Garnacho and Antony are going to hurt Liverpool on the counter. Tsimikas and Trent are not good enough defensively.

The quality of football is poor, the atmosphere is lacking...remind me again why this game is hyped so much...

    Dave, Timperley

Nunez’s arrogance and lack of discipline would be less annoying if he actually scored a few more and got his head down.

  3. YELLOW CARDpublished at 35 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

Sofyan Amrabat is the latest player to be booked as he stops Luis Diaz's surging run towards the box.

Liverpool have a free kick that is in a good position to get the ball into the area.

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

Yes, Liverpool have dominated possession but I wouldn't say it has been the mismatch that was largely predicted. To Manchester United's credit, they are doing a pretty decent job of containing the home side.

  5. Postpublished at 32 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

Luis Diaz controls the ball well, turns and quickly tries to play in Darwin Nunez, but he is offside.

Ten Haag deserves more time. Ferguson took 5 years to get it right at utd. Give him a proper chance. We need to be patient.

Here's an idea, play a left footer on the left wing and a right footer on the right wing and cross it for Hojland instead of cutting inside into the congestion in the middle.

Szoboszlai, Trent and Salah down this right-hand side are just getting the final pass wrong at the moment. If they get it right then they're in behind Luke Shaw every single time.

It's just the final pass that they're lacking.

It's not about trying to emulate last year's 7-0. That's not going to happen as bad as Utd are. I'll settle for a 2-0 win but we don't need 100 mile an hour football. Patience is the name of the game

    Bill, Liverpool

Players don't half embarrassing themselves sometimes, it was a clear foul by Nunez and a yellow card for kicking the ball away. And to make things worse, he sarcastically claps the assistant ref. If the letter of the law was applied, he couldn't have argued if he got a second yellow.

  9. CLOSE!published at 30 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

    There's that first meaningful save!

Virgil van Dijk is up to meet the delivery from the corner and it is a powerful header at goal, but Andre Onana pushes the ball over.

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

For all of Liverpool's dominance of possession so far they've not actually worked a meaningful save out of Andre Onana yet.

They do have yet another corner, however, maybe now is their chance?

Card number two of the game and first for Manchester United as Kobbie Mainoo flies in late on Wataru Endo.

Mainoo was immediately apologetic for the challenge.

There's got to be one Manchester United player who can get his foot on the ball and start to find his team-mates, surely?

Phil: Amrabat having another terrible game. Too slow, almost incapable of anticipating Liverpool's play.

Nick: Watching this game as a neutral, Man U are playing like they are just waiting to get beaten. Liverpool have been all over them. It's almost like a training exercise of the first team attacking against the youth team defending

All these people still claiming that Man Utd are still one of the biggest clubs in the world....how many of their players would get into the Villa squad, let alone the first team?

    Tom

Man Utd should never had De Gea go, he was a great shot stopper and a saver of the ball which Onana is not and Onana has not shown he is comfortable playing the ball out with his either. There’s an old saying united fans should remember “be Carey what you wish for”

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

Mohamed Salah tries to release Dominik Szoboszlai inside the box but puts a bit too much on his pass and it goes behind for a goal kick.

The home fans then start to boo as they feel Manchester United are taking too long with their goal kick.

We’ve already seen two examples of why Hójlund doesn’t score many. Antony and Garnacho are both greedy, they cut inside and shoot for themselves every time.

We have the game's first booking as Darwin Nunez is shown a yellow card for a foul.

I doubt that will be the last time Michael Oliver reaches into his pocket.

Liverpool are putting everything in the box, there's lot of red shirts.

It's waves after waves of Liverpool attacks.

This is relentless from Liverpool, the press is spot on. The Manchester United players can't even lift their heads or get out of their own final third.

Tom: It's been way overhyped that we're going to walk over United. It's going to be much tighter than people think, and as Joseph and his dreamcoat nearly said, any win will do!

Mike: I was there at Old Trafford in 1974 the day United got relegated. This squad's performances so far this season bring back the wretched memories. Just as happened then, it will take a generation of change at United for the club to be pushing for elite trophies again.

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

Liverpool have their sixth corner of the game just 19 minutes in. Virgil van Dijk gets his head to the ball into the box but again it is blocked by the heavily-worked Manchester United defence.
