Can Arsenal put a good ball into the box?

A scrappy start to the second half.

Neither side have forged a meaningful attack yet.

Arsenal get us under way again.

    Goals please.

  4. 'We deserved a point'published at 17:29 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

FT: Man Utd 2-1 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Carla Ward speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "It was a tale of two halves. We probably showed them a little bit too much respect in the first half. I thought we dominated the second half and were the better team.

"If we can continue to perform in the way we are we will continue to climb up the table. My girls were outstanding and deserve a huge amount of credit and we probably did deserve a point today.

"We’ve got to continue working hard. We have been excellent in the last couple of months but you can’t show too much respect like we did in the first half and that will be the bit that is annoying us."

  5. 'We are going to keep chasing and never give up'published at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

FT: Man Utd 2-1 Aston Villa

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Marc Skinner speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "First half we should have been out of sight. We’ve let Villa back in on a penalty. I felt first half we created enough quality chances to put the game to bed but I felt we managed it in the end."

On Nikita Parris' brace: "The reality is whenever Nikita is not a regular it’s only because of a tactical situation, it’s nothing to do with her. I think she is in fantastic form, she’s in real alive, alertness form in the box. You can talk about running and you can talk about form, but she’s almost pre-empting where the ball is going to be. The header is fantastic and the second one is reading the situation and showing her experience.. She’s a key player for us and she’s become a key player based on her performances. She will play more and is a real key member in our team."

On taking Parris off when she was on for hat-trick: "The reality is in that situation, we needed to get more high. Nikita was doing fantastically well but we needed higher pressure up the field because Villa were coming onto us. It was more tactical than anything to do with Nikita. She had a chance to get a hat-trick at the start of the second half. Nikita will keep scoring and Nikita will keep playing and she will keep getting in positions to score a hat-trick. I have no doubt one of those is coming."

On Parris' form with 13 goals in her last 14 appearances: "Nikita has got one of the football brains of the game. She’s had it for a long time. She’s seen many experiences, felt many experiences . Sometimes form is not just how fast and how hard you run. It’s how well you think. We are getting used to each other again. We’ve got new forwards, we’ve got new midfielders, we’ve got new players at the back. We are new with each other. It’s about knowing each other and we just haven’t had time to do that. It’s not an excuse but it's reality. More time together the better we understand each other and we are starting to click."

On the WSL title race: "All we’ll do is keep chasing with the energy of a Manchester United team. With the fans behind us. That’s a key message we are going to keep chasing and never give up and we’ll see where we are at the end of the season."

I think Matt Beard will be the happier of the two managers at the break.

Liverpool have shown commitment to the game plan, tenacity, aggression, good decision making, especially from Rachael Laws who has made the right choices in terms of when and when not to play out from the back.

Arsenal pride themselves on their technical excellence and quality and they just have not hit their usual standard yet.

  8. HALF-TIMEpublished at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

It got better in added time but we go in level at the break.

  9. Postpublished at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    It's come alive!

Caitlin Foord drills a low cross in the left and Gemma Bonner almost turns it into her own net with an outstretched leg.

Rachael Laws blocks it and then a defender is there to slice away.

  10. 'Really good play from Liverpool'published at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

Really good, attacking play from Liverpool.

What a ball it is into the box, Daniels does well to dart in front of McCabe to get to it first, but the finish isn't there.

    Better from the hosts!

Melissa Lawley powers forward down the left. She then slows it down and whips a cross into the box.

It's met by Yana Daniels, who gets in front of Katie McCabe, but her left-footed effort clears the bar.

  13. CLOSE!published at 17:14 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    Liverpool 0-0 Arsenal

A corner from the right by Beth Mead is met by Lotte Wubben-Moy.

The England defender does well to get a header away but it straight at Rachael Laws.

It's the best chance of the half though.

  14. Postpublished at 17:12 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    Liverpool 0-0 Arsenal

We're just discussing words for this game at the moment in the office.

Rubbish and turgid both come up.

Another poor touch from Beth Mead sees the ball run out for a goal kick. It's not great.

  15. 'Arsenal need to take advantage of set piece opportunities'published at 17:10 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    Liverpool 0-0 Arsenal

    Laura Bassett
Former England international on Sky Sports

Liverpool have done really well on crosses so far, getting the first and second contact. Making sure they win the ball ahead of the Arsenal forwards.

For Arsenal it is about taking advantage of those set pieces opportunities, which they are getting plenty of, but not providing much quality.

This game is crying out for a goal to open it up.

Arsenal are being patient but they are struggling to create chances.

A hopeful Lia Walti cross is met by Alessia Russo but she can't get anywhere near enough contact on the header.

  18. 'Mead and Fox partnership starting to develop'published at 17:03 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    Liverpool 0-0 Arsenal

    Laura Bassett
Former England international on Sky Sports

You can see the partnership between Beth Mead and Emily Fox starting to develop.

Of course it is not quite as fluid as Caitlin Foord and Katie McCabe down the left, who have played countless games together.

But Mead and Fox are starting to click and find their patterns, getting familiar with each other's movements on and off the ball.

  19. Postpublished at 17:02 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    Liverpool 0-0 Arsenal

An Arsenal corner falls to Vivianne Miedema but she slices her effort up in the air.

Beth Mead controls eventually and goes down under a challenge but Rebecca Welch waves away the half-hearted penalty appeals.

Alessia Russo then sees an effort blocked.

  20. Postpublished at 17:01 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January

    Liverpool 0-0 Arsenal

Liverpool were completely outplayed by Manchester City last week but this has been a much better performance so far.

Interestingly, Arsenal aren't pressing Liverpool as much as City did last week. Gareth Taylor's side got a lot of success from it too.
