  3. 'We have to accept because they deserve it'published at 23:00 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January

    FT: Aston Villa 1-3 Newcastle

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Good evening. It is a little frustrating. I told the players I feel like tonight had to come one way. Today we have to accept because they deserve it. The first 60 minutes, they were better. We couldn't take chances to draw but we have to accept and remind the players everything we did here was perfect. We then have to correct what we did here.

"Newcastle's power is in the set pieces and they won at Fulham this way on Saturday. We conceded more corners than usual at home and that is the first way to concede a goal from a corner. We have to be demanding that we can improve. We have to react tactically. I am very proud of the players. We are more or less fifth in the table. Overall, we are happy and feeling comfortable."

On Leon Bailey: "He had a problem with his back and was not 100% at Chelsea. I decided to play with the starting XI we did in Chelsea. He played very good. I try to be consistent with every player and to give them confidence."

Newcastle United goalscorer Fabian Schar, speaking to TNT Sports: "It is a difficult place to come and I am very happy for the team. The three points is what matters.

"Today I was in the right position and a little bit lucky too. It was great to get the goals and the win so I am very happy.

"We know we have so much quality in our team but we have to ring it on the pitch. This gives us great confidence for the rest of this season. If we play like this, we can really look forward to the rest of this season."

    Jacob MurphyImage source, Getty Images

Newcastle United's Jacob Murphy, speaking to TNT Sports: "There was big talk in the dressing room beforehand about how much of a fortress [Villa Park] was and we had to imposes ourselves on the game. We did that with with two wonderstrikes from Fab [Schar]."

On the third goal being awarded as an Alex Moreno own-goal and not to him: "Ouch. 12 weeks out for that! I'm just glad to be in the area and I'm just glad we could get the goal."

On the rest of the season: "I think we have been a bit too inconsistent. We are now starting to get players back and once we have a full complement back, we can really kick on. This is the first step now to really kick on this season."

  7. 'We know what we are capable of'published at 22:59 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January

    FT: Aston Villa 1-3 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I am just happy to get the three points. This place is tough to come for any away team so our performance was brilliant. I am so proud of the team. I am happy with the goals but three points is what matters.

"I was somehow lucky to be in the right position and it is really nice to get my first goals of the season. Really pleased with the performance and the way we played. It gives us a lot of confidence for the rest of the season.

"We know what we are capable of but we haven't shown it enough. Today we know we were going to have to be at our best. This should give us a lot of confidence and hopefully we can build on these last two results."

  8. 'Eze felt his hamstring'published at 22:58 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January

FT: Crystal Palace 3-2 Sheffield United

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson on BBC Match of the Day: "I'm very pleased. I thought our first half performance attacking was outstanding. It was an exciting game, I thought Sheffield United certainly played their part.

"We've said all along that we think we have very good attacking potential. We don't think our defending is bad either. With Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze on the field, Jordan Ayew back and Jean-Philippe Mateta playing well, suddenly we're creating opportunities.

"Both Eze and Olise suffered very serious injuries that kept them out for a long period of time. For both, when they do come back to playing with the team, there's always a risk you will reactivate that injury. I'm hoping now we will keep those two fit and on the field.

"They're not lacking robustness, they're just two players who have had very serious injuries. With Michael Olise, we're happy he started the game. We were always going to take him off at a point.

"With Eberechi [Eze] he scored the goal and just before the goal he made a very strong run and felt his hamstring. It has not been assessed yet, but speaking to him he hasn't felt like he's pulled something"

  9. 'Hopefully we can sign Rogers and he will progress'published at 22:58 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January

    FT: Aston Villa 1-3 Newcastle

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery was asked by TNT Sports about Middlesbrough forward Morgan Rogers, who has been heavily linked with Villa throughout January:

"We analyse him and we follow him with a scout and as well when we played against Middlesbrough," said the Spaniard, when asked about whether Rogers was due to have a medical at the club.

"I think he is a potential young player and hopefully tomorrow we can sign him and he can start his new chapter here. We are motivated and excited to work with him and hopefully he can progress here like we think he will do."

  10. 'We have not lost our perspective, we are happy overall'published at 22:54 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January

    FT: Aston Villa 1-3 Newcastle

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery speaking to TNT Sports: "Good evening. First, congratulations to Newcastle and they played tonight being successful in their performances. First half we did not control the game like we wanted. Obviously at the beginning was because they were playing well and we had to assess. In the second half we got the goal and had chances then to be close to score the second goal but we have to assess the match. I spoke with the players and told them I am very proud of them after a lot of matches we are successful here. One loss has to come and it was today. We have not lost our perspective. The message is to keep going ahead and try and find comfort in the work that we are doing overall."

On conceding set-pieces: "It is not frustrating because we know that they won last week in two set-pieces at Fulham. They are strong. We were more or less not controlling the game like we wanted and they were threatening in behind, getting in our box and getting corners. After it they scored two goals. Again, we are frustrated, little bit disappointed, but in our perspective we are happy. We have 43 points. We are going to work and try to keep the distance that we have now and then focus on Saturday."

  13. 'We have to accept the loss and move on'published at 22:51 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January

    FT: Aston Villa 1-3 Newcastle

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey speaking to PLP after the loss against Newcastle: "I couldn't tell exactly why it was missing tonight. They are a brilliant team. They play good football and have a brilliant structure. They were on it from the first moment and made us work a lot. Scoring two goals early gave us a lot of pressure to come back from. They played better than us and they deserved to be two goals up. But in the second half, being Aston Villa, there were hopes of getting an early goal and they got it."

