Will Hughes has no choice but to smash the ball into the stands to prevent an Arsenal break after Jean-Philippe Mateta failed to hold the ball up.

Hughes immediately turns to his team-mate and gives him a telling off.

Kai Havertz goes down in the box claiming contact from Joachim Andersen but there was nothing in it at all.

Instead, Havertz is penalised for handball as he tried to catch it.

Gabriel and Chris Richards have a battle for the ball on the wing shortly afterwards and it goes in the Palace defender's favour.

First real spell of possession for Palace now but Arsenal are sat back comfortably.

Ben: I really understand the rules of football less and less. Why isn’t that a foul by Gabriel or are you now allowed to use a defender’s shoulders to hold on to while you head the ball?

Arsenal look up for it now. Ben White's cross is put behind for a corner after a backheel flick from Bukayo Saka had set him up.

The corner ends up bouncing off Palace's Jefferson Lerma and hits his own crossbar!

Palace will be disappointed with the marking from the set piece. It is a very poor goal to give away, the marking was so poor.

Great ball from Zinchenko behind the defender for Trossard in terms of winning the corner, and a great delivery from Rice for the goal.

An important first goal here for Arsenal.

A good header from Gabriel to give Arsenal the lead. Palace will be very disappointed to concede from a corner, especially with three centre backs in the area.

Lovely ball from Oleksandr Zinchenko, who sees space for Leandro Trossard to run into. He does and wins a corner from it.

My worry for Arsenal from day one is their lack of squad depth.

We talk about how important substitutions are and it feels like Mikel [Arteta] doesn't trust his bench as much as he does his first eleven, and that is now starting to catch up with them given the amount of games they are playing.

You look at Bukayo Saka and there is a difference in him, the amount of football he has played in his early years, you feel like he needs to take a foot off the gas a bit and give him a bit of a rest.

He is probably playing a bit too much football, but with Arsenal competing at the top they want their best players out there, but they need to not rely on him so much.

It's so far, so good for Tyrick Mitchell up against Bukayo Saka. He blocks his run and concedes a throw-in here.

Arsenal are still controlling possession though, and another move ends with Gabriel Jesus' strike flying miles over.

Oleksandr Zinchenko whips a cross in from the left. The clearance is skewed by Chris Richards and it falls straight to Martin Odegaard. He can't get a shot off though as Palace react quickly to close him down.
