Wasn't too far from Julian Alvarez and it is a good play from City, as you expect when a play involves Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne.

  2. 'Pretty close to perfect'published at 17:34 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    FT: Tottenham 1-2 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves manager Gary O'Neil speaking to BBC Match of the Day after the win over Tottenham: "Pretty close [to perfect]. Disappointing lapse for the goal, similar to the one we conceded in the last minute against Manchester United but that is probably the only negative I can find. We were close to perfect. I am proud of the group. It is a tough place to come and I think we deserved to win the game.

"The way we got the goal wasn't how we looked like getting it. We were more than that [just counter-attacking] and when we had the ball we caused them loads of problems and kept missing chances. I was a little bit frustrated that we weren't more clinical and we kept going and kept threatening. João was really calm and got a good connection on the ball and got us the win.

"It was really important for us to go 1-0 up and then the second one was fantastic. We worked on Pedro getting in behind on the right and then a really good pass for Joao."

This time last year, Arsenal were falling off the title race and this season they are getting stronger at the most important moment. What a strong mentality from Mikel Arteta and his boys.

  6. 'City are just too good'published at 17:32 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

Man City v Chelsea (17:30 GMT)

    Chris Sutton header

Cole Palmer is back at Etihad Stadium with Chelsea but it might be asking too much for him to have the same impact against his old club as when they drew 4-4 with Manchester City at Stamford Bridge and he stuck away an injury-time penalty.

I think Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola made a mistake letting Palmer leave, but this game is only going to end one way - a Chelsea defeat.

City are just too good. They have got so many good players, and more to come off the bench. Jack Grealish's injury against FC Copenhagen was a blow but they had Jeremy Doku to come on, who is a nightmare to play against.

Chelsea gave it a real go in that draw in November, but the defending champions have gone up a notch or two since then, while Mauricio Pochettino's side keep going up and down.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-0

  7. 'It will be difficult for Chelsea at City'published at 17:31 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

Man City v Chelsea (17:30 GMT)

    Fara Williams
Former England midfielder on Football Focus

The inconsistency as a fan it is really frustrating. It is a big, big squad for Pochettino to manage and it can be difficult.

To come back [against Crystal Palace], I think they showed they do have those qualities to come back but I think it will be difficult for them to go to Manchester City and try and get anything from the game.

  8. 'We did more than just counter-attack today'published at 17:31 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    FT: Tottenham 1-2 Wolves

    Wolves

More from Wolves manager Gary O'Neil, who spoke to Sky and Premier League worldwide after the win over Tottenham: "I don't think we were just counter-attacking. We had some chances on the counter. We will always have a counter threat with our players but I think we were more of a threat. We knew what Tottenham would do and they knew what we would do. I think it was a brilliant game of football. Having lost Matheus Cunha, for the boys to rally is really good."

On whether Cunha is ruled out for the season: "We will see Matheus Cunha again this season. He is feeling good and a little bit of muscle damage. He has started working already in the gym and we are looking to see him for us as soon as possible. To be tested without him is great for the lads to come and do it."

On becoming the first manager to win with two different sides at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (after doing so with Bournemouth last season): "Just winning with this group is all I am interested in this year. Being in charge of this group, coming away in front of the fans and giving them a good win is always great. A good day at the office."

  9. 'We controlled the game really well'published at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

FT: Nott'm Forest 2-0 West Ham

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to Premier League Productions: "I think we played a very good game. Defensively we were very aggressive, really close to the West Ham players. We played good, we created chances, we scored, I think we controlled the game really well.

On whether the result should have been more comfortable: "I think the team were well-organised, we felt we were in control of the game. Having one man more made the difference, but we controlled even though the West Ham set pieces are so dangerous. Congratulations to the players and the fans, especially to the amazing fans at the City Ground."

On the importance of getting a clean sheet: "It's the improvement we expect from these players. We have to be strong in defence, everything comes from there."

On the Neco Williams penalty appeal: "I saw the image, it was so clear. Everybody is not understanding what's going on with VAR. If we see it then why didn't it give help to the referee."