On conceding set-pieces: "That's a part of their style of play as well. They have big players and are very good set-pieces. We tried to work on our set-pieces but we didn't get it right today. We have to accept that and move on.

"I wouldn't say the level has dropped. This is football. You have City who win games back to back and Arsenal and teams like that and you have times where things don't go your way and the other team is better than you on the day. We just have to bounce back and focus on the games coming up to turn things round. We have to accept the loss and bounce back."

On his display from the bench and Ollie Watkins' 50th goal for Villa: "It's difficult, coming from 3-0 down. Coming from the bench is difficult, and I just wanted to give my best and try to push the team forward and get some momentum in the attacking third. I am happy for Ollie to get his 50th goal. He has been very important for us and hopefully he can score many, many more goals for Aston Villa."

  14. 'The support was good and non-stop'published at 22:50 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January

FT: Crystal Palace 3-2 Sheffield United

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson on Sky Sports: "The fans of this club are very good. They are people who support this club and they understand this situation at this club, they really do.

"Also, they have been satisfied with the way this club has played over the last few years and with the signings which this club has made as well to improve us and make us a better team.

"Their support was good and non-stop. Pretty much like it has always been really. Hopefully we put the black mark of last week behind us. I think people should be looking at the team now with a large degree of optimism. This team and group of players have the potential to lift Palace up the table.

"I certainly hope Olise and Eze are fit to face Brighton but they haven't been fully assessed yet. Eberechi Eze concerns me slightly more than Michael Olise. Both of them were pretty upbeat after the game."

  15. 'The gap is two £50m players'published at 22:48 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January

FT: Crystal Palace 3-2 Sheffield United

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder to BBC Match of the Day: "It just shows the ruthless nature of the Premier League. I wish Michael Olise could have made his comeback at the weekend instead of coming back tonight.

"We got off to a fabulous start. We talk about our competitiveness and attitude that we need to bridge the gap. That gap is two £50m players. Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise and you've also got Jefferson Lerma and Marc Guehi who is a centre-half for England and Joachim Andersen who is one of the best centre-backs in Europe. That's what you're up against.

"We tried to bridge the gap, second half we got close. But when they find that little bit of magic. The cross off Olise, the finish off Eze, or the other finish by Olise. They find that bit to get in front.

"We can't score two goals away from home and come away with nothing. Unfortunately we have done and that's the life and times of trying to be in the Premier League.

"There's no talk about league position or points difference. we're talking about performance. We just have to go again against Villa on Saturday. It's a great game for us. We can't take a step back. We believed we could get a result here. But we have to do things better defensively, and do better things when we have the opportunity to punish them."

On more signings this transfer window: "We'll see what happens. People are working their socks off to help us improve the group. Ben Brereton Diaz has been excellent. The goalkeeper is unfortunate. I'm not for referees chucking out cards but I have to say, regardless if it's an accident or not, he smashes into my goalkeeper and he has to go off and the cards stay in the ref's pocket."

  16. 'I thought we were the dominant team'published at 22:48 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January

    FT: Aston Villa 1-3 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was a big result for us today. We knew all eyes were on us today. We've been on a disappointing run in the Premier League, especially away from home. We knew this is the hardest place to come in the league due to Villa's form.

"I thought we were the dominant team and just hoping a goal dropped for us. The third was a fabulous cushion for us."

On Fabian Schar: "He is a goalscorer and a really good technical player. It's great to see him get two massive today."

On Alexander Isak: "It looks like a groin injury. We'll get a proper diagnoses but hopefully it's not too bad."

  17. 'Disappointed with the way we conceded'published at 22:47 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January

    FT: Nottingham Forest 1-2 Arsenal

    Nottingham Forest

More from Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live after the game: "We were more organised and we did not allow Arsenal to break or play the way they wanted [in the first half] but there was some possession missing and we should have tried to play a little more.

"In the second half we started better, we went attacking and having some good spells of possession causing problems.

"I am disappointed with the way we conceded both goals we should avoid them.

"The first from a throw in and then [the second] from an offensive corner that cost us the game.

"I am proud of the way we finished the game on top and tried to achieve the second goal."

On Taiwo Awoniyi's return: "We need him and Chris Wood both at the same time for us it is insurance to have two strikers."

  19. 'It was mixed emotions for me'published at 22:44 Greenwich Mean Time 30 January

    FT: Aston Villa 1-3 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to TNT Sports: "I thought it was a good goal for Jacob but obviously not. I think when you see how hard he's worked, he's played 70 minutes and a 90 minutes in a week. It's all down to the hard work he's put in."

On performance: "It was mixed emotions for me because that team is an elite team. The mixed part is that we haven't seen that for a number of weeks. We looked much like ourselves and we have players coming back."

On game plan: "Our game plan was to be aggressive and stop their rhythm. We did that well in the first half. They play a high line and we used that well. We had to adjust our plan when they got the goal but the players saw it out well. When you're coaching a team, you want them to play how you see the game. That has been there but it's been frustrating. Today I saw the team and the identity we're looking for."

On away fans: "When the team is not getting the results, it is easy for the supporters to change. They ahve never done that during this run we've been on. Hopefully we've made that worthwhile for them tonight."

On Schar goals: "Great to see him back on the scoresheet tonight because he's been a bit quiet. It's a great finish. It was a good defensive performance and it had to be."

On momentum: "We know every game is so tough in the Premier League and we will look to use this game to push on now. The only disappointment today is Alex." [Injury to Isak]

On Isak injury: "We don't really know. It looks like a slight groin injury. Hopefully we get him back sooner rather than later."

On transfer window: "I'd be more than happy for the window to shut with no incomings or outgoings."
