Oh, what a chance! It's brilliant from Wilson Odobert, who skips past Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai with wonderful feet.

He picks out Jóhann Gudmundsson at the back post but he heads it just over the bar! He was unmarked and knows that's a big chance.

That feels like the kind of decision where the VAR has looked at the offside in complete isolation, not the whole situation. If you factor in the push from Beyer, it might be left with the onfield referee's original call. Ah well, never mind.

    Tom

Not sure why all the complaints for that disallowed goal are on the push. More relevantly for me, there's no chance the keeper saves it with or without Salah there. Therefore he's not interfering...

    Chris, Bristol

Can I just shock you? I think VAR is great.

It's ridiculous how much human involvement in the VAR system makes it such a horrible part of the game.

    Ken

VAR useless once again. Salah was clearly pushed by Beyer into an offside position. I saw that before the replay. How can VAR not see that?

    Joe, Ilkley

I don’t get that, he’s clearly been pushed into an offside position, so why should the goal be disallowed ?

GOAL - Burnley 0-2 Liverpoolpublished at 18:42 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Harvey Elliott (55 mins)

    This is a lovely goal.

Liverpool have carried on where they left it in the first half, dominating possession and patiently finding ways to open up Burnley.

Harvey Elliott and Ryan Gravenberch link-up with a nice one-two, and the youngster carefully places it into the bottom corner.

    James Trafford didn't move.
