With the chances we have seen in this game it could have easily already been 2-2.

Haaland has had chances, the Spurs break down the right a few minutes ago. Good game, plenty of chances.

Spurs keeper Guglielmo Vicario rolls a pass to Emerson Royal, who takes his eyes off the ball and lets it run to Julian Alvarez. But the City man can't take advantage.

Enjoyable day of Premier League football so far.

  4. Instructions for Vicariopublished at 16:54 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    Man City 1-1 Tottenham

When Tottenham were taking the first of their two corners just now, Guglielmo Vicario was getting some detailed instructions shouted to him from the bench.

The information seemed to be about what movements he should be making with the ball at his feet to give him the best chance of delivering passes into the right area.

I am guessing 'just hoof it' is not part of the tactical masterplan.

Ruben Dias almost does a Son Heung-min (the bad version) but it goes the right side of the post from his point of view.

The Portuguese slides in to put Brennan Johnson's cross behind basically is what I'm trying to say.

From the corner, Dejan Kulusevski flashes a cross-shot wide.

Tottenham are absolutely dreadful. So much space for city. This is gonna end up being 5-1 probably

Spurs aren't going to throw FOUR 1-0 leads away in a row are they? Surely?

I'm pretty sure Ange Postecoglou will be pretty happy with how Spurs have started this game.

Even though City have had most of the ball the game is fairly even, Spurs are staying tight and forcing them to go around the outside.

Tottenham win their first corner of the game. They play it short and it ends up in another corner.

Son Heung-min is the first player to score a goal and an own goal in the opening 10 minutes of a Premier League match since Aston Villa's Gareth Barry on 8 May 1999 in a 4-3 home loss to Charlton Athletic.

Spurs are being penned in somewhat here. City not giving them time to think.

But Ben Davies helps carry them forward finally.

    City are just relentless.

Every time the ball is dropping into the forward areas they are making sure they are first to it. Just upping the pressure a bit now.

This has started like the famous Champions League quarter-final here in 2019, when City won 4-3 but went out after what would have been a tie-winning goal from Raheem Sterling in injury-time ruled out by VAR.

It really should be 2-1. I can't believe Erling Haaland missed that chance.

Spurs kit is dreadful. Looks like something you’d pick up if you were about to start work in a steel furnace.

    Alan

@Ed 16:36 Why do they have to wear an away kit anyway? There's no colour clash. One of my pet hates with modern football

Now Erling Haaland fails to control a fairly straightforward cross. So he'll probably end up with a hat-trick.

I'm in shock that Haaland has missed.

Tottenham caught trying to play out, Haaland is no more than ten yards out, keeper nowhere and he puts it wide!
