Crawley, who have lost three out of their last four matches, have taken the lead away at Gillingham and it is former-Gills midfielder, Will Wright, who has come back to haunt his former side with a brilliant free-kick.

We are into the second half at Mansfield, and they remain two goals to the good against Grimsby, while Leyton Orient v Charlton remains goalless as they approach half-time.

    Oh, this is so foolish.

Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier is sent off for pushing Milutin Osmajic in the face after the Montenegrin had pushed him.

Osmajic is also booked for his involvement and so is Leeds defender Joe Rodon.

    How big could his be?

    Preston 0-0 Leeds

Three goalless draws between these two teams this season.

Leeds have drawn twice on their travels, while Preston are yet to have a stalemate at home.

Will saying that jinx it or mean that someone scores in the next few seconds?

    We'll see.

    Preston 0-0 Leeds

    Great challenge from Ben Whiteman!

Leeds work it nicely down their right and the ball is played back for Joel Piroe 15 yards out but Whiteman slides in and nicks it off his toe.

  5. Second halfpublished at 13:34 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    Preston 0-0 Leeds

    Back under way. No subs.

Preston are right in this against the high fliers but they'll be mindful that they were drawing 1-1 at half-time in their last home game with Watford and then got hammered 5-1.

Isaac: Leeds need a good talking to over half-time, Preston have been first to everything. This game is crucial in keeping the pressure on Ipswich, especially with tonight’s game.

  7. 'Not much to sing about'published at 13:29 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

    HT: Preston 0-0 Leeds

Aside from his bleach blonde locks, Liam Millar has been the stand-out player for North End. He’s playing with a confidence that belies where his side have fallen, since slipping from the play-off positions. Overall, Preston have been the better side, with a sustained period of pressure, despite Leeds beginning to dominate possession.

It’s a pretty packed Deepdale - the away end is chocca and the opposite stand behind the goal is packed with the PNE faithful. Neither have had too much to sing about but it’ll be the home fans who’ll be feeling the happier so far.

It has been rather quiet down at the Den...

Neither side has managed to get going as of yet.

Leeds have not got into their stride. Preston have made it difficult and have been better than I expected them to be.

Archie Gray has got his hands full with Liam Miller, but whoever plays there will have his hands full. Is it a day when you say at half-time it's time to give him a rest?

Mansfield go into the break 2-0 up against Grimsby after George Maris added a goal to his earlier assist just moments before the half-time whistle.

Also in League Two, Gillingham v Crawley is goalless with both sides struggling to fashion chances.

Goals seem to be at a premium today as Leyton Orient and Charlton have also not managed to find the back of the net in their League One clash.

Michael from Notts: Should be thinking of how to put this to bed. Preston should be no match for Leeds.

Anon: In response to Steve (12:51). How are Preston struggling? They’re mid table! They also had an amazing run in case it may have been forgotten.

Stuart Goodman: You say "Liam Millar looks most likely for Preston down their left. He picks up the ball in a decent shooting position but leathers it 20 yards over." What does "leathers it" mean in this context?

Stuart, I've used leathers it to as opposed to hammers it over the crossbar. He kicked it very hard but not particularly accurately is what I was trying to get at.

Not much pattern to the game. Leeds have got better technical players, but they can't get into it.

North End have been full of commitment and have just about edged it because of the number of corners they have had and a couple of shots from Liam Miller, but there's very little in the game.

    And that's half-time.

Third-placed Leeds have work to do if they're to close the gap on second-placed Ipswich to four points.

There's not been much in this at all and Preston have given as good as they've got.

Liam Millar has looked lively down their left and forced a decent save from Illan Meslier in the Leeds goal after cutting in.

Leeds have named the same XI for a third straight game and I wonder if boss Daniel Farke might look to go early with some subs.

That sort of sums up this match so far.

Duane Holmes scampers free down Preston's inside right.

He checks a few times before eventually teeing up Ali McCann on the edge of the area.

His shot is high, wide and not handsome.

Preston are looking a bit sharper as we head towards the break.

The home side are in poor form but a win today would lift them back to within one point of the play-off places, even if only temporarily.

The tempo is back up in this now after a bit of a scrappy period.

Alan Browne's corner is punched away from almost on the line by Leeds keeper Illan Meslier.

The Irishman then tries to catch Meslier out with a free-kick from near the byline but hits it into the sidenetting.

  20. Postpublished at 13:05 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2023

Liam Millar is causing problems for Leeds.

The winger shows great feet to send Archie Gray this way and then that before hitting a shot that Illan Meslier has to tip over.
