    ONE OF THEIR OWN!

Mateo Kovacic does well to turn a forward ball into something and he slots in Julian Alvarez down the the left of the penalty area.

He drills across goal and Phil Foden slides in to convert on the six-yard line.

That is surely game won for Manchester City?

He's got his head in his hands. He's in significant pain.

He grabbed the back of knee immediately as he broke free of the tackle.

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

Second card for Fluminense as Alexsander catches Rodri on the ankle.

There's quite a bit of concern for the Spaniard here.

Does his ankle get caught under the leg of Alexsander? Possibly.

    The physio is on.

Look where Man City are now with what they've won. They're on course to being crowned the best team in the world.

Can they win four in a row in the Premier League? Something that has never been done.

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

    Superb starting position from Ederson.

Fluminense get in behind Nathan Ake and there's a man free at the back post but Ederson reads the cross quickly and gathers.

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

Pep Guardiola lets out a scream of anger as Nathan Ake clips a pass over Jack Grealish's head and out of play.

It quickly turns into applause for the idea, though.

  9. Postpublished at 19:25 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2023

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

Ederson does well to gather the ball after it takes a whipped spin up in the air.

The Brazilian had to backpedal but made it look easily.

City were pretty unhappy with a tackle by John Kennedy in the build-up to that.

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

Kovacic is looking to become the first player to win the Club World Cup with three different clubs.

He won it twice while at Real Madrid and with Chelsea a couple of years ago.

    A raft of chances.

City bring on Mateo Kovacic for Rico Lewis.

Fluminense make a triple change. Marcelo, Felipe Melo and Gano make way for Alexsander, Diogo Barbosa and Lima.

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

Marcelo seems to have moved into midfield now. He's found in between the Man City defence and midfield but he's unable to control and Ederson gathers.

Rico Lewis is caught in possession and Phil Foden gives him the absolute riot act.

City are having to weather a period of Fluminense pressure.

That is just pure frustration from Marcelo there.

  15. YELLOW CARDpublished at 19:16 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2023

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

First card of the night as Marcelo needlessly kicks through the back of Rico Lewis.

A bit of frustration in that tackle I reckon.

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

Man City do tend to just leave one man back at centre back these days, with John Stones moving into midfield, and that looks like something Fluminense are going to try and target in this second half.

They try to find John Kennedy over the top again but Ederson is quickly out to head away for a throw.

  17. GREAT SAVE!published at 19:12 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2023

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

City will be starting to think 'how is this not over!?!'.

They caught Fluminense asleep and free Phil Foden in behind the defence from a free-kick after Jack Grealish is fouled again.

Foden sees a left-footed effort parried away and it is just behind the onrushing Ruben Dias and a couple of other City players.

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

Shouts for a Man City penalty. More from the crowd than on the pitch to be fair as Rico Lewis goes down under a Marcelo tackle.

City recycle the ball and earn a corner as Bernardo Silva looks to create a shooting opportunity.

As was the case in Tuesday's semi-final Jack Grealish is getting loads of space on the left wing.

He sends an outside-of-the-boot cross across the face of goal but nobody is there to meet it.

He might have been better slotting in Phil Foden.

Bernardo Silva is pretty unlucky there. He's done everything right, it is just one of those that either goes in or doesn't.

Ultimately it ends up being too close to Fabio to really cause too many issues.
