It has been a game with two teams just missing that 'X factor' at the moment.

We knew James Ward-Prowse would be a threat for West Ham if he could get some set pieces deliveries into the box, and he did cause some trouble for Brighton in that first half. Danny Welbeck did well to stop a free kick diverting into the net.

Brighton had a few chances too, Jack Hinshelwood was denied from close range by Alphonse Areola, Pascal Gross with the header too later on in the half, but we are scratching around a bit to find true moments of quality to talk about.

Ooh, Pervis Estupinan almost gifts it straight to Jarrod Bowen with a scuffed back pass but gets away with it.

But I'm not sure either manager will be happy.

Another lovely delivery by James Ward-Prowse from a free-kick. Emerson is free at the back and he volleys it across goal.

Konstantinos Mavropanos and Jarrod Bowen can't get a touch on it.

Emerson races back into position to block a Brighton counter-attack and manages to deflect Jack Hinshelwood's cross safely back to Alphonse Areola.

Pascal Gross has let Alphonse Areola off the hook there.

If he heads it anywhere else but at the goalkeeper it is a goal.

Areola did not know too much about it, but the ball was headed straight at him.

Huge chance for Brighton! Pascal Gross makes a run in behind the two centre-backs and James Milner sees it.

It's a free header but Gross flicks it on straight at Alphonse Areola, who reacts to block it from close range.

Best chance so far.

West Ham are really missing Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta so far tonight.

Both of them are the sort of player who has the ability to create something out of nothing and at the moment the creativity is lacking in this West Ham performance.

Ben Johnson's cross is blocked by James Milner. Pablo Fornals then tries to link-up with Edson Alvarez but they are not on the same wavelength.

Said Benrahma beats Pascal Gross for pace on the left then cuts inside.

He's got Adam Webster to beat but shifts the ball enough to create space to shoot and fires it just wide.

This could have gone anywhere!

The free-kick is headed back into the mixed by Danny Welbeck. Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola scrambles to claw it away but it falls for Jack Hinshelwood. He hits it first time but it's straight at Areola.
