Compared to the Aviva, Northern Ireland have really taken the game to the Republic of Ireland. There's a big difference in the style of play and we have looked more threatening going forward.

We have picked up more set pieces as well and had our own corners and our own chances.

Northern Ireland's most capped player on co-commentary

We frustrated the Republic of Ireland for long spells of the game and two minutes and we're two goals down.

It'll be disappointing for the team to go in 2-0 down at half-time.

I don't think she [Eileen Gleeson] will have many concerns because of what the score line is now. She'll just be looking to build on the momentum that she has.

Northern Ireland have frustrated the Republic of Ireland for long periods of the game, forcing them long so they haven't been able to get that ball out wide which they're used to with Payne and McCabe.

  6. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:52 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2023

Northern Ireland 0-2 Republic of Ireland

A ruthless two minute spell from the Republic of Ireland sees them go in ahead at the break at Windsor Park.

Lucy Quinn fired home a fine opener with Heather Payne then netting a well-worked second goal.

It was a sucker punch for Northern Ireland, who had frustrated the Republic for large spells before that devastating spell.

They look deflated after those goals went in, Tanya Oxtoby will have to rouse a response in the second period, especially as Hungary are beating Albania 4-0 at the break in the other game in this group.

An unbelievable strike [from Lucy Quinn] and I don't think Maddy Harvey-Clifford thought she was going to go that side of the goal.

The Republic have a quickfire second goal!

It was a fine move from Eileen Gleeson's side started and finished by Heather Payne.

She finds Lucy Quinn out left and she finds Payne at the far post, who volleys home.

A ruthless spell from the Republic sees them establish a commanding lead.

Commentator's curse as Lucy Quinn, just as she did in Dublin, opens the scoring for the Republic of Ireland!

Katie McCabe plays the ball into the recalled Quinn and she weaves her way past Sarah McFadden before firing past Maddy Harvey-Clifford.

The first moment of quality in the game sees the Republic go in front.

Kyra Carusa has four goals in five Women's Nations League games so far this campaign, but she has barely been involved in the first 35 minutes of the game, which reflects the Republic's struggles so far.

I think it's a real compliment for Northern Ireland how quickly the Republic of Ireland are looking to play.

They are struggling to break Northern Ireland down, they are in good shape and forcing them to go long.

A moment of worry for Republic of Ireland as Katie McCabe goes down after a challenge with Caragh Hamilton, clutching her back.

It's so important that Northern Ireland keep making those third man midfield runs.

With the Republic of Ireland playing three at the back those gaps will open up naturally and we need options going forward.

Another neat passage of play down the left hand side from Northern Ireland results in a corner.

The in-swinging delivery is met by Sarah McFadden, but it is a routine stop for Courtney Brosnan.

It's a big ask for a young goalkeeper to come in and play at this level but Maddy Harvey-Clifford has been assured so far with the number of crosses the Republic are putting in.

Katie McCabe is picked out with a raking pass over the top and the Arsenal midfielder takes a nice touch before driving down the left hand side.

Rebecca McKenna matches her stride for stride and manages to time her sliding challenge well to put the ball out for a corner.

A sign of McCabe's quality, but McKenna did well to marshal her.

Equally impressive was Maddy Harvey-Clifford's catch from the resulting corner, that will do her confidence the world of good after her earlier nervy moment.
