Dave: Palmer was instrumental in the super cup, amongst others. He is way above 'mid-table' level.

It's well known that if you want to leave Pep's team he won't stop you, regardless of your quality, which is what happened here.

    Cole Palmer

    Cool, calm and composed!

Honestly, watch Match of the Day later because it really is a lovely finish by Cole Palmer.

Nicolas Jackson does really well to thread a pass through the middle and Palmer rolls the ball away from the goalkeeper, then again from sliding in Luton players before slotting in.

The three points are in the bag for Chelsea.

Getting into that stage where if Luton are going to somehow rescue this they need to score soon.

It is hard to see them getting a better chance than the one that Elijah Adebayo should have perhaps reacted better to a couple of minutes ago.

Kevin de Bruyne is on the bench for Manchester City, who make two changes from the side that beat Everton on Wednesday.

It is the first time De Bruyne has made a matchday squad since August, when he was sidelined with a hamstring injury he picked up in City’s opening game of the season at Burnley.

Mateo Kovacic replaces Matheus Nunes in midfield and, with John Stones out with the ankle injury he sustained against the Toffees, Josko Gvardiol comes into their defence at left-back, with Nathan Ake moving across to partner Manuel Akanji in the middle.

Man City XI: Ederson, Walker, Ake, Akanji, Gvardiol, Rodri, Kovacic, Silva, Foden, Grealish, Alvarez

Subs: Ortega, Dias, Phillips, De Bruyne, Gomez, Nunes, Bobb, Lewis, Hamilton.

Sheffield United make five changes after their 3-2 defeat by Luton on Tuesday.

James McAtee is ineligible to face his parent club while Gustavo Hamer is suspended, so Oliver Norwood and Anis Ben Slimane come into midfield. William Osula leads the line with Cameron Archer and Olie McBurnie both dropping to the bench.

Sheff Utd XI: Foderingham, Bogle, Baldock, Robinson, Trusty, Thomas, Norwood, Souza, Ben Slimane, Brooks, Osula

Steve: Got to feel a bit for Jackson absolutely nothing he tries comes off as a result he will surely be coming off.

Ashley: I feel sorry for Jackson and all the abuse he is getting from the fans, but he really doesn't look like he wants to be out there today.

    Big opportunity for Luton!

Ross Barkley does really well to get the ball out to Tahith Chong, who plays a brilliant ball across the face of goal but Elijah Adebayo just doesn't react quickly enough to get there.

As much as Luton try, they are just not Premiership level. No one is questioning their endeavour, but this game shows they lack the skills needed.

Morris had a crucial impact off the bench against Sheffield United last-time out, will he have likewise here?

Half a chance for Chelsea as Nicolas Jackson has a bit of space ahead of him just outside the box, but his low drive is straight at Thomas Kaminski.

Both sides are preparing to make changes.

Palmer looks good for a mid table team, but probably would look lost amongst a team seeking to retain the title.

Mudryk and Nkunku on for Broja and Jackson. There's some serious goals on the break available here. Need some oomph to stop this game descending into nervousness.

There's definitely a bit more bite in the Luton attack and Tahith Chong is involved in some more good play by the hosts as his shot just inside the box is blocked by Thiago Silva.

Martin: Gav 13:32 re. Palmer. I think City sold him because they underestimated his ability and overestimated their own depth. Chelsea should not make that mistake with Madueke. He was very good for the U21s.

Daniel: Re 13:32 - We sold Palmer because he wanted the move. He's started well at Chelsea, good luck to him, but we'll do fine without him - no sense keeping people who don't want to be there.
