It has been a game with two teams just missing that 'X factor' at the moment.

We knew James Ward-Prowse would be a threat for West Ham if he could get some set pieces deliveries into the box, and he did cause some trouble for Brighton in that first half. Danny Welbeck did well to stop a free kick diverting into the net.

Brighton had a few chances too, Jack Hinshelwood was denied from close range by Alphonse Areola, Pascal Gross with the header too later on in the half, but we are scratching around a bit to find true moments of quality to talk about.

Ooh, Pervis Estupinan almost gifts it straight to Jarrod Bowen with a scuffed back pass but gets away with it.

Any changes you want to see at the break? A gruelling schedule for both teams at the moment.

The likes of Danny Ings and Evan Ferguson are on the bench.

One of the game's few chances fell to Jack Hinshelwood.

There were also decent chances for James Ward-Prowse and Pascal Gross, before that free-kick in the final minute of the half.

But I'm not sure either manager will be happy.

Both David Moyes and Roberto de Zerbi were pulling their hair out for most of the opening 45 minutes!

Joe D: The atmosphere at the London Stadium tonight is like a morgue. Are the West Ham Supporters still hung over from New Year?

All square at the break. There's been some decent chances in the last 15 minutes or so after a slow start.

    West Ham 0-0 Brighton

Another lovely delivery by James Ward-Prowse from a free-kick. Emerson is free at the back and he volleys it across goal.

Konstantinos Mavropanos and Jarrod Bowen can't get a touch on it.

Just the one minute added at the end of the half, old school. I think the fans just want to go and have a drink and a pie.

    West Ham 0-0 Brighton

    Alan Smith
Former Arsenal forward on Sky Sports

Pascal Gross has let Alphonse Areola off the hook there.

If he heads it anywhere else but at the goalkeeper it is a goal.

Areola did not know too much about it, but the ball was headed straight at him.

  13. CLOSE!published at 43 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Brighton

Huge chance for Brighton! Pascal Gross makes a run in behind the two centre-backs and James Milner sees it.

It's a free header but Gross flicks it on straight at Alphonse Areola, who reacts to block it from close range.

    Best chance so far.

  14. 'West Ham missing Kudus and Paqueta'published at 20:11 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2024

    West Ham 0-0 Brighton

    Alan Smith
Former Arsenal forward on Sky Sports

West Ham are really missing Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta so far tonight.

Both of them are the sort of player who has the ability to create something out of nothing and at the moment the creativity is lacking in this West Ham performance.

  18. CLOSE!published at 35 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Brighton

It's West Ham's turn to break now.

Said Benrahma beats Pascal Gross for pace on the left then cuts inside.

He's got Adam Webster to beat but shifts the ball enough to create space to shoot and fires it just wide.

This is Brighton’s 8th game in under a month and West Ham’s 9th! Why are people so surprised it’s off to a slow start? These are teams without the resources of the top 6 and who have given every competition a real go this season! Cut them some slack.

  20. CLOSE!published at 33 mins

    West Ham 0-0 Brighton

    This could have gone anywhere!

The free-kick is headed back into the mixed by Danny Welbeck. Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola scrambles to claw it away but it falls for Jack Hinshelwood. He hits it first time but it's straight at Areola.
