Lauren James can do the spectacular. But when it doesn't come off, you can understand the frustration from Niamh Charles, who was free on the left, and Sarina Wiegman on the touchline.

Better from England. Lauren James drives the hosts forward on the break, but gets greedy and shoots off target with teammates ahead of her.

  3. Scotland equalise against Belgiumpublished at 20:09 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2023

    Better news for England.

Chelsea midfielder Erin Cuthbert has equalised for Scotland against Belgium.

With current results England could still finish second and avoid the relegation play-offs.

The England band has struck up a couple of tunes to try and get the atmosphere going again in Wembley after it fell silent when the Netherlands scored.

Alessia Russo has been out to warm-up. She may be needed sooner rather than later if the Lionesses can't find a breakthrough in this must-win match.

  5. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 23 mins

    England 0-1 Netherlands

Almost a second! The corner loops over to Jill Roord and the Manchester City midfielder tries to cross the ball back into the middle, mishits it, and sees her effort bounce off the top of the crossbar and away to safety.

Arsenal's Victoria Pelova has looked ace for the Netherlands tonight. She skips past Keira Walsh and fires a shot that deflects behind for a corner.

The Netherlands are having their best spell now. One shot is blocked and a follow-up flies over the bar.

Nervy moments for England. They can't afford to go 2-0 down.

I don’t know what was worse, the fact England weren’t given a corner or the defending at the other end. I’m in the stadium and the crowd are not liking this referee at all. They have a point…

For so long, Lucy Bronze was easily the best player in England's team. Since the Euros, there are starting to be signs that her place is under threat.

Defence again letting England down. Needs to be a change of personnel in Englands line-ups as the current team faltering at every opportunity.

By the way, there's no VAR tonight. Not that it would have made a call on corners/goal kicks.

The lack of replays arguably cost England against the Netherlands in September.

    It gets worse for England.

Belgium have taken the lead against Scotland through Marie Detruyer.

If results stay the same England will finish third in the group and have to play in the relegation play-offs.

    England 0-1 Netherlands

The Netherlands' goal came 50 seconds after Lauren Hemp's shot was brilliantly saved by Daphne van Domselaar, only for referee Tess Olofsson to give a goal kick instead of a corner.

    So frustrating for the hosts.

Mary Earps is screaming instructions at Lucy Bronze having had to clear another long ball straight down the middle.

She's gesturing to drop deeper and to get closer with Jess Carter when Alex Greenwood pushes up.

Almost two. The Netherlands again challenge England's high line with a ball over the top for Lineth Beerensteyn, but sweeper-keeper Mary Earps races off her line to boot the ball away before Beerensteyn can get a touch.

A goal very much against the run of play.

    England 0-1 Netherlands

    Karen Bardsley

It is a lovely weighted ball from Pelova, just allowed Beerensteyn to run onto it and finish.

It went through the legs of Carter who wasn't quick enough to change direction, and the Dutch forward had a free shot on goal.

It was hard to see if the ball just went through Earps there as she tried to get down to it. But a lovely low finish to put the away side ahead.

    England 0-1 Netherlands

It feels like a balloon has deflated inside Wembley. It's the same old story.

England are hit on the break and the defenders are beaten one-on-one. It's been a theme throughout the Women's Nations League.

So disappointing after Lauren Hemp had come close at the other end just before!

    England 0-1 Netherlands

    Emma Hayes

There will be disappointment by getting beaten by a single ball in behind the back line.

Lucy Bronze was asleep on the far side. She's got to tuck inside.

We have to give some credit to Pelova though, it is a fantastic pass.

It is completely against the run of play.

From the goal kick Victoria Pelova gets the ball down the right and plays in Lineth Beerensteyn who beats the offside trap.

And she manages to bruise her way off two defenders before firing the ball past Mary Earps in the England net.

England are not allowing the Dutch to grow into this game at all.

They're hurrying and harrying them in possession and are pressing so, so high.
