Crystal Palace's best opportunity of the game so far there.

Won the ball high up the pitch for one of the first times in the game, caught Everton out and a good strike on goal from Eze.

Matheus Franca tries to beat Vitaliy Mykolenko again but the Everton full-back shoves him off like a kid in a school playground.

Fair play to the young Brazilian for having the confidence to go at him though.

Eberechi Eze does well on the edge of the box, dancing past Amadou Onana to create space. He fizzes it towards goal and João Virgínia has to react to pull off a good save.

From the corner, Jefferson Lerma's header threatens to creep in under the bar but Virginia reaches it.

It doesn't quite fall for Arnaut Danjuma on the edge of the box but James Garner finds some space to his left.

He tries to bend it into the far corner but skews it and Dean Henderson watches it out comfortably.

We may as well have held a staring competition between Roy and Sean to settle this one. Give it a go!

    HT: Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

    Mark Schwarzer

It is one of those games where one goal could decide it.

Or it could also be a game where one goal sparks it into life and we get several more goals out of it.

Both sides have the ability and quality to score goals, but at the minute the game almost feels as though it is being played at three quarter speed.

Mateta for Palace looks a threat, he has rolled Tarkowski quite easily on a few occasions and just needs that bit more support up top. Danjuma for Everton has had a couple of chances and looked lively, and they need to get Calvert-Lewin more involved too.

A reminder that a draw does neither of these teams any good.

There will be replays if any third round matches end as a draw.

From the fifth round onwards, drawn matches will be decided by extra-time and penalties.

I think we're all hoping for that Mark.

I did West Ham 0-0 Brighton on Tuesday and surely nothing can be worse than that?

    Surely?

  14. 'Hopefully we'll see an improvement'published at 20:50 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2024

    HT: Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Fulham goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's not been a game of chances, a few half chances, but neither side has really shown their best.

Everton were the better of the two sides for the majority of the half, but Palace did grow stronger as the game went on.

Expecting better from both teams in the second half, hopefully we will see a vastly improved performance.

If ever there was a tie where I'd want both sides to lose, it's this. Can we declare a new rule that, if it's 0-0 after 90 minutes, both sides are eliminated to allow footballing sides a better chance?

  18. 'Vital challenge from Coleman'published at 20:45 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2024

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Fulham goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Seamus Coleman's last-ditch challenge was vital because Jean-Phillipe Mateta was through on goal.

Coleman's sliding challenge just diverted the ball through to Joao Virginia to claim and get rid of the danger for Everton.

I tell you what, Seamus Coleman has done his team a big favour here!

Jean-Philippe Mateta makes the run, banking on Jeffrey Schlupp getting a touch on a loose ball in the middle and it pays off.

He's almost through on goal but Coleman comes out from nowhere to make a crucial last-ditch tackle.
