After today's thumping by Leeds, do you think Ipswich will go up to the Premier League?

They still have a seven-point buffer to the play-offs.

Thumbs up for yes, thumbs down for no.

  2. 'A tough afternoon' - McKennapublished at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

    FT: Leeds 4-0 Ipswich

Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna said the Tractor Boys did not defend well enough as they slipped six points behind leaders Leicester.

"It was a tough afternoon. the game didn't go how we wanted it to go, there's disappointment in that and for the fans who travelled," he told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"But that's football and it's a long season, you're going to have days that don't go your way, we know the strength of the opposition we're playing and all the moments in the first half went their way.

"I didn't think the disparity between the teams was that great in the first-half, I thought we started the game well, disappointed to have conceded on the first set-play to defend, I felt there was a stonewall foul on Conor Chaplin in the build up to that but we should have defended the corner better.

"It's always going to be a difficult game then, it was a stable game but they were clinical in their moments and we didn't defend well enough, but when you go in 3-0 down it'll be a difficult second half, all you can do is stick in the game and stick together and the players did that."

  3. 'We were outstanding' - Farkepublished at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2023

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke said his side were outstanding in their victory over high-flying Ipswich Town.

"It's not possible to have a perfect performance in football, but it was probably our most mature performance of the season, regarding that we played one of the top sides at this level, we were all over them and fully deserved our 4-0 win," he told BBC Radio Leeds.

"In the first-half they had two half-chances with shots from distance, but second half 'expected goals' was zero for them. I can't recall that in any game, it was incredible work from my players.

"In all phases, we were outstanding. In our possession, we had many good spells and we were controlling and dominating without the ball".

"After 80 minutes you are 4-0 up, and we still did not want to give any chance away. My most impressive topic and aspect of the game was the clean sheet."

Meanwhile, here's the bottom of the Championship table heading into the busy festive period.

Coventry are the big winners having beaten Sunderland and indeed they are the only side in the bottom half to win today.

Just out of shot in this graphic are Blackburn, whose late defeat by Watford saw them drop several places to 14th - remarkable when at one point they could have finished the day in seventh.

Rotherham remain bottom after their defeat at league leaders Leicester, however Sheffield Wednesday, QPR and Huddersfield all lost too.

Plymouth and Birmingham stick together after their draw. As do Stoke and Millwall after theirs.

This is how the top of the Championship will look on Christmas Day.

Leicester lead the way and have a six-point gap on second-placed Ipswich who themselves saw their deficit on third-place cut to seven points after their humbling defeat by Leeds.

Southampton keep up their good form to maintain fourth position while West Brom remain in the top six despite their defeat by Middlesbrough.

Norwich and Watford both won to keep up their top six chase while Cardiff move up to 10th thanks to their win at Sheffield Wednesday.

Michael Beale's first game in charge of Sunderland resulted in a disheartening defeat by Coventry as they lose ground in their play-off push.

You sense there’s a bit more love between the Norwich fans and David Wagner’s side after that result.

The players got close to the Barclay Stand and received a warmer welcome than of late.

Maybe it’s all due to Christmas spirit, maybe the recent results.

    Plymouth 3-3 Birmingham

A thriller at Home Park comes to an end.

Plymouth leave it late to come from behind and seal a point against Birmingham thanks to Morgan Whittaker's strike.

Jay Stansfield wound the home fans up as the ex-Exeter man bagged Birmingham's first goal but the hosts were reduced to 10 when Krystian Bielik was sent off.

The game was overshadowed by Birmingham's Lee Buchanan being stretchered off and taken to hospital early on, however.

    Sunderland 0-3 Coventry

Sunderland fans were not at all happy with Tony Mowbray's dismissal, and poor Michael Beale will be even less popular now after this result, but they actually had more of the better chances in the first hour before Coventry ran away with it and the Black Cats' nails fell off.

Two goals in three minutes sealed this and catapulted Coventry up towards wasteful Sunderland in the Championship's mid-table.

Only one defeat in seven for Cov, being their previous game at Ipswich, but they did lose their captain Ben Sheaf to a head injury in the first-half, hence the later finish.

Leicester, when they find a bit of a struggle in the first half - credit to Rotherham by the way - they come alive in the second.

They added new energy, vibrance, and skillset to try and find a way to beat a tough side. They did it again today.

Top v bottom finishes as you'd imagine it would.

That doesn't quite tell the full story though, as it took 60 minutes for the Foxes to break the deadlock.

However, two goals from Patson Daka and another from sub Cesare Casadei in 12 minutes wrapped this up.

Leicester are now six points clear at the top of the tree.

Despite substitute Shea Charles picking up two yellow cards inside 21 minutes and in less than 30 minutes of action, Taylor Harwood-Bellis' first half goal was enough.
