James: Why should Rooney be afforded the time that Eustace wasn't?

Jamie in London: I don’t think I will ever understand why Birmingham hired Rooney. A poor manager in my opinion and it showed at DC United. Unfortunately poor results have followed!

Anon: As someone who doesn't watch the EFL all that often it is an absolute joy to watch a thrilling free-flowing game with no VAR.

    Birmingham 1-2 Leicester

Leicester play it a little risky at the back as they try to play out of their own penalty area.

They almost have possession pinched, but before you can blink the Foxes are back on the counter-attack.

This time it takes a superbly timed sliding tackle from the back-tracking Dion Sanderson to deny Patson Daka a chance to shoot from just a few yards out.

A long throw from Birmingham City has Leicester scrambling in defence.

Anything that has resembled a Birmingham set-piece tonight has had the Foxes a little panicked at the back, it seems.

In the end, there is a foul and Leicester survive that one.

Leicester City have plenty of reasons to be confident at St Andrew’s tonight, considering their high-flying ways at the minute.

But the Blues have also provided happy hunting for the Foxes over the years, having lost just three of their past 21 meetings. They haven’t been beaten by Birmingham in their past five meetings, dating back to 2011.

They have a shift ahead of them to make sure they keep that fine record going.

Well what a start to a game this has been.

Leicester go from cannoning one against their own post to breaking upfield from the rebound and scoring just 10 seconds later. Astonishing the speed with which near disaster was turned into joy. Reminiscent of that famous Troy Deeney goal against the Foxes in the play-offs for Watford all those years ago.

And, as bad ideas go, Stephy Mavididi's brainless decision to then go and sit on the wall of the Tilton Road End and milk it is right up there with the daftest. His booking for ungentlemanly conduct was the very least he deserved.

What a great response then from Blues - and young Wales international Jordan James in particular.

But then Blues showed they had learned nothing from the speed of that first Foxes goal when they again got caught on the counter-attack for the second goal from Leicester, who again celebrated it with unnecessary emotion.

Barely had time to pause for breath here!!! The crowd is buzzing to say the least.

Juninho Bacuna tries to swivel away and turns into Ricardo Pereira and they break away so quickly, Leicester. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is quicker than I thought. They just can't catch him and it's another composed finish.

It makes you wonder if it's something they have worked on, playing on the break.

Blues have started well and can't let the goals affect them.

Birmingham are again caught on the counter-attack!

Birmingham lose the ball on the edge of Leicester's penalty area, and the hosts are just sliced open by an Abdul Fatawu pass that has Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in a foot race with two Blues defenders.

He has the pace and holds his nerve for a cool finish past John Ruddy for Leicester's second of the night.

An almost half-chance created by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for Leicester.

He gets into the box and stands up a cross that John Ruddy fails to hold.

In the end Birmingham's defence clear the danger.

A lot can be made of Birmingham’s stuttering form under Wayne Rooney, but they do have a home record to crow about this season.

Only Leeds have lost fewer games on home turn this term, with ZERO. Birmingham have lost only once at St Andrew’s.

And yet only one of those five home wins have been under Rooney.

Right now, they are working the league leaders hard.

Birmingham City have the goal their early endeavour deserves.

And again, it comes on the counter-attack.

First it's Siriki Dembele that finds a bit of space on the right edge of the box, and he plays it to the top of the area for Ivan Sunjic.

The ball is then threaded through for Jordan James to bag his third goal of the season. It's a clinical finish that finds the bottom corner.

Will in London: I think we can probably all agree that it's best if all the players from England's 'Golden generation' maybe gave up on football management... It's not gone great for Lampard, Gerrard or Rooney.

In Rooney's defence, Will, I think he's entitled to a tad more time to get things going at Birmingham...

What a finish that is. He's dinked it over John Ruddy as cool as you like. The counter attack was absolutely sublime.

Birmingham were in the game but that's a brilliant break from Leicester.

Simply incredible from Leicester, as they hit Birmingham City on the counter-attack.

From another dangerous set-piece, Birmingham City see an effort crash off the post.

The ball breaks kindly for the Foxes, and Stephy Mavididi is off in a flash and keeps his cool as he beats John Ruddy - as the goalkeeper came off his line to try to shut the ex-Arsenal and Juventus forward down.