On whether he would have liked the referee to go to the monitor and see it: "Yeah, probably. For sure he would change his mind after seeing the image, it was so clear, it was so obvious. They should ask themselves 'why'. If they see the same thing me and you saw, I think it was very obvious. Let's be supportive but have better decisions."

On Forest's disallowed goal: "I didn't see it, I can't give an opinion."

  10. 'The players always want more'published at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    FT: Burnley 0-5 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, speaking to Match of the Day, after his side moved back within two points of leaders Liverpool: "We are really pleased because it is a difficult place to come and Burnley have been very competitive in the big games they have played so far this season.

"Today we managed to break them down early in the game and made it look a little more comfortable but they are a team which digs in so much."

On his side's winning start to 2024: "Individually and collectively, the purpose they are playing with, the form the players are in, even at 3-0 4-0 they want more.

"The way they track back at 96 minutes tells you how they are feeling. It's about maintaining momentum now.

"We are generating competition within the squad. They are a joy to work with, the way they train every day and apply themselves, and how they want to improve.

"They want more - that's the good thing."

On Arsenal's title ambitions: "At the moment all we can do is win our games and after our big two wins away from home we have a tough one in the Champions League at Porto.

"I hope we can do it [win the title] because we are there but it is about consistency and you see the standards of the other teams. We want it, that's for sure."

  11. 'Massive reaction to come here and win today'published at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    FT: Fulham 1-2 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa goalscorer Ollie Watkins on BBC Match of the Day: "I thought we were going to score three or four. That wasn't the case. Fulham responded really well and put us under pressure. It could have been a 2-2 game at the end there.

"It's a massive three points, especially after a home defeat to Manchester United.

"It was nice to get on the score sheet early doors. You always have your wits about you and I just aimed hard and low and saw what happens.

"It's nice to get back on the scoresheet after a defeat to Manchester United with a few missed opportunities. Personally I'm not dwelling on that and as a team we're not. Massive reaction to come here and win today.

"We've had such an unbelievable home run, 17 games unbeaten. So when you do lose it comes as a shock and people are going to talk about that.

"We've had a lot of injuries. Three ACL injuries in one season is unheard of. So I think we're doing really well with the squad we've got."

I don't think it matters who wins the league and who saves a team from relegation, Gary O'Neil has done an unbelievable job yet again this season, surely has to be manager of the year.

  13. 'The goals were not acceptable'published at 17:26 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    FT: Burnley 0-5 Arsenal

    Burnley

Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill on a one-sided defeat which leaves the 19th-placed Clarets seven points from safety: "Overall it wasn't good enough at all. We can work as hard as we want but the quality wasn't there. Some of the goals weren't acceptable. We've shown we can compete against some of the top teams and today it didn't feel like we did.

"The majority of the goals we could have done better. Switching off when they had a throw-in, getting out to the ball at the edge of the box, I could go through them all. It looked too easy for them.

"There is no doubt Arsenal are a top team but today it goes down to us.

"This game won't define our season - it isn't great losing 5-0 of course - but we've had a real tough run of games. We will look forward to the next game to put it right as quickly as possible.

"The fans don't deserve what they saw today."

  14. 'I'm glad the lads showed what a great group they are, again'published at 17:26 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    FT: Tottenham 1-2 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves manager Gary O'Neil speaking to Sky and Premier League worldwide after the win over Tottenham: "The lads were excellent. I thought it was thoroughly deserved. We spent some time in a low block and in numbers but that is a credit to the quality of Tottenham. I think we should probably had put the game to bed with the chances we had on the counter-attack.

"You just know at Tottenham that they are going to do something at some point and I felt we needed to capitalise on some of our good play. I'm disappointed with their goal but it was a really good performance. We keep pushing upwards."

On Joao Gomes' brace: "Two fantastic goals from Joao. Fantastic finish at the end. We had a lot of chances like that where players weren't able to finish them. Another brilliant move and I am really pleased the lads were able to show what a great group they are, again."

