Fleetwood make one change from their loss at Shrewsbury and the man coming in is a familiar face to Derby fans - Junior Quitirna is replaced by Jack Marriott, who scored in both the Championship play-off semi-final and final for the Rams in 2019.

The visitors give first league starts to goalkeeper Josh Vickers and striker Tyreece John-Jules, who both joined Derby in the summer, while Sonny Bradley starts at centre-back.

Harrogate Town have slipped a little after a strong second half of December that saw them pick up three wins on the bounce, including against League Two promotion chasers Notts County.

They have a loss and a draw from their past two games and Simon Weaver’s side will be tested against a resurgent Doncaster Rovers who despite a run of bad results toward the end of 2023 are undefeated in their past two league outings against opponents inside the division's top 10.

When these two sides met back in early August it was Harrogate who claimed all three points thanks to a second-half penalty.

A win would edge them closer to the top 10, whilst victory for the visitors could see them jump one place in the League Two table.

Kick-off in that one is about half an hour away.

Charlie Adam takes charge of Fleetwood in a home game for the first time today.

The former Liverpool, Stoke and Scotland midfielder became Town's third manager of the season when he succeeded Lee Johnson last week.

Adam, who began his reign with a loss at Shrewsbury on Monday, told BBC Radio Lancashire: "They [the fans] have been through it, it's been a tough season for them, I'm the third manager.

"But I won't shy away from it. This is my team now, this is on me, I'm stood there as the manager of the football club.

"What I will do is make them proud with hard work and intensity, what this football team and this town should be represented on the football pitch. Within that jersey, that's what these players should be doing every single week. If they give that, the supporters will be behind them, I know that."

Derby were poised to make the perfect start to 2024 when they led promotion rivals Peterborough 2-1 with seven minutes remaining on Monday.

However, Posh struck twice in the final stages at Pride Park to win 3-2 and end the Rams' eight-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

Manager Paul Warne told BBC Radio Derby; "There are things we could have done better but they played really well against us. You have to forget it but you have to learn from it as well.

"We go into the game at the weekend thinking if we win, with the FA Cup especially, we can take ourselves to third so there's not a lot wrong."

On the game against Fleetwood, Warne added: "They've changed their manager again, you expect a performance even if it's just through energy or will from the crowd, so it will possibly be difficult but every game in this league is difficult."

With second-placed Bolton in FA Cup action this weekend, today's match at Fleetwood represents a chance for Derby in fourth to close the gap to Wanderers to just two points.

At the bottom, a Fleetwood win will lift them off the foot of League One for a couple of hours at least, although Carlisle and Cheltenham - the two sides immediately above them in the table - are in action from 15:00 GMT.

The FA Cup may be taking centre stage on the first Saturday of 2024, but there is also plenty of action to keep you up to date with in the English Football League.

So if that's what you're after, you're in the right place.

There are 11 matches across League One and League Two today, including managerial bows for Karl Robinson at Salford City and Danny Cowley at Colchester, as well as third-tier leaders Portsmouth looking to further boost their promotion ambitions.

The early focus will be on Highbury as League One's bottom club Fleetwood, now managed by ex-Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam, aim to spring a surprise against promotion-chasing Derby County.
