City are living dangerously here. The break was on for Chelsea after that corner for the home team, but they could not find Raheem Sterling, who would have been clean through... Mauricio Pochettino was left howling as he ran back to the bench in frustration.

  2. VAR

In comes the corner and although it is cleared play is briefly paused as VAR checks for a challenge by Ben Chilwell on Erling Haaland inside the box.

The check is completed quickly and there's no further action.

Chelsea have been causing Manchester City problems but suddenly there's a chance on for the hosts as Kevin de Bruyne breaks forward down the left. He passes to Erling Haaland, whose return ball is too heavy but De Bruyne does manage to win a corner.

Nicolas Jackson with his hands on his head, Man City are trying to hold the defensive line high as possible - Malo Gusto runs in behind and Jackson felt like he needed a touch.

Oh it should be 1-0 to Chelsea as Cole Palmer does well with a great ball to find Malo Gusto on the right. Gusto picks out Nicolas Jackson, who has just Ederson to beat but the forward's first touch is poor and the Manchester City goalkeeper gets off his line to deal with the danger.

Good distribution or not, Edseron is one of the worst 'top' goalkeepers out there. He must give his own defence nightmares every time the opposition attacks. Put him in a lesser team and he'll be exposed.

Nathan Ake again wins out against Cole Palmer to stop another Chelsea attack.

This has been an encouraging opening by the visitors.

    Man City 0-0 Chelsea

Nicholas Jackson once again puts the pressure on Ederson as the ball is played back to the Manchester City goalkeeper.

FC Copenhagen scored against City in the Champions League in midweek after Ederson was put under pressure and that's Jackson's role here.

  9. 'Brilliant tackle from Ake'published at 17:51 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    Man City 0-0 Chelsea

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

That is good play from Chelsea, Nicholas Jackson didn't give Ederson a second.

He kept the attack going and it is a brilliant tackle from Nathan Ake who was full stretch - he just about got there.

  10. A fast startpublished at 17:50 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    Man City 0-0 Chelsea

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

It's been a frenetic first 15 minutes or so, and the tempo of this game shows no sign of dropping... a bit like the rain is showing no sign of stopping.

Both sets of fans are making a right racket too... the only thing we are missing is a goal.

  11. Postpublished at 17 mins

Superb challenge by Nathan Ake and he is congratulated by his team-mates like he had scored a goal.

A really good move by Chelsea sees Conor Gallagher slip the ball through the defence and Cole Palmer looks to be in before Ake sweeps the ball from his feet.

  13. 'Haaland's leap was incredible'published at 17:46 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    Man City 0-0 Chelsea

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

The way Man City make their movements creates space in between the centre-halves.

Erling Haaland's leap was incredible, but he just didn't direct it well enough.

Chelsea - to their credit - are having a go here as Raheem Sterling cuts inside but his low strike is an easy save for Ederson.

Best chance so far as Manchester City click through the gears, moving the ball quickly to find Julian Alvarez in space on the left. He crosses and Erling Haaland rises, but heads over the bar.

  16. 'Good play from Chelsea'published at 17:42 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February

    Man City 0-0 Chelsea

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Really good play from Chelsea started from their own half and they went through the gears at the City line.

Conor Gallagher fires it across the six-yard box, but the striker wasn't there to put it in - good play from Chelsea.

  17. Postpublished at 10 mins

Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic gets away with one as he comes out of his box to punch the ball away after a shot deflected off Enzo Fernandez, but he misses it completely, before eventually being able gather from a weak header.

There's applause from the away end as Chelsea show signs of encouragement with their first attack. They work the ball well to Conor Gallagher inside the box but his cutback is behind his team-mates.

Chelsea seem quite happy to let Manchester City have the ball. Well, either that or they just can't get the ball off them. They are certainly not taking any risks to press them and leave gaps anyway.
