So, it is another defeat for Wales but there are plenty of positives that Gemma Grainger can take from the performance.

After back-to-back 5-1 defeats this performance was better at both ends of the pitch.

The switch to the back five seemed to help Wales, though they did ride their luck at times getting used to the new system.

Two errors in the first half led to two goals, but Wales will be particularly pleased with the way they improved after the break.

The big game comes in the next international break, as Wales host Iceland at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Thanks for joining us this evening.

Wales will really want to go after the Iceland game now we dominated possession away from home, we weren't clinical enough in the box but I'm backing Wales to get a result.

  3. Wales will 'focus on the positives' - Jonespublished at 19:24 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2023

    FT: Denmark 2-1 Wales

Wales forward Carrie Jones told MOTD Wales: "It's definitely an improvement from last time we played them.

"This is a higher ranked nation, we are disappointed with the performance but it's an improvement from last time.

"It's a bit different the role I've been asked to play, I need to take the positives out of my performance and look where I can improve, playing in the nine position against a back three when we set up quite differently it was quite difficult.

"From watching back the games we've got to be defensively solid. We've conceded 10 goals in the past two games, that's two more tonight but it is an improvement.

"Gemma Grainger is someone who likes to focus on the positives. We will look at areas we can improve but also focus on the positives to take into the next game."

Adapting to a new formation in such a short amount of time, you have to give credit to the players.

  7. 'I'm really proud of the girls' - Inglepublished at 19:14 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2023

    FT: Denmark 2-1 Wales

Wales captain Sophie Ingle on MOTD Wales: "It was a great second half, first half we were getting used to the shape.

"We played Denmark not long ago and they dominated the game but I don't think they did that tonight so I'm really proud of the girls.

"We were more positive in the second half, we kept going back in the first half which put pressure on ourselves. Second half we pressed higher and stole a few balls and that's where the goal came from.

"Scoring against top opposition is a huge thing for us, we don't score many goals against the big teams and that's a real positive for us, and we limited their chances in the second half.

"We have to limit the mistakes and conceding two goals against top opposition you're always going to be chasing the game."

Wales coach Gemma Grainger told MOTD Wales: "We finished the stronger team in the second half, we want to keep improving as a team and we know what our longer term goal is.

"With performances like that tonight we will get there. It's about reflecting on each game.

"We wanted to be better in the second game against every opposition in this group and we've just started to do that with Denmark.

"It shows our resilience, the difference in Denmark and us is a big gap but it is a gap we are determined to close and that will take time.

"At 2-0 at half-time this team could have come out and folded and conceded more goals, we haven't done that, the resilience is high.

"There's no question in our minds we are focused on what we want to do, and the Nations League is a step for us and its part of our process.

"We will reflect on this game and make sure everyone goes away and works to be ready for that game against Iceland in Cardiff."

The fact that we've played two away fixtures against the top seeded teams, this is an experience which will help us moving forward.

It was an improved performance from Wales, but they have once again fallen short against a top tier nation.

Wales have never won a competitive game against a team ranked in the top 20, a run which continues tonight.

There's still things Gemma Grainger will look to build upon but certain basics of the game we did a lot better, we dealt with the threat from wide areas a lot better.

We were able to win the ball back and start the attack higher up the pitch because we were pressing higher which gave us a chance to put the pressure on Denmark.

  16. FULL-TIME - Denmark 2-1 Walespublished at 18:53 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2023

The fight back falls short in Denmark.

After first half goals from Amalie Vangsgaard and Sofie Bredgaard it looked like it could be a long evening for Wales.

However Gemma Grainger's side - who rode their luck at times at the beginning of the second half - managed to pull one back through Jess Fishlock to set up a grandstand finish.

Unfortunately the class of the hosts shone through and they managed to run the clock down and see the game out despite the high Welsh press.

A far better performance from Wales, but it is a fifth straight defeat and they remain without a point in group A3 of the Women's Nations League.

    Reaction to follow.

The second half has been very sloppy from Denmark but I'm putting that down to Wales doing a far better job defensively, getting in their faces and putting pressure on them.
