To say it is cold in Viborg is an understatement.

I've got thermals, three further layers, a big coat, hat, snood, gloves and have a blanket (Tak to the Denmark FA) and I still already can't feel my fingers or toes.

I'm not moaning, I'm just giving you a flavour of the stadium.

Because imagine going to Stoke City and multiply the cold by a factor of three or four.

  3. Youth needed to bolster Wales' tournament aim - Ludlowpublished at 16:49 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2023

    Denmark v Wales (17:00 GMT)

Former Wales manager Jayne Ludlow believes changes to the Football Association of Wales' (FAW) youth system could help the women's national side qualify for a major tournament for the first time.

Three straight defeats has led to criticism of current boss Gemma Grainger, but Ludlow believes Wales' current form is not solely down to her.

"This isn't about a head coach, this is bigger," Ludlow told BBC Radio Wales.

"We are still very much a developing nation regarding women's football.

"I would like nothing more, as a Welsh person and a fan who loves the women's game, than to see changes in the youth system because we can get to those big tournaments.

"I'm definitely not going after Gemma. I think Gemma's a really good coach and a lovely person, there's a lot more to come from her."

  4. Grainger unfazed by criticismpublished at 16:47 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2023

    Denmark v Wales (17:00 GMT)

Manager Gemma Grainger says she is unfazed by criticism of her and her side ahead of tonight's game.

Tonight's opponents Denmark are 12th in the world rankings and yet another daunting task, especially with Wales yet to win a point in the campaign.

"People are entitled to their opinions," Grainger said.

"For me it comes down to realism and perspective.

"The gap between us and the first and second seeded nations is significant.

"We've earned the right to be in league A, we want to be here and take lessons from it, but we have to be realistic.

"If you look at the results against Denmark and Germany, rather than the performances, then I think that is where most of the opinions are coming from.

"I don't mind people having an opinion. But I think it should be on the performance, not the result."

After two defeats to start the campaign, Wales travelled to Germany last week looking to get back on track.

But despite going into half-time level, Wales crumbled in the closing stages as Germany eventually ran out 5-1 winners.

Giulia Gwinn, Sjoeke Nusken and Nicole Anyomi all scored in the final 10 minutes as a ruthless Germany matched Denmark's win over Gemma Grainger's side a month before.

  8. Injuries impact Wales selectionpublished at 16:36 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2023

    Denmark v Wales (17:00 GMT)

As mentioned, Gemma Grainger is without several key players.

Rachel Rowe pulled out before last week's Germany game, and now influential forwards Ceri Holland and Hannah Cain have had to pull out of the squad.

Holland played for 86 minutes in Hoffenheim and left the ground on crutches, with her club Liverpool saying she will undergo an MRI scan on a suspected calf injury.

Cain - who missed the start of the competition in September through injury - played 89 minutes despite appearing to jar her knee in the first half.

This fresh injury comes just nine months after recovering from a serious knee problem that kept her out of action for over a year.

  9. Denmark make two changespublished at 16:34 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2023

    Denmark v Wales (17:00 GMT)

Denmark boss Andrée Jeglertz makes two changes to the side that laboured to a 1-0 win in Iceland to keep Denmark at the top of the group.

The performance in Iceland hasn't been well received by the Denmark fans, though Denmark are without their star player, Pernille Harder, who scored a hat-trick in Cardiff.

Denmark's changes see Sanne Troelsgaard come into the midfield in place of Josefine Hasbo and Sofie Bredgaard replacing Nadia Nadim in attack.

Denmark: Christensen, Thorgersen, Obaze, Ballisager, Veje, Gejl, Kuhl, Troelsgaard, Svava, Bredgaard, Vangsgaard

Subs: Larsen, Ostergaard, Thrige, Holmgaard, Hasbo, Nadim, Olesen, Sorenson, Madsen, Gevitz, Faerge, Bruun

  10. Grainger makes three changespublished at 16:32 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October 2023

    Denmark v Wales (17:00 GMT)

Wales boss Gemma Grainger makes three changes to the side that was thrashed 5-1 in Germany and it seems likely we will also see a change of formation.

Injured forwards Ceri Holland and Hannah Cain are both unavailable and striker Kayleigh Green drops to the bench.

Grainger recalls Carrie Jones in attack, while Josie Green and Ffion Morgan are also selected.

The presence of Green means Wales could switch to five at the back or bolster their midfield, with Morgan and Jones providing some pace in the Wales attack.

Wales: Clark, Roberts, Ladd, Evans, J Green, Woodham, James, Ingle, Fishlock, F Morgan, Jones

Subs: O'Sullivan, Middleton-Patel, Williams, K Green, Longhurst, Powell, Hughes, Escourt, McAteer, E Morgan, Wynne, Filbey

Welcome to Viborg in north Denmark, where Gemma Grainger's Wales are in desperate need of three points this evening.

Back-to-back 5-1 defeats against Denmark and Germany followed a 1-0 loss to Iceland, leaving Wales on no points at the bottom of the Women's Nations League group A3.

Grainger says she is unfazed by the criticism faced after the winless start of the campaign, but a fourth straight defeat tonight will leave Wales staring relegation to the competition's second tier in the face.
