    Champions League draw

Former England and Chelsea captain John Terry is drawing the balls today.

He has been talking about some of his experiences in the Champions League, helping Chelsea to win it in 2011-12 when they beat Barcelona in the semi-finals and Bayern Munich in the final.

Asked about his memories of the competition, Terry said: "Barcelona were the best team I ever faced, so playing against those players and testing yourself gave good memories and, of course, we went on to win.

"Two of the guys in that team were Messi and Ronaldinho, [Lionel] Messi was on my side of the pitch unfortunately.

"You look back at that at the end of your career. I didn't come out on top too often but being against those guys was a privilege."

Terry on who he likes the look of: "Real Madrid, for me. They have been fantastic for seven or eight years.

"[Jude] Bellingham has been great as an individual. Carlo [Ancelotti] is a great manager and they are likely to go a long way."

So, which British teams will be keeping close tabs on today's European draws?

A total of 11 clubs across England and Scotland took part in the group stages of the three tiers of European competition - Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League.

Just seven remain in Europe and only two - Manchester City and Arsenal - will find out their fate this afternoon.

Champions League holders Man City and Arsenal topped their respective groups but Newcastle, Manchester United and Celtic all finished bottom and have exited Europe entirely.

It was almost wholly positive for British sides in the Europa League and Europa Conference League, with five of six advancing as group winners.

Brighton, Liverpool, Rangers and West Ham topped their sections in the Europa League and that grants them a bye to the last 16, skipping the knockout play-off stage.

In the Europa Conference League, Aston Villa also go straight to the last 16 but Aberdeen, who finished third in Group G, are out.

Aston Villa, who have made it straight into the Conference League last 16, also provided plenty of talking points on Sunday following their explosive 2-1 win at Brentford. We will have more on that match after the Champions League draw.

Arsenal 2-0 Brighton: Seagulls did not deserve anything says Roberto de Zerbi

Brighton are facing a different challenge this season as they juggle domestic and European campaigns with a squad stretched by injury.

Three days after they clinched a place in the Europa League last 16, the Seagulls faced a tight turnaround for one of the toughest trips in the Premier League.

Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi said they had only one training session to prepare for the game, but refused to look for excuses after a performance where they offered little attacking threat.

Nevertheless, the game would have had a completely different complexion had Pascal Gross equalised.

The German perhaps should have slid in with his right leg instead of his left and the miss contributed to Brighton not scoring for the first time in 33 Premier League games.

"I'm disappointed for the result but not for the other things. We deserved to lose. Arsenal played much better than us, they deserved to win the game," said De Zerbi.

"We had the chance to score in the second half. Maybe it could have been different but we didn't deserve any points."

Arsenal performance 'a joy to watch' - Arteta

Arsenal eventually saw off a stubborn Brighton to move back to the top of the Premier League - where they remained after Liverpool were held to a goalless draw by Manchester United.

The Gunners, now a point clear at the summit, claimed their success thanks to Gabriel Jesus' header and Kai Havertz's late strike.

Mikel Arteta's side dominated the first half against Brighton without reward, but the tension eased when Jesus turned in after a corner.

The hosts were almost punished when Pascal Gross poked a golden chance wide before Havertz sealed victory to spark joyous celebrations among a relieved home contingent.

The Seagulls, who were looking for a third successive league victory at Emirates Stadium, managed just one shot on target and drop to ninth place.

"It was an incredible performance. It was a joy to watch from the start to the end," said Arsenal boss Arteta, whose jubilant celebrations indicated the magnitude of the win.

"The way we played against a phenomenal Brighton side was incredible. We were patient, kept going, kept believing and got what we deserved."

Everton fans are reported to have secured tickets to sit in the home sections at Turf Moor for Saturday's fixture against Burnley.

The Clarets, who fell to a 2-0 defeat and sit 19th in the standings, have "launched an immediate internal inquiry".

Burnley posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: "We are aware of the problems that arose as a result of away supporters being in some home sections at Turf Moor for the match against [us] on Saturday.

"[We] want to assure our fans their safety is our top priority and the situation that arose was unacceptable."

Virgil van Dijk only showed his frustration straight after the game when emotions were still running high. But he knows deep down we should’ve won and we didn’t take our chances. United set-up was expected and credit to them for executing it. Simply put: other teams' set-up is irrelevant in some respect, you've got to do your best to outplay them and score. VVD knows that, I’m sure, so let’s cut the drama and focus on the next fixture.

And finally, on Alexander Isak's injury, Eddie Howe said: "It is a groin problem. He had a scan last week and it's not a massive problem. It's probably more fatigue than anything.

"We need to treat him carefully to make sure he isn't out for six or seven weeks. He has a chance for tomorrow but we need to be careful."

Speaking about Saturday's 3-0 win over Fulham, Eddie Howe said: "It was important. You don't want to go too long without winning in any season, so it was important mentally after exiting Europe.

"It allows us to refocus. I can't praise the players enough for their ability to stay focused on short term objectives and not get too down with Europe exit."
