    It's been an entertaining affair.

  3. 'Rutter playing with swagger'published at 15:46 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Leeds 1-0 Birmingham

    Aidy White
Former Leeds United full-back on BBC Radio Leeds

Georginio Rutter is playing with such a swagger and confidence.

It's hard for him not to showboat because that's him, that's how he plays, but there is a time and a place sometimes.

  4. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Norwich 0-0 Southampton

In-form Southampton come close to an opener as the ball is worked to the edge of the box.

Jack Stephens moves onto it and steers a shot beyond Angus Gunn that crashes off the underside of the bar.

  5. Postpublished at 15:44 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Middlesbrough 1-1 Coventry

Brad Collins stretches every sinew to tip one over from Middlesbrough's Sam Greenwood, who are keen to regather the lead in front of their home fans.

Searing effort from the Leeds loanee.

  6. goal

GOAL: Plymouth 3-2 Watfordpublished at 15:44 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Ryan Hardie (42 mins)

Of course there's a fifth goal before half-time!

Ryan Hardie restores Plymouth's lead as he hits one into the roof of the net after Morgan Whittaker had flicked it into his path.

Could Watford defender Wesley Hoedt have done better to close him down? As Barry Davies famously said once, 'Frankly, who cares?!'

Patrick Bamford celebrates scoringImage source, Rex Features

That was Patrick Bamford's first goal since April 2023, when he scored in a 4-1 Premier League defeat by Bournemouth.

Took it well for a man desperate to hit the back of the net.

  8. Albion look more likelypublished at 15:42 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Swansea 0-0 West Brom

    Gareth Vincent
BBC Sport Wales at the Swansea.com Stadium

Carlos Corberan looks a frustrated man on the touchline, as he furiously gesticulates at his players after a West Brom attack fizzles out.

Yet the Albion boss should be happier than Swansea's Alan Sheehan, for it is the visitors looking more likely as the first half wears on.

Swansea have had their share of possession but look short on attacking inspiration, and as a result the home crowd are starting to get agitated.

  9. goal

GOAL: Leicester 1-0 Huddersfieldpublished at 15:42 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Tom Cannon (40 mins)

A first Foxes goal for Tom Cannon!

Cannon by name, Cannon by nature. The ball drops to the striker on the edge of the box and he absolutely fires it past Lee Nicholls.

He will be happy with that one.

  10. Postpublished at 15:41 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Blackburn 1-1 Rotherham

Sammie Szmodics doing everything but get his name on the scoresheet for Blackburn, who have been stung by that Rotherham equaliser.

Szmodics was in, but found the big 'Viking', Viktor Johansson in his way.

    Still all square.

  11. League Two latestpublished at 15:41 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

Accrington have doubled their lead against Salford, Jack Nolan from the spot.

And Walsall have struck back at Grimsby; 1-1.

  12. Postpublished at 15:39 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    QPR 0-1 Cardiff

Cardiff have looked pretty comfortable since they opened the scoring, finding plenty of space inside the Rangers half.

Despite that, Asmir Begovic hasn't been seriously tested - but the bad news for QPR is that Bluebirds goalkeeper Jak Alnwick has had even less to do.

  13. goal

GOAL: Plymouth 2-2 Watfordpublished at 15:38 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Ismael Kone (38 mins)

    Lovely goal!!

Delightful stuff from Watford. Ismael Kone plays a sharp one-two with Giorgi Chakvetadze then curls home a beauty from 20 yards beyond Conor Hazard.

    Fantastic New Year's Day entertainment.

  14. 'No way John Ruddy was getting to that'published at 15:38 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Leeds 1-0 Birmingham

    Aidy White
Former Leeds United full-back on BBC Radio Leeds

Hopefully, that can give Patrick Bamford the boost of confidence to kickstart his season and get the fans behind him.

There was no way John Ruddy was getting to that. Bamford isn't just a player who can score he can contribute with his link-up.

  15. Postpublished at 15:38 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Plymouth 2-1 Watford

Wow, Plymouth and Watford's defences are having a bank holiday off at Home Park!

Ryan Andrews gets through for Watford, but he drags his shot inches wide of the far post from inside the box.

At the other end, Ryan Hardie breaks the Hornets' offside trap, only for Ben Hamer to deny him in a one-v-one.

    Chances aplenty in this one.

  16. goal

GOAL: Leeds 1-0 Birminghampublished at 15:36 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Patrick Bamford (34 mins)

Leeds have the advantage at Elland Road, and it's a classic bit of magic wing play.

Dan James does the donkey work, beating his man down the right and then arcing in the perfect cross.

Patrick Bamford finds some space at the back-post to steer his free header beyond John Ruddy and into the back of the net.

Fine goal. And a welcome one for Bamford, who's had his struggles in front of goal.

  17. Postpublished at 15:36 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Swansea 0-0 West Brom

West Brom are chasing their third consecutive victory today, but so far they haven't managed to unlock this Swansea defence.

Conor Townsend brought a save from Swans keeper Carl Rushworth, while Jayson Molumby has been off target with a header. Not a great deal for the home side so far, although Harry Darling's header gave the Baggies defence some cause for concern.

  18. League One latestpublished at 15:35 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

  19. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 15:35 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Norwich 0-0 Southampton

The visitors have been forced into an early change as Sam Edozie has come off.

Mind you, Ryan Fraser is not a bad player to be able to bring on.

  20. goal

GOAL: Middlesbrough 1-1 Coventrypublished at 15:35 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January

    Tatsuhiro Sakamoto (34 mins)

Coventry are level, just seconds after conceding.

It's Tatsuhiro Sakamoto who finds the back of the net through a crowd of defenders, after Middlesbrough denied the visitors from teasingly dangerous corner.

Great finish from the Japan schemer.
