This feels like Palace's best moment of the match.

Tyrick Mitchell finds Eberechi Eze on the edge of the box. He opts not to shoot, instead teeing up Jefferson Lerma, who fires it just over the bar. Not far away!

Jeffrey Schlupp does well down that left hand side, you think the ball is going to go out as it runs off the surface, but he digs out a chip to the back post.

It goes across the face of the goal and Mykolenko makes a vital clearance, just puts his foot through it.

  6. 'Richards has been excellent'published at 20:32 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2024

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Fulham goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Chris Richards has been excellent in this game so far, nothing seems to phase him.

In that defensive midfield holding role he is always available to take the ball and advance it, always an option for his defenders even if he has two or three players around him. Mops up very well in that area.

Eze is a fantastic player but he needs to cut out the diving. It overshadows all the good parts of his game.

This was always going to be a really slow, defensive, and dare I say boring game. How did this get chosen for TV over some potential upsets with lower league teams??

Arnaut Danjuma is enjoying himself. He beats two players on the left and wins a corner.

James Garner swings it in and it's flicked onto the near post! It might have been Palace's Matheus França who got the touch.

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton

    Mark Schwarzer
Former Fulham goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Franca is a little fortunate to win the free kick there. He loses control just as he cuts into the field towards the edge of the box.

Tarkowski is a split second late and takes him out, and I think that is what swung the decision.

Classy from Marc Guehi. He deals with Dominic Calvert-Lewin then sets Eberechi Eze on his way through the middle.

Brazilian Matheus França, 19, then has his first moment, driving in from the right and winning a free-kick in a very good position off James Tarkowski.

    Good play from the youngster.

Everton have looked the more comfortable and in control team of the two so far.

The Everton defence have swarmed Mateta when Palace have tried to get forward, so the home side need to get up and around him and give him options.

Danjuma should have taken the shot with his right there.

By the time he had waited for the ball to come onto his left the Palace players had the chance to close him down and narrow the angle. He gave them the chance to get back in.
