A big goal at the top of League Two, and it's Barrow who have taken the lead at home to leaders Stockport after just two minutes.

Ben Whitfield tucked home Kian Spence's volley to fire Barrow ahead. They started the day in second and could not have hoped for a better start.

    Southampton 0-0 Swansea

Saints might be 15 unbeaten but Jerry Yates has spurned a good early chance for the visitors at St Mary's.

He slid in at the far post unmarked but turned over the bar from pretty close range after a deep Swans free-kick was returned to the middle.

Mansfield rose to second in the League Two table thanks to a 2-0 victory over Grimsby Town, whilst Crawley beat Gillingham away from home by the same scoreline to put them above their counterparts in 10th.

In League One, Leyton Orient left it late to beat Charlton, with Omar Beckles providing the goal to give the O's a rare home victory.

The final whistle blows and Millwall have come out on top in this London derby.

Tom Bradshaw's first-half strike and a late second from Murray Wallace gives boss, Joe Edwards, his first win at The Den, and the Lions' their first victory at home since September.

It seems QPR's honeymoon period under Marti Cifuentes is over, with this their third loss on the bounce.

He's sporting a 'Ramsey 10' Bluebirds shirt, but Wales captain Aaron Ramsey is still not a part of the Cardiff squad for Plymouth's visit because of injury.

    Final Score

There is an expectation around many here at the County Ground today for the meeting between Swindon and Wrexham that we all may be in store for a Christmas goal-fest.

These two played out a 5-5 thriller back in August. With Swindon on terrible run of form and Wrexham high-scoring attackers, we may be in for another repeat of that clash at the Racecourse.

Also, with the top two at the start of the day in action against each other, it's a chance for Wrexham to close the gap at the top. Will they take it?

  10. Top-of-the-table meeting in League Twopublished at 14:57 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    #bbcefl

The stand-out game in League Two this afternoon sees the meeting of the top two from the start of the day, with Barrow hosting leaders Stockport.

The Bluebirds, who have slipped to third for now following Mansfield's win over Grimsby, have been soaring in the league since the end of October and have won seven straight games to climb the table. The only blemish in that run was a surprise FA Cup exit at the hands of National League South side Maidstone.

Stockport's red-hot form of the autumn has tailed off since mid-November - but they still head to Cumbria on the back of successive wins, including an 8-0 thrashing of bottom side Sutton United. Gulp!

Here's the full 15:00 GMT programme:

    • AFC Wimbledon v Sutton United
    • Barrow v Stockport County
    • Bradford City v Morecambe
    • Harrogate Town v Accrington Stanley
    • MK Dons v Colchester United
    • Newport County v Forest Green Rovers
    • Notts County v Doncaster Rovers
    • Salford City v Tranmere Rovers
    • Swindon Town v Wrexham
    • Walsall v Crewe Alexandra

    Peterborough v Reading (15:00 GMT)

    Adam Whitty
    Final Score

As the Posh face the Royals, I’m left wondering if we should we start calling this ‘The Luxury Derby’?

Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough side have been in high-class form of late, unbeaten in nine and galloping, procession like, into the automatic promotion spots in League One. It’s no wonder they’re unchanged for a seventh straight game.

Reading, meanwhile, have been slumming it in the relegation zone for most of the season. But three wins in five suggest they may have turned a corner? Some Reading fans heading east fancy a shock today.

Stevenage’s Twitter account this week suggested this was a derby.

"That’s cobblers", the Northampton fans retorted.

These two teams certainly know each other well, having tussled together for League Two promotion last season.

And both have surprised with their form so far. Both sets of fans will be happy with their league positions as we head into this one.

  13. Can Pompey consolidate lead in League One?published at 14:53 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

Top of League OneImage source, Rex Features

It's fair to say that Portsmouth have bounced back pretty well since they suffered their only league defeat of the season last month.

Pompey's 4-0 home defeat by Blackpool was one of the shock results of the season but they have followed that up with four wins and a draw, and only one goal conceded.

John Mousinho's side travel to mid-table Bristol Rovers this afternoon, while the chasing pack will be looking to take advantage of any slip-up.

    Here's today's 15:00 GMT programme:

    • Bristol Rovers v Portsmouth
    • Burton Albion v Blackpool
    • Cheltenham Town v Shrewsbury Town
    • Exeter City v Wycombe Wanderers
    • Fleetwood Town v Carlisle United

GOAL: Millwall 2-0 QPRpublished at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Murray Wallace (90+1 mins)

    Done and dusted.

