Motherwell are trying to get the ball forward early and exploit the pace and physicality of their front three. It has certainly given Kilmarnock something to think about in the opening 20 minutes.

Brad Lyons takes over as Kilmarnock captain in Vassell's absence.

Calum Butcher is back in amongst the action but now Kilmarnock have an injury concern. Kyle Vassell is hobbling around looking uncomfortable and he takes the captain's armband off, indicating he is coming off.

A stoppage at Rugby Park as Motherwell's Calum Butcher has a nosebleed attended to.

Mika Biereth's shot is charged down and looks to be trickling out for a Motherwell corner but Kilmarnock goalkeeper Will Dennis races off his line to keep the ball in play.

Killie go up the other end and Danny Armstrong's dangerous low ball fizzes across the face of the Well goal.

I'm often accused by Colin Moffat of using the 'Great Save' headline too liberally but goalkeeper Ross Laidlaw was excellent today, despite the scoreline.

There will be some reaction from Dingwall to come.

Going by the first few minutes, this is going to be a physically bruising encounter.

Clearly, Motherwell don't want to take risks. They've got three physical centre forwards.

He has to do better. It's a lovely drifted ball in from Dan Casey from right to left and he times it perfectly but when you get there, compose yourself, take a breath. You shouldn't get excitable when the ball goes in your area of the pitch.

That's a big let off for Kilmarnock and Motherwell will feel they possibly should've been a goal up.

Theo Bair gets up to meet a Dan Casey cross but cannot keep it down. It was a good chance for the big Motherwell striker after he outjumped Joe Wright.

Under way at Rugby Park with Kilmarnock in possession and games in the Championship and Leagues 1 and 2 are kicking off.

Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell tells Sportsound: "I wasn't happy at the end of the game [against Aberdeen]. My immediate task was to make sure everyone knows where we went wrong.

"We've had several guys sitting on the bench waiting for their opportunity. Certain guys have been performing for a long stretch. It's a case of coming to a different surface with a different challenge.

"Anyone that knows Calum Butcher knows his mentality. He understands the game. That's what I'm expecting from him today.

Both these sides are looking to bounce back after real disappointments in midweek.

Kilmarnock were stunned by conceding two goals in seven minutes and were unable to recover against bottom side St Johnstone. Derek McInnes has given the majority of his players the chance to make amends, making just a solitary change.

Motherwell were abject for the most part in their 4-2 home defeat by Aberdeen. Perhaps the only bright sparks were two players who came off the bench to score, Theo Bair and Mika Biereth, and both are rewarded with starts today.
