  1. I had to make the change early - Clement on Cantwellpublished at 08:41 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2023

    Rangers 1-1 Aris Limassol

    Rangers

Todd Cantwell had lost possession earlier in the move for Aris' opener and the former Norwich winger soon made way, with Rangers boss Philippe Clement bringing him off after just 36 minutes.

There were some boos from the Ibrox stands while Cantwell cut a disconsolate figure in the home dugout, but on came new Northern Ireland international Ross McCausland.

And the switch paid dividends just after the break as the 20-year-old received Danilo's pass before firing in an equaliser for his first goal for Rangers.

"I had to make the change early, which I don't like to do, because we were missing width on the right side," said Clement.

"We didn't have running players and we weren't high enough in position. I gave that message a few times to Todd, that he was coming into the ball all the time, and that was not the idea.

"It created an easy game for them, what they like," Clement added to TNT Sports.

"I wanted to have more width on the right side also and create more actions behind their defence. Ross did that in a good way and he scored a good goal like that, playing high up."

  2. I felt some nervousness in the team - Clementpublished at 08:31 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2023

    Rangers 1-1 Aris Limassol

    Rangers

Rangers manager Philippe Clement: "We all wanted to win. We started the game well, we had good pressing but missed the final pass.

"I felt some nervousness in the team, maybe because of the occasion, so that is something to work on for sure. After you concede an unnecessary goal, you make it more difficult for yourself."

  3. Rangers secure Conference League parachutepublished at 08:25 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2023

    Rangers 1-1 Aris Limassol

Ross McCausland's first Rangers goal secured continental football into 2024, but the Europa League draw with Aris Limassol means the Ibrox side may yet drop into the Conference League.

Shavy Babicka escaped a square defence to round Jack Butland and put Aris in front during a poor first half from the hosts.

First-half substitute McCausland struck the equaliser low off the post from the right just after the turnaround.

Victory would have sealed Europa League progress for the Ibrox side but leaders Real Betis, Rangers and Sparta Prague, who are third, remain in contention for the top two slots.

Rangers - who visit Betis in a tough final fixture - will finish no lower than third, which provides a Conference League parachute.

  4. Brighton fans’ European joy cut short by tear gaspublished at 08:15 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2023

    AEK Athens 0-1 Brighton

However, Brighton fans' joy at the final whistle was short lived as they were inadvertently affected by tear gas used towards the home supporters after the final whistle.

"The gas wafted through to the away end, and a few fans were left feeling distressed," said Sussex Police representative Darren Balkham.

"It's not a nice feeling, especially if you have respiratory problems. And if you've not had that before, it is quite scary."

  5. 'A result we will always remember'published at 08:06 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2023

    AEK Athens 0-1 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Manager Roberto de Zerbi hailed a "historic day" for Brighton as his side qualified for the next stage of the Europa League in the club's first European campaign.

"We showed a different mentality tonight, showcasing our soul and resilience," the Italian told Uefa.com.

"It was a historic day for Brighton, for the club and our fans. It is a massive evening for the club and everyone involved, the players and the fans, a result we will always remember."

  6. Seagulls secure progress from group stagepublished at 07:56 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2023

    AEK Athens 0-1 Brighton

Brighton beat AEK Athens to book their spot in the knockout phase of the Europa League.

The Seagulls, playing in Europe for the first time in their history, earned revenge for their 3-2 loss at home to AEK in the opening match of the group stage to ensure their adventure continues.

Joao Pedro, who scored two penalties in the reverse fixture on the south coast, was accurate again from the spot as he sent goalkeeper Cican Stankovic the wrong way for the only goal in Greece.

The win means Brighton will be playing in the next phase of the competition, although they need to beat Marseille in their final Group B fixture at Amex Stadium on 14 December to secure top spot and avoid featuring in the knockout play-offs.
