  1. GREAT SAVE!published at 19:07 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2023

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

    Great double save!

Jack Grealish lay-offs for Phil Foden and his first-time effort is parried into the path of Bernardo Silva.

He's having to stoop for the header and Fabio is able to get across and collect.

That could have been the game for City.

Man City's players are gathering in the tunnel again. There's a steely focus on their faces and some final words from Pep Guardiola.

They know they are only one half of football away from completing the set under the Spaniard.

By the way, if Fluminense do come back, we go to extra-time and then penalties.

  7. A new 32-team competition in 2025published at 18:55 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2023

    HT: Man City 2-0 Fluminense

This year's tournament will be the last Fifa Club World Cup in the current format.

Fifa plan to stage an expanded Club World Cup featuring 32 men's teams from June 2025 in the United States.

Manchester City and Chelsea's participation is already guaranteed because of them winning the Champions League in the last four-year cycle.

The format, and timing, has split opinion. But former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who is now Fifa's chief of global football development, says the expansion will help football.

The Football News Show has been looking at what it is, how players will feel about it and what fans think.

  9. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:49 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2023

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

So far so good for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola.

They are 45 minutes away from being world champions.

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

City seem happy with their two-goal advantage at the break.

They are happy to just take the sting out of the game - taking an age over a throw-in - and get in.

  11. INJURY TIMEpublished at 18:46 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2023

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

There will be a minimum of three minutes added on at the end of the first half.

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

Jack Grealish is down holding his face momentarily.

He's back up quickly enough and is able to shout some verbals at the Fluminense player he deemed the culprit of a stray arm.

    What a stop!

Ederson has had nothing to do and he makes a magnificent save.

  14. CLOSE!published at 18:43 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2023

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

    Almost a third for City!

Jack Grealish, who has got more dangerous as this half has progressed, cuts in from the left and curls towards the bottom corner.

Fabio is able to adjust his feet and tip behind for a corner, though.

City take that short and are forced to rebuild patiently.

  15. GREAT SAVE!published at 18:42 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2023

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

    Brilliant from Ederson.

Jhon Arias meets the corner and sends a strong header into the turf.

It is spinning away from Ederson but he's able to get across and palm away.

There's then an offside as a Fluminense player gathers the loose ball.

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

Fluminense win their first corner of the night as Nathan Ake blocks a cross.

Marcelo has jogged across to take it.

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

Think it is fair to say Jack Grealish isn't liked very much by the Fluminense players.

He wins another free-kick and one of them tells him to get up.

The offender Samuel Xavier stands with one leg either side of Grealish and stares down at him.

  18. Postpublished at 18:38 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2023

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

    Ambitious.

Nathan Ake wins a tackle for City on the half-way line but the ball falls for German Cano.

Faced with the prospect of beating Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias and a retreating Ake he has a pop from just inside the Blues' half.

    Not one to trouble Ederson.

  19. Postpublished at 18:36 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2023

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

    We're back under way.

City take a clever corner, finding Phil Foden on the edge of the area, but he scuffs his strike.

The referee blows up for offside in the middle too.

  20. Postpublished at 18:34 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2023

    Man City 2-0 Fluminense

Four Man City players have towels round their neck during the break.

    The four?

Kyle Walker, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Rico Lewis.

Ironically four of the five English players in the starting XI.
