Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer is "stable" after he suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch during the abandoned Premier League match at Bournemouth yesterday.

Both sets of players were taken off midway through the second half as Lockyer received medical treatment.

The 29-year-old was responsive as he was carried off on a stretcher to applause and taken to hospital.

Luton said Lockyer was "stable and currently undergoing further tests".

The Wales international collapsed during the play-off final win against Coventry in May before being taken to hospital.

He subsequently had heart surgery and was given the all-clear to return to playing in June.

  5. Team news - Gunners unchanged, Mitoma starts for Brightonpublished at 13:00 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2023

    Arsenal v Brighton (14:00 GMT)

After giving minutes to some fringe players in the Champions League dead rubber at PSV Eindhoven midweek, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has reverted to a more familiar line-up.

The Gunners boss names the same XI which started last weekend's defeat at Aston Villa.

A couple of tweaks to the bench, with Emile Smith Rowe back among the subs. However, Jorginho is missing from the squad.

Arsenal XI: Raya, White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko, Rice, Odegaard, Havertz, Saka, Martinelli, Jesus.

Brighton were also in European action but, with a Europa League game which had something riding on it and a long injury list to deal, Roberto de Zerbi does not have too much room for manoeuvre.

De Zerbi makes three changes to the starting XI from last weekend's home draw against Burnley, with winger Kaoru Mitoma, full-back Joel Veltman and midfielder Billy Gilmour brought in.

Joao Pedro, Mahmoud Dahoud and Carlos Baleba drop to the bench, where there is also a place for former Gunners striker Danny Welbeck after injury.

Brighton XI: Verbruggen, Veltman, Van Hecke, Dunk, Milner, Gilmour, Gross, Adingra, Lallana, Mitoma, Ferguson.

Arsenal will go top for a few hours at least if they beat Brighton. If they don't, then Aston Villa could go top.

Alternatively, if they both lose then Liverpool could seal top spot at Christmas if they beat Manchester United later.
