  1. 'Liverpool are fortunate to still be in the game'published at 13:25 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2023

    HT: Man City 1-0 Liverpool

    James McFadden
Former Scotland forward on BBC Radio 5 Live

They are almost trying to jump on Manuel Akanji but Bernardo Silva and Julian Alvarez are playing beyond the Liverpool press.

Liverpool haven't won the ball high up yet, but they are fortunate to be in the game still. They are a tough team to beat. They are resilient.

I think Darwin Nunez is just a bit over-eager to make that run. They are still in the game though.

Liverpool need to replace Nunez with Diaz at half time, he's done nothing and panics in possession.

City lead at the break and deservedly so, thanks to Erling Haaland.

Liverpool have had chances but their mistakes have proven costly so far.

  6. 'Liverpool are struggling to press'published at 13:16 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2023

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

    Izzy Christiansen
Former Everton and England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

That is a fantastic save [from Alisson] but it has come from Ederson. That was a fizzed pass and City are out. Liverpool don't have a clue how to press City today.

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

Ooh, a bit of a mess.

Dominik Szoboszlai's first-time pass into the box misses Darwin Nunez and won't reach Diogo Jota but Ederson decides to push it away and it's loose in the six-yard area.

Curtis Jones is closing down on it before it's hastily hooked clear.

Another City corner... Headed over the bar by Nathan Ake.

    Closing in on half-time now.

Guy: Controversial opinion but bar getting skinned by Ake, Trent Alexander-Arnold hasn't done that badly against Doku. Jones, meanwhile, looks a little off the pace.

ED: Why does Klopp keep starting Nunez? He misses too many chances, he is a player to bring on for the final ten minutes, never a starter.

Adam: Haaland is a goal scoring machine. Liverpool could do with a few of him right now.

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 44 mins

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

Darwin Nunez is on the ball here but Ruben Dias comes across to deal with it. Liverpool want a corner but don't get one.

A few moments later, Phil Foden forces a save from Alisson with a fizzing shot, low to the keeper's left. Decent stop!

  11. 'Nunez hasn't really been in the game'published at 13:13 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2023

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

    Izzy Christiansen
Former Everton and England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I am shaking my head because of the time it took to give the offside. Nunez hasn't really been in the game.

He is a threat. His presence is a threat and it took him a while to get his touch.

Dominik Szoboszlai's chip floats dangerously along the goalline but City then break. Jeremy Doku has options but he choses the wrong one, using Julian Alvarez, who can only clip a cross out for a goal kick.

  13. Postpublished at 41 mins

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

Mohamed Salah slips it through to Darwin Nunez but he's clearly offside. It takes a few moments but the flag eventually goes up.

  14. Frustration for Klopppublished at 13:09 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2023

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Etihad Stadium

Liverpool have mainly caused their own problems here. Alisson has been close to the edge several times with the ball at his feet and the defending was poor for Erling Haaland's goal even after his sliced clearance.

Manchester City have also been a little sloppy at the back and there is still an air of menace about this Liverpool team.

Bernardo Silva slides it through to Erling Haaland but Joel Matip is all over it. Liverpool move it out nicely and make progress down the right.

  16. Postpublished at 37 mins

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

Phil Foden moves it on to Julian Alvarez on the right but he gets his feet all muddled up and ends up kicking it out for a goal kick when City had players waiting eagerly in the box for the cross.

Bob: Liverpool fans say the claims that Trent can't defend are over-egged, but surely a good defender shouldn't be being beaten one-on-one by a natural centre-half?

Derek: Pep evolves his tactics and players but it’s clear Klopp is just changing players and keeping to the same (old) tactics.

  18. 'Doku has been brilliant'published at 13:05 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2023

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

When Doku comes inside, you need the midfielder to come across and help out but he has been absolutely brilliant so far, Doku.

  19. CLOSE!published at 36 mins

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

Good pressure from Diogo Jota and City lose possession deep in their own half.

Dominik Szoboszlai slips it through to Darwin Nunez but the angle is tight and he can only hit the side-netting.

  20. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

Curtis Jones plays a lovely ball over the top for Darwin Nunez. There's strong appeals for handball but Chris Kavanagh waves it on.

He is able to carry it into the box, opting not to shoot again and laying it off to Mohamed Salah. He can't get a shot off either but Liverpool win a corner.

Plenty of chances for Liverpool to shoot which they aren't taking!
