Just the one goal but a very entertaining affair between two of Spain's elite.

Barcelona, as they so often do when hosting Atletico Madrid, take the spoils with Joao Felix scoring against his parent club.

Tonight's win could prove crucial in getting defending champions Barcelona back in the title race and they've got another huge game next Sunday when second-placed Girona visit.

Momentum is starting to build after losing to Real Madrid in October with 10 points picked up from a possible 12.

Here's how the top four looks after tonight's result.

Barcelona move three points clear of Atletico Madrid and move within four points of top spot.

Diego Simeone's side do have a game in hand, though.

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo, speaking to Viaplay: "We had a lot of opportunities to score a second goal but they wouldn't go in. Credit to Inak [Pena] because he made a lot of great saves tonight.

"We trust in ourselves, results weren't coming but we have taken a huge step forward in the Champions League and in the league tonight."

On Joao Felix scoring: "He told us it was just another game but wanted to show what he could do and he's done that.

"It's important that he's happy and that's going to benefit us."

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak, speaking to Viaplay: "I don't know why we couldn't cause problems in the first half, we set out to win the game but I don't think any one of us was at our best in the first half.

"It's a shame because if we'd played like we did in the second half throughout the game then we would have won."

Joao Felix's first half strike proves enough to deliver all three points for hosts Barcelona.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen might struggle to get back into the Barcelona side at this rate when he recovers from injury.

Inaki Pena makes a crucial save to deny Atletico Madrid in the final minute of additional time.

Angel Correa strikes firmly across goal and Pena channels his inner Peter Schmeichel as he makes a starfish save.

Barcelona are keeping the ball in the corner.

It's eventually lost and Frenkie de Jong is penalised for stopping a counter-attack developing with Memphis Depay.

Memphis Depay makes a great run off the back of Andreas Christensen and squares but he can't find a teammate in the box.

It's just behind Samuel Lino. Will they get another opening?

This second half has flown by.

Fermin Lopez is thrown on for the final few minutes with Pedri taken off.

Joao Cancelo wins the ball and does so well to wriggle past a challenge but then he holds his arm out and catches a player in the face.

There wasn't a great deal of intent but he has his name taken and Atletico have the chance to whip in a free kick.

It just isn't Robert Lewandowski's night.

He carries the ball into the box, shows composure to drop a shoulder and lose the defender and then hooks it wide of the far post.

The Poland striker could have had a hat-trick tonight.

This is proving to be a tense and intriguing finish to the game.

There's a strong argument to made that Atletico deserve something after the way they've stepped up in the second half.

Football is rarely fair though.

Can Barcelona hang on?

Xavi gets a telling off and a yellow card as tensions start to build on the field after Atletico Madrid win another free kick on the edge of the box.

It's in an almost identical position as the one a couple of minutes ago but Antoine Griezmann pulls rank and hits it straight into the wall.

There is a brief VAR check for possible handball but the decision is no penalty.

Memphis Depay is so close to equalising from the free kick.

The Dutchman whips the ball over the wall and it's tipped on to the post by goalkeeper Inaki Pena.

What a save.

It's for a challenge on Samuel Lino right on the edge of the box. It looks a little harsh but the decision stands and Atletico have a free kick in a really good spot.

Ferran Torres is straight into the referee's book as he looks to put his stamp on the game.

A late challenge sees the yellow card waved in his direction.

16-year-old Lamine Yamal and former Manchester City forward Ferran Torres are the first two players to be called off the bench by Xavi.

Joao Felix leaves the field to a fine reception from the Barcleona fans, it's his goal that separates the two sides.

Jules Kounde really should do better as he is found with a ball over the top at the byline but he scuffs his cross and it's easily cleared.
