Mohamed Salah curls one into the box and Darwin Nunez flicks it on. There's not enough power on it and Ederson is able to claw it away.

A good save and City win a free-kick afterwards as Diogo Jota goes into the back of Kyle Walker.

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

    Statman Dave
    On BBC Radio 5 Live

With Akanji playing in the John Stones role in midfield, there is potentially a moment there for Liverpool to nick it there. He doesn't look massively comfortable there.

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

More mistakes from Liverpool as they give the ball away and Jeremy Doku is set off down the left.

The cross is headed away by Kostas Tsimikas and Trent Alexander-Arnold's clearance wins a throw-in inside City's half.

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

Julian Alvarez almost finds Erling Haaland with a pass in behind but there was just too much on it. Alisson comes out to mop up.

City are dominating things already at the Etihad.

  5. 'Alisson got away with that'published at 12:42 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2023

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

    Izzy Christiansen
Former Everton and England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Alisson got away with that one. He did a beautiful turn and just tried to fizz the ball out to Tsimikas. Foden should have done better, with his quality.

Andrew: Trent Alexander-Arnold might spend the majority of his afternoon backpedalling up against the very direct Jeremy Doku.

Ilyas: Doku is like a mix of Sadio Mane and Shaun Wright-Phillips. His potential is limitless.

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

Alisson plays a loose pass straight to Phil Foden on the edge of the box!

It's a big mistake but Foden doesn't capitalise, placing his shot straight at Alisson, with Virgil van Dijk putting him under pressure.

Ben: Looks like it’s going to be a LONG afternoon for that Liverpool back line if the first few mins are anything to go by.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is going to have a busy afternoon.

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

    Izzy Christiansen
Former Everton and England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I'm looking at Foden and if you ask him, he'd prefer to be in the middle. The way he receives the ball and is able to glide inside, it's such a threat. It's not exactly the full-back who stifles them, it's the person in the middle that deals with what they do when they come inside.

City have settled, starting to control some possession. Erling Haaland has made a few teasing runs and he's found with this one.

Trent Alexander-Arnold tries to force him out of play but Haaland backheels it to Jeremy Doku.

It's a dangerous attack but Liverpool deal with it.

Now that Liverpool have started to sort out their discipline problems from early in the season, they're a real force to be reckoned with. Title challenge going to go all the way this year!

    Gareth

Yes Liverpool are going to "go for it" today but get ripped apart in the process. I always think with City you do have to press and attack but with no holding midfield player and Trent at right back I think we've had it.