Pep (right) has won 13/23 meetings with Pochettino's teams, with six draws

Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho are the only managers to have won more games against Pep Guardiola’s teams than Mauricio Pochettino, but their head-to-head stats still don’t make happy reading for the Chelsea boss.

Poch has won only four of their 23 meetings since 2008, and just one of those victories came in the Premier League - their first encounter on these shores, when Spurs beat City 2-0 at White Hart Lane in October 2016.

He’s not had much joy here at Etihad Stadium, either, with defeats in seven of his 10 visits here, but he did nab a win almost exactly eight years ago, on Valentine’s Day 2016, a couple of weeks after City had announced Guardiola would be replacing Manuel Pellegrini at the end of that season.

  16. 'We paid the price for lack of concentration and discipline'published at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    FT: Tottenham 1-2 Wolves

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou speaking to BBC Match of the Day after the loss to Wolves: "Again, we weren't great first half. We controlled the game enough but we weren't threatening enough. Chasing the game is always difficult, against a team that is so good on the counter-attack, and we were made to pay for it.

"Both goals are disappointing from our point of view. We paid the price for not being as concentrated or disciplined in our football.

"It wasn't through the lack of effort. We had them camped in their half and then they break and score the goal. You can't keep coming from behind and doing that every week. We need to be better in the first half.

"We have had injuries all year and certainly performed better than that."

On whether the loss rules them out of the title race completely: "We are chasing trying to be the best possible team we can and progress this year to build something. That doesn't change. Our focus is on trying to finish strong and developing our football team."

  17. 'We didn't perform to the levels we can'published at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    FT: Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth

    Newcastle United

Newcastle goalscorer Matt Ritchie, speaking to Premier League Productions: "It was chaos at the end, yeah.

"Delighted to get the goal and the equaliser but frustrated that we didn't perform to the levels we know we can.

"But Bournemouth are a good side and they made it tough for us.

"When it's so late, it's nice to salvage a point but we've set the bar really high for ourselves and the expectation is on us. We want to perform consistently. That's what we aim for."

On his goal: "I visualised it a lot, I've not played in a long time and it is one of those things that keeps you going: scoring a goal, especially at that end of the stadium.

"I probably shouldn't have celebrated as much as I did because we needed to push for a win. We want to be a force here."

On not playing regularly: "It's tough for any player that is not playing. I'm 34 not 25 now but I'm still full of love for the game. This is a fantastic group.

"When you haven't played and haven't scored, you miss that feeling. There is nowher in the world that you can replace that goalscoring feeling."

On hopes for the season: "We're still well within the reach of what we want to achieve. We'll continue to push, it won't be straightforward, there will be bumps in the road but we'll continue to push."

It’s been absolutely tipping it down at Etihad Stadium for a couple of hours now - if you are a pitchside broadcaster who forgot your umbrella then you are in big trouble, basically.

Even so, the weather is still not quite as wild as it was when these two sides met at Stamford Bridge in November and we saw torrential rain, a flood of chances and a deluge of goals in a fantastic 4-4 draw.

That encounter was arguably the most thrilling Premier League game this season so far… so no pressure to match that this evening, lads.

  19. 'The early goal was important'published at 17:13 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    FT: Burnley 0-5 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal scorer Kai Havertz after his side extended their winning start to 2024 to a fifth game: "We are in a good moment, we have won all of the games so far so it feels good. Behind that was hard work and there are many hard games to come. We have to continue the hard work."

On making a fast start through Martin Odegaard's fourth-minute goal: "We wanted to start the game very well and we lacked that at West Ham. We wanted to change that so the early goal was very important to us. We scored a few more good goals and we're happy with the win."

On the feelgood factor at the club with Arsenal also pushing for the Women's Super League title: "It's amazing. We are all together, Us, the ladies, the youth so there is a good connection and a good dynamic. we try to push each other every day."

I have a feeling Chelsea will win this game tonight. Because they've been knocked off their favourite position on the table. The pressure is on them to reclaim their 10th position.
