Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi, speaking to MOTD: "We played very well, we played with pride. We suffered a lot after the Luton game and we showed our quality, our human qualities.

"I knew before the game after Luton it would be like today. I know my players, I know their human qualities. I am proud when we win or lose because I believe in them, I respect them as people first of all and as players.

"In the second half we tried to keep the ball. You have to understand when is the time to keep the ball and when is the time to attack the space.

"My players are playing very well in my time here. We are fighting, we are seventh in the table. The fans can be proud and happy. I think we are fighting more than our possibility because we are playing with a lot of injuries."

  6. 'I want to make up for lost time now'published at 18:03 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February

    FT: Newcastle 4-4 Luton

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United winger Harvey Barnes speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was a mad game. Watching on for the first 60 minutes I was trying to figure out how I could impact it when I came on. But it was so unpredictable. We are disappointed that we didn't win. When we were ahead you want to extend that lead and keep the lead."

How were you feeling about coming on? "Excited really. I have been out for a long time and it has been a tough period for me. I have got a bit of making up to do. Making up for lost time. I just wanted to come on and make an impact ad I didn't but it wasn't enough to win the game. But it is great being back out there.

"There will be a little bit of rust for a little bit but that goal will give me the world of confidence going forward and hopefully I can build on that and the team can build on that. There are still a lot of positives to take."

On Newcastle's form: "I think we are getting there. We are starting to get back to our best. There are definitely improvements and the week-to-week games will give us a chance to work on that on the training pitch. We are going to have more coming back fit and there is a really good chance for us to have a string finish to the season. "We want to be pushing as much bas we can towards those top spots. We know we are capable of having a good run so we will keep pushing."

Aston Villa have been outstanding without being at their best. They have controlled this football match since the kick-off. They have controlled the pace of the game, scored four and could have scored more. Newcastle came here and scored eight. It looks like it is going to go down that road.

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson, speaking to Sky Sports about sending on Michael Olise: "He took part in training yesterday. We were told it is not a good idea to start him but he is okay for the bench and you can use him from the bench and that is what we did.

"There is no point me standing here and talking about hindsight. We don't have hindsight. If someone had said 'if you put him on he would only last five minutes and get injured' I wouldn't have done so.

"We put him on because we thought he was able to play and we had been given the green light he could play in the second half. We wanted to get one of our good players on the field."

On banners protesting against club's board: "I think Steve Parish has done a fantastic job for the club. People's memories should be jogged. The club was in awful state before he came. They turned them around and got us into the Premier League. The club is still there and fighting to stay there.

"It is not for me to talk about the club structure and ownership. If you ask me personally as someone working for Steve Parish and the club I think it is very harsh that people are putting banners in that way and trying to blame him for the fact we lost to Brighton."

On some players confronting some Palace fans, who were calling for more heart and desire: "One thing you cannot criticise this club for his heart and desire. At 3-0 down to a top team playing extremely well, the one thing we did not lack in the second half was heart and desire. If you aim criticism at the team, management, the coaching staff etc it should be based on what has gone on on the field of play. It is too simplistic to suggest every time you lose a game it is because there is not enough heart and desire."

Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes speaking to Premier League Productions: "It was a bit of a mad game. Watching on for the first 60 minutes, it was so chaotic. I think the scoreline told the story really. We would have liked more control but we showed character to come back. It was a crazy game.

"You see the way they want to press and go man-for-man and that is why it becomes such an open game. We went ahead and then lost the lead of course. We would prefer to win and win a bit easier than that."

On scoring the equaliser: "It has been a long period. It has been my toughest period in football. When you come to a new club the last thing you want is another injury. It's so tough and a couple of set-backs. But you know I have been working from this moment to get back and dreaming of coming on and scoring. It wasn't the winner, but we showed good character to come back."

Did you think you had got the winner late on? "Yeah, I did. We had a couple of chances at the end and we were pushing. I think if any team was going to win it would have been us."

On the game and Newcastle's form: "It is one that we are better off watching back and dissecting properly next week. I think the lads know that it is a game that was crazy but one we probably should win.

"We have had a tough period but in the last couple of games you can see that we are getting back to form. It is a exciting period of the season."

Leon Bailey had a lot of work to do. We all know he loves to come inside on that left foot, he's composed and just bends it, giving the goalkeeper absolutely no chance. He doesn't blast it, he just places it.
