Carlos Corberan’s side avoiding a repeat of last year, where they were taken to a third round replay by National League opposition.

The Spanish head coach was able to hand four academy products their professional debuts, three teenagers, with 19-year-old Fenton Heard in particular catching the eye.

Shots' first effort on target came in the 74th minute.

It was just that kind of an afternoon where their FA Cup magic had simply run out.

There were 75 league places between the two teams, and it showed.

If Pep Guardiola dreams about football the night before a match then that pretty much went as he would have dreamt it.

His side got their FA Cup defence off to a winning start, scoring five goals, conceding none and also enjoying the return of Kevin de Bruyne to action.

Manchester City will need their best players back to fight for trophies on multiple fronts, so his 33 minute appearance - plus assist for Jeremy Doku's goal - was exactly what Guardiola and the City fans wanted to see.

It was not to be for Huddersfield but they gave it a good go and their fans applauded their side's efforts at the end. Their focus now returns to Championship survival.

It's a tie neither Arsenal or Liverpool wanted at this stage. Both will have wanted a couple of easy games in the first couple of rounds so they could progress and rotate the squad.

Unfortunately that's not how the draw happens and it's thrown up this fixture. Both managers will want to win and both will see this as a scalp regardless of what team they put out.
