    Sheffield Wed 0-0 Hull

Bright start for Wednesday, who are on the front foot and Barry Bannan plays a one-two with Bailey Cadamarteri but spears his finish a long way wide of the target.

One interested onlooker (from the 'other' side of Sheffield, so to speak) is ex-Blades striker Billy Sharp, watching his new Hull City team-mates in action.

  3. KICK-OFFpublished at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Sheffield Wed 0-0 Hull

Here we go then - a huge opportunity for both Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City to close in their respective targets.

Wednesday will be buoyed by defeats for QPR and Huddersfield, the two sides directly above them in the table, which means a win would take them to within three points of safety.

Hull, who get us under way, are also seeking three points to reclaim the top six spot that Sunderland dislodged them from earlier this afternoon.

Hopefully, this is the start of a run of winning games for Leeds.

    Stockport 0-1 Mansfield

    Sanny Rudravajhala
    Reporting for 5 Live Sport

We are going to have THIRTEEN minutes added on here at Edgeley Park.

Two draws in a row and now this fairly impotent display from Stockport County would point to a relatively small squad being stretched to their limits at the top oh League Two.

But they’ve still got time to get an equaliser against the side in second. Nobody has left early and the towering Cheadle End is full of home fans demanding a response.

    And breathe...

What a match. We said Home Park was the place to go in the Championship and this did not disappoint.

49 shots, 16 on target and six goals. That is the kind of match we all dream of watching!

    Leicester 4-1 Huddersfield

Another easy afternoon for the Championship leaders.

Four goals and three points to bring up win number 21. The gap to second is now 10 points and 13 to Southampton in third.

It's hard to imagine Leicester not playing Premier League football again in August.

  16. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:58 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    QPR 1-2 Cardiff

QPR start the new year in similar fashion to the way much of 2023 panned out for them, with a home defeat.

Substitute Sinclair Armstrong almost salvaged a point late on with a header that Jak Alnwick clawed over, but Rangers remain four points adrift of safety while Cardiff reignite their push for the play-offs.

Peterborough have surely won it in the 94th minute at Derby! Ricky-Jade Jones has put Posh 3-2 up against their fellow promotion hopefuls.

Bristol Rovers and Chris Martin have another (consolation?) at Wycombe- have they left it too late in their attempt to make it 3-3? 3-2 to Wycombe now.

  18. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:58 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

Southampton's unbeaten run is now up to 18 games, but they may consider that two points dropped after Josh Sargent equalised Adam Armstrong's opener.

The Saints gave up leads on the road at Huddersfield and Watford to draw, so imagine where they would be with those six extra points.
