That is a top class goal, out of this world.

A centre forward finish from someone who I wouldn't call a centre forward! Martinelli's movement is brilliant, Sven Botman does not see him.

Martinelli puts an early ball into a dangerous area and gets a reward.

    Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle

Plenty of the travelling Newcastle fans might have been out on the beer in Covent Garden/Camden/Islington this afternoon.

Newcastle's defenders look like they had a few pints too.

    All over the place.

When's it too early to say it's game over?

Newcastle hoof clear but the ball comes back at them like a boomerang.

Wonderful vision from Jorginho picks out the diagonal run of Gabriel Martinelli, who beats the Newcastle line and squares to the alert Kai Havertz.

The simplest of tap-ins for the German.

    Arsenal 1-0 Newcastle

Things could get messy for the visitors. But that's all down to Arsenal's intent and energy in a quality start from Mikel Arteta's men.

Ouch. It does not get prettier each time you see that goal.

Tino Livramento hacks off the line and it hits a sliding Sven Botman's knee.

Newcastle are in big trouble at the moment.

    Sven Botman (OG)

Well, it has been coming... but we probably didn't expect it to come in this manner.

The corner from the right is met by Gabriel's head and Loris Karius reacts quickly to block.

But his defenders get into a right old tangle as they try to clear, ending with Sven Botman bundling the ball over the line.

    Calamitous defending.

    Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

Focus, focus and focus is the Newcastle mantra. Lots of defending to do and Tino Livramento is well placed to head clear Jorginho's diag. Corner.

We know what Arsenal are like from these set-pieces...

    Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

Newcastle have everyone - and I mean, everyone - behind the ball.

The work which has been put in on the training ground this week is quite clear.

Gabriel Martinelli tries to twist and turn into space but can't quite take the ball with him.

As suspected, Trippier is quickly back to his feet. More defending to do.

Arsenal have had almost 70% of the possession so far. Newcastle's Kieran Trippier goes down clutching his knee and the game is paused.

The boos raining down from the home stands indicate they think it isn't anything too serious.

As a Liverpool fan hoping for Arsenal’s worst game of the season I’m not worried about seeing Karius in goal. The guy was picked by Klopp on merit and did well for us. Plenty of outfield players don’t turn up in big games let alone finals. Karius has done well to recover and end up on the Premier league again. Warrior - YNWA.

    "Shooooot!" urge the Arsenal fans.

So Jorginho does. The long-ranger is blocked by a Newcastle body.

Suspect a lot of that will have to happen for the visitors to keep a clean sheet tonight.

  14. Arsenal dominating opening minutespublished at 11 mins

It is a comfortable save for Lorius Karius, Declan Rice is well within his rights to have a shot at goal there.

Arsenal have such domination in this fixture.

    Another minute, another Arsenal chance.

This is the sort of start which Mikel Arteta demands and a very similar vibe to their win at Burnley last weekend.

The difference is they haven't found a breakthrough yet.

Declan Rice finds himself staring down Loris Karius but drills a shot straight at the Newcastle keeper.

Be a shock here if Newcastle even attempt to go forward. So often against the big sides away they’re absolutely gutless and offer almost nothing.

    Paul

The hype around Arsenal is perplexing. They're good, but one FA Cup and a second-place finish in the last five years doesn't justify the plaudits they're getting.

Chance! Bukayo Saka has been firing in recent weeks, but not quite found a sighter yet.

Tino Livramento, who Newcastle fans have been clamouring to start, dozes off as Saka gets in behind, but the England winger cannot stretch Loris Karius.

    A let-off.

Oooh, an early yellow card for Martin Odegaard.

The Arsenal skipper gives a pass away in the Newcastle third and shows his frustration as he chases back, sliding in on Miguel Almiron and swiping his legs. Can't have many complaints.

Start again and build from the back.
