  2. Pompey miss chance to extend leadpublished at 17:32 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January

    Top of League One

With Bolton and Peterborough in FA Cup action this weekend, Portsmouth had the opportunity to stretch their lead at the top of League One to five points - only to come unstuck at lowly Cheltenham.

Derby were the only other side in the top six to be in action today and moved closer to the top two with a 3-1 win at Fleetwood.

    Bottom of League One

Exeter are out of the relegation zone thanks to their win over Carlisle, who remain in the bottom four, while Cheltenham's win over Portsmouth boosts their survival hopes.

Fleetwood remain bottom after their home loss to Derby, and they are joined in the drop zone by Reading, who were not in action today.

    Top of League Two

Mansfield missed the chance to go top of League Two, the Stags losing at home to Crewe, so Stockport remain as the leaders of League Two.

Barrow's win over Tranmere keeps them within touching distance of Wrexham in the third automatic promotion spot.

  5. Forest Green off the bottompublished at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 6 January

    Bottom of League Two

A crazy game at the bottom of League Two between Salford and Forest Green ended 2-2, leaving Troy Deeney's Rovers six points from safety but no longer at the foot of the EFL.

Sutton, who were in FA Cup action today, slip to the bottom of the table as a result of that draw.

Colchester snatched a point at Swindon in their first game under Danny Cowley and are six points above the relegation zone.

    • Barrow continue their pursuit of promotion with a 1-0 win over Tranmere to stay just outside the automatic spots in fourth.
    • A thunderous end to their game at Bradford saw Crawley score three goals in the game’s final minutes and run out 4-2 winners.
    • Salford City stopped the rot and escaped with a point after Ryan Watson scored late from the penalty spot for a 2-2 draw against a spirited Forest Green side. A chaotic start to this game saw Salford’s new head coach Karl Robinson shown a red card inside 15 minutes.
    • Swindon were denied victory after an injury-time equaliser from Colchester’s Bradley Ihionvien, giving Danny Cowley a point from his first match in charge of the U's.

    Swindon 2-2 Colchester

Bradley Ihionvien's 94th-minute equaliser earns Colchester a point in Danny Cowley's first game in charge.

He'll be delighted considering his team were 2-0 down shortly before the break.

But Matt Jay scored in first-half injury time and Ihionvien's late goal means they take a vital point in their battle at the bottom of the table.

    Mansfield 0-1 Crewe

Mansfield boss Nigel CloughImage source, Rex Features

Crewe keeper Tom Booth has made a string of fine saves to preserve his side's lead and finishes the game with another, turning Baily Cargill's free-kick around the post.

Mansfield miss the chance to go top of the table - if they had won today they would have gone above Stockport to the League Two summit but they couldn't find a way past Booth.

A first home defeat of the season for Nigel Clough's men and what a time to lose that unbeaten record.