Millwall have doubled their lead in second-half stoppage-time as Murray Wallace squeezes the ball over the line following George Honeyman's corner.

It wasn't the prettiest, but they all matter!

Coventry v Sheff Wed (15:00 GMT)

    Charlie Slater
    BBC Final Score at Hillsborough

It’s precisely a hundred years since Coventry and Sheffield Wednesday last met on Boxing Day and almost 30 years since Wednesday last won at Coventry - that was back in the days of Highfield Road.

I’m not sure too many Wednesday fans are expecting that run to end today but they, just like the Coventry supporters are more hopeful now than they were a month or so ago.

  16. Another fixture with 'recent' Boxing Day history..published at 14:48 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

Watford v Bristol City (15:00 GMT)

Watford are unbeaten in their past four league games against Bristol City since a 2-0 defeat in January 2013. They kept a clean sheet in all four of those games.

Bristol City’s last away league win at Watford came in February 2011 – they have won none of four league visits to Vicarage Road since then, only picking up two points in the process.

Bristol City haven’t scored the first goal in any of their last eight games against Watford in all competitions, last doing so in a 2-0 home win in January 2013. The last time they did so at Vicarage Road was on Boxing Day in 2008, with Nicky Maynard scoring after one minute.

Watford have won just four of their past 20 Boxing Day league matches and lost 2-0 against Millwall last year. Watford have made four changes of personnel to their 11 for this afternoon, but City just the one from their last match.

Bristol City have lost their last five away Boxing Day league games – their last away win on Boxing Day was at Vicarage Road against Watford back in 2008 under now-Torquay boss Gary Johnson.

  17. Not met in the league since Boxing Day 2009published at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Cardiff v Plymouth (15:00 GMT)

After that ridiculous six-goal thriller on saturday with that Jay Stansfield celebration, can Argyle take even a fraction of Saturday's excitement to south Wales today?

Amazingly this is the first league meeting between Cardiff City and Plymouth Argyle since a 1-0 win for Plymouth on Boxing Day 2009.

Paul Mariner was at the Argyle helm and a late Gary Sawyer strike gave the Pilgrims all three points that took them off the foot of the Championship table.

Thus Plymouth are looking for consecutive wins against them for the first time since September 1993.

Cardiff have won just two of their last 22 league games played on Boxing Day (D11 L9), both home wins in 2010 (2-0 vs Coventry) and 2012 (2-1 vs Crystal Palace).

Three changes for the Bluebirds today with Ryan Wintle, Rubin Colwill and Kion Etete coming into the starting XI.

  18. BIG CHANCEpublished at 14:45 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Millwall 1-0 QPR

A huge chance for QPR goes begging.

Elijah Dixon-Bonner looked set to level the scores up, but he fires wide as the ball falls to him at the back post.

Less than 10 minutes to go for the visitors to find an equaliser.

  19. Swans pay a visit to the Ghost of Christmas Past...published at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Southampton v Swansea (15:00 GMT)

They say Christmas is the perfect time for meeting up with familiar old faces but Swansea fans might not see it that way.

Russell Martin guided the Swans within three points of the Championship play-offs last season but left in the summer to take the helm at St Mary’s.

Southampton are sat fourth with an 11 point cushion in the play-off race, they are unbeaten in 15 dating back to September, have won six of their past seven at home and not conceded in the last three of those.

Swansea might have taken four points from their last two away games under caretaker Alan Sheehan but they have won on just one of their last 14 trips to Southampton, that coming in February 2015.

Time will tell whether the visitors be haunted by the Ghost of Christmas Past or will the Saints' march be halted at 15 games unbeaten?

  20. Postpublished at 14:43 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

West Brom v Norwich (15:00 GMT)

    Tom Gayle
BBC Final Score at The Hawthorns

Sandwiched between two West Brom journalists in the press room, they were split between whether the second half of Saturday’s defeat at Middlesbrough was either the worst 45 minutes of the season, or the poorest overall performance of Carlos Corberan’s 14-month reign.

Both agreed West Brom needed to get something from today ahead of the visit of Leeds here on Friday.

Six weeks ago there were serious doubts David Wagner would still be the Norwich manager come the end of November, never mind 2024.

A phone call of support from Delia Smith, followed by a run of five wins in eight games, including just one defeat, mean’s Norwich fans arriving at The Hawthorns today are more than optimistic of a big three points to breathe further life into their promotion push.
