If Madueke and Mudryk can start firing, I think Chelsea have a genuine chance of getting top 4.

Still can't fathom why City sold Palmer, he looks the real deal.

  6. Just don't mention the points deductionpublished at 13:31 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2023

    Wolves v Everton (15:00 GMT)

It's a trip to the Midlands for Everton to end a tumultuous 2023, which saw the club change managers, avoid relegation on the final day of the season, undergo the uncertainty of a takeover and see 10 points snatched away from them.

But whatever you do, don't mention the points deduction to Sean Dyche - I did once but I think I got away with it.

The sanction imposed has such an impact that the Toffees would be seven places better off in the table, and a point above today's opponents Wolves.

Manager Gary O'Neil has pointed to Everton's punishment for breaching financial fair play rules in his matchday programme, saying: "Sean Dyche has got his team playing some very good football.

"Without their 10-point deduction, they would be right up there with us in the table so we are not going to underestimate the threat they can cause today."

    .

It’s been a vintage year for Aston Villa, particularly in their own backyard. I thought Unai Emery captured their current situation perfectly this week when he said they can be both ‘comfortable and demanding’ about their league position.

They should be comfortable, because they’ve achieved more than most could have imagined. But be demanding too, because the biggest prize of them all is still in their eyeline.

Andy: Weird mixture of emotions as a Chelsea fan. I’m not sure I’ve ever been so frustrated by a 2-0 half-time lead. Jackson has been the worst player on the pitch and we can’t keep the ball in midfield, but we’ve been more clinical in attack and more defensively solid than I’ve seen this whole year… confused!

Jack: Cole Palmer is setting the standard for the rest of our forwards. Demanding the ball in dangerous areas & taking responsibility to make the final pass. Class beyond his years!

A sign of a good winger is being able to dribble at the defenders on the inside or the outside. The Luton players thought Madueke was going to cut in on his favoured left foot but he made space to score with his right. Great play.

Arjun: Wow. Another great finish, this time from Madueke. This is what Callum Hudson-Odoi was supposed to be for us, man.

Ashley: Unbelievable finish from Madueke!! Even after watching the numerous replays I'm struggling to see how he got that one in.
