at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Crazy. It’s the most competitive league.

"We started well, we were playing well 11 v 11. It was a complicated second half with one player less.

"Brighton are a very good team and are playing well. We had to go deep but we scored the third goal with one man less.

"The team is tired, we are all tired but overall happy. After Newcastle, we needed to show a different face. That’s why I’m happy."

On flat performance after going 2-0 up: "Only the last five minutes before we conceded a goal and got the red card. I need to watch the game again but second half was good. Overall, we deserved to win."

On Gallagher red card: "I don’t believe it was. I need to see it again. We need to understand the referee but they are need to understand us."

On VAR decisions: "Why did they give the penalty and then check VAR [for the Colwill handball]?

"It is difficult to understand why. It is not to complain, to criticise. Why was the penalty of Mudryk waiting for VAR and he gave the handball? It is so weird the way we use VAR sometimes.

"But we need to be happy after a win."

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BBC Sport: "What can I say? We played an incredible game until we didn't anymore.

"All credit to Fulham, they did really well. Today we scored four worldies and were lucky in the end to win the game, and that tells you everything.

"I told the boys if we can keep that feeling around 3-3, when we kept believing. We wanted to win the game and I liked that, you could see it in the body language of the boys.

"Four goals I have never seen before in one game like this to be honest.

"The game was in control, we did really well and did a lot of good stuff but then we didn't defend well in the moments.

"There was a period it was all over the place and it didn't make much sense but the Premier League is too tough if you want to win in a convincing way.

"The second for Trent was very, very special. I really feel for Marco Silva afterwards, I think when they scored the 3-2 they thought they had it but this is Anfield and we are still there."

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Buzzing to get my first Premier League goal and first for Chelsea, unfortunately it was against Brighton. But happy to help the team get the three points.

"I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Brighton. I've got a lot of respect for them."

On winning with 10 men: "It shows that we’re good as a team and can get through tough moments.

"It shows what a good team we are, sticking in with 10 for the whole second half."

On the late penalty that was overturned: "I don’t know what happened, it clearly hit my face. I was showing everyone the mark on my face. But it was overturned so we got the right decision."

  9. 'A good start to a busy period'published at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    FT: Liverpool 4-3 Fulham

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports: "I don't think I ever saw a game with this amount of beautiful goals. But because we were a bit dumb we almost gave it away. In the first half when we gave the goals away the defending was awful.

"Football is decided in details. We were really good in the game and played a lot of good stuff but it was 2-2 at half time and deserved.

"They were there and scored a wonderful goal and it was 3-2 and everyone in a Fulham shirt thought that was it maybe and then we throw back with two worldies.

"We changed system a couple of times. There were tight moments, a lot of credit to Fulham, they had a really good idea, when we lost momentum they were there to cause us problems.

"Today the big shadow on the game is Joel Matip. A really unlucky situation but it doesn't look good. I am pretty sure he will be out.

"We have to get through this, this was a good start of the busy period."

  10. 'We feel we can win any game'published at 17:19 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    Dominic SolankeImage source, Getty Images

Bournemouth goalscorer Dominic Solanke: "It feels like a loss conceding so late but they are a top side playing ther best football in years.

"We want to make this stadium a tough place to come and we are building towards that. We are on a good run of form and have two more games this week. We have a good feeling behind us.

"Their goalkeeper has pulled off some fine saves and I could have had more. We are confident right now and feel we can win any game."

  11. 'Ollie Watkins is a top striker'published at 17:19 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey: "It was a fun game to play in but a very difficult one. We never gave up and fought to the end and are grateful for a point.

"The Premier League is difficult and the challenge is more away from home. We stuck together as a team. My goal was normal for a winger. Ollie Watkins is a top striker and he did what top strikers do, he stepped up."

Lo Celso is on a bit of a tighrope.

The referee is seeing everthing he is doing, little nibbles and late challenges at Silva and Akanji.

He needs to be more careful here, Spurs won't want another red card this season.
