Liverpool coach Pep Lijnders: "It's always good in life to accept what you have and don't look at what you don't have. That's brought us success in the past.

"Johan Cruyff said that 'every disadvantage has its advantage', and we get young players playing who haven't been playing [regularly] - it's a complement to our squad and our academy.

"For me, success is growing. We focus on developing this team, on bringing young players and making them better - and the older ones. Success is a logical result of that.

"Liverpool is a club made for major trophies. Each year we should fight for them and that's what we'll try to do. We'll go for it."

Liverpool would have known for a couple of days that they had no Salah or Nunez, the amount of debuts Klopp has given out, it won't phase him. It shows the belief and faith he has in these youngsters. A lot of the time, Jurgen has used substitutes. Today, he won't be afraid, but it's not as strong as it has been in recent years.

Nkunku to replace Jackson in the second half of extra time and score a blockbuster free-kick!

    James

Looking at that Liverpool side and that bench, Chelsea have to win this.

    Dave in Newquay

If that’s the best XI that Poch can field for a cup final, then we definitely have an injury crisis. Chilwell and Gusto can hopefully provide support on the wing to feed Jackson, whilst also stopping Liverpool’s counter!

EFL Cup: Liverpool are favourites for the League Cup final, says Chelsea boss Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino has asked Chelsea fans not to judge him on "winning titles" as the Blues target their first domestic trophy for six years.

Chelsea's last domestic silverware was the 2018 FA Cup, although they have since won four international honours.

Pochettino, who took charge at Stamford Bridge last summer, can win his first prize in England after previous spells at Southampton and Tottenham.

"For me, that is not the way to judge a coaching staff," said the Argentine.

"It's about being competitive and winning, but there are too many factors that influence.

"I think [victory on Sunday] is not going to increase my popularity or the way the fans are going to see us."

For Mauricio Pochettino, if he can win a trophy this year and get them into Europe, I think that's progress and success for them.

Obviously Chelsea fans want more, they want Champions League I get that and the league but I think for the start of his management, I think to get it right, win a trophy and get them on the board this season I think is a good start.

Chelsea are unchanged from the side that drew at Manchester City last weekend as Mauricio Pochettino makes no real surprise selections.

Chelsea XI: Petrovic, Chilwell, Colwill, Disasi, Gusto, Caicedo, Fernandez, Palmer, Gallagher, Sterling, Jackson.

Subs: Sanchez, Bettinelli, Chalobah, Gee, Gilchrist, Tauriainen, Madueke, Mudryk, Nkunku.

Liverpool make two changes from their 4-1 midweek win over Luton as Ibrahima Konate and Andrew Robertson replace Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah at the back.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson, Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones, Joel Matip, Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai all absent, it's again a very youthful bench for the Reds.

Liverpool XI: Kelleher, Robertson, Konate, Van Dijk, Bradley, Mac Allister, Endo, Gravenberch, Elliott, Gakpo, Diaz.

Subs: Adrian, Gomez, Tsimikas, Clark, McConnell, Koumas, Danns, Quansah, Nyoni.

I was at Anfield when Liverpool obliterated Chelsea it was so one-sided, Pochettino needs to get a foothold and it’s the World Cup final for him as Chelsea manager.

There has been murmuring of their performances this season, but imagine if they win it.

It will be massive for Pochettino the way they performed against Man City last week they could have arguably won the game.

Liverpool are still favourites. Against Luton in the first half they didn’t perform particular well, but they then got four goals and they cruised that second half.

They have got stronger and are building - could this be the fairytale for Klopp?

    Alan Shearer

I think it could be a really tight affair and go the full distance, maybe even penalties again.

We're hearing about a lot of injuries with Liverpool so I suppose from a Chelsea point of view, if that is the case with the injuries they have, it might be a good time to play Liverpool.

Having said that, they have still got some good players to come in and fill in.
