We are into the final 10 minutes of the first half.

Plymouth find themselves building an attack for what feels like the first time today.

And it all comes from Brendan Galloway getting a strong block in on a shot from Will Smallbone.

The ball then breaks up field for Ben Waine again, but Shea Charles stops the attack with what can only be called a smart foul.

From the free-kick, Plymouth spread the ball right but their raid forward is eventually crowded out by an organised Saints defence.

Jasper in Verwood: This is attack v defence. I'm hoping the latter don't sneak one if they get out of their half.

One of the weak spots of the season has been after corners when they (Southampton) get caught on the counter-attack.

The 30-minute mark brings with it a short corner for Southampton, that results in a rather flat cross from Will Smallbone that is easily defended by the visitors.

For just a moment it appeared that Plymouth could spring away on the counter, but Ben Waine handles the ball as he tries to control it.

Notch that up as a nearly moment for Plymouth.

Stats don't tend to lie, and they certainly aren't right now.

While it remains goalless, this game has been all Southampton's.

They have controlled 82% possession and had six attempts at goal. Just one of those, however, has been on target.

Plymouth have mustered just the one shot from what little they have seen of the ball.

Argyle will take a left-footed shot from Kyle Walker-Peters from the edge of the box all day.

The Saints have themselves marching in line to try to have a pop at breaking the deadlock, now.

A victory for Southampton this evening will up the pressure in the race for automatic promotion, but it will also be somewhat of an historic feat against Plymouth.

The initial corner is deep and well defended by Plymouth.

For the most part it has been Southampton, they have had the ball in the back of the net through Che Adams and a couple of other chances.

One or two dodgy moments at the back for Argyle, but they have tightened up a little the last few minutes.

Southampton with a corner now, and again it's Bali Mumba working over time.

This time he gets a sliding tackle in on Kyle Walker-Peters.

Bali Mumba is getting stuck in deep in Plymouth's defence.

He does well to try to spring a counter attack, but when the play comes rushing back his way his clumsy challenge earns him the night's first yellow card.

Carlos Alcarez now has Conor Hazard scrambling in Plymouth's goal.

After finding himself tangled with his own team-mate on the edge of the area, Argentine Alcaraz wraps his foot around a shot from the top of the box.

It's a wonderfully struck effort considering the messy build-up, but it flashes just wide.

Saints starting to exert themselves in the first of the Hampshire-Devon double tonight.

19:45 GMT sees Exeter host Portsmouth at St James Park.

We have so nearly been treated to a wonder goal from Adam Armstrong.

The 26-year-old is in the centre circle and has the vision and audacity to try beat Plymouth goalkeeper Conor Hazard with a lobbed effort.

In the end the shot drops onto the roof of the net.

That would have lifted the roof right off St Mary's if it went in, I can tell you that for free.

Che Adams has the ball in the back of the net for hosts Southampton.

He meets a lovely ball from Ryan Manning, but goes a touch too early and strays offside as he meets the pass before going on to beat Conor Hazard.

That was tight, but just about the right call.
