    Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle

We've seen more from Newcastle in the first 10 minutes of the second half than the entire first half.

Anthony Gordon, in particular, is seeing more of the ball and trying to run at Ben White.

Amazing how people comment that Newcastle are really poor however Arsenal have been outstanding and have not let Newcastle have anything in this game. More credit should be shown to Arsenal for the outstanding performance then to negatively say that Newcastle are just really poor tonight. Arsenal are making them look poor.

    Steve

When I saw that Karius was playing I thought he’d be the weak link, but he’s been their best player.

    Dave

This isn’t Newcastle playing badly, this is Arsenal not letting them play at all.

Arsenal try to regain the control which they oozed in the first half and win a free-kick down the right.

The Gunners faithful find their voice as the decibels get cranked up.

Now don't shout me down, but we've seen a couple of early signs in this second half that this game is not completely over.

Call me mad, call me optimistic, call me whatever, but if Newcastle can just nick something then we might have a game on our hands.

Newcastle playing exactly as they did at the Emirates last season except this time Arsenal have scored 2 so they won’t be scraping an undeserved 0-0 this time.

    Paul

In games like this Almiron is a waste of space. Poor control, no right foot, and his tackling back is hopeless. Get Murphy or Willock on!

Here is some encouragement for Newcastle.

Alexander Isak has a first sniff of goal as he tries to round David Raya, but is unable to get a shot away, and moments later Anthony Gordon's shot is blocked by the Arsenal keeper.

    Arsenal should be 3-0 ahead.

Kai Havertz is in behind the Newcastle defence but skews his shot wide of the right-hand post.

The flag goes up anyway - but it was tight. Would have been one for VAR to dissect if Havertz had converted.

How about this for a stat... Newcastle failed to record a shot in the first half of a Premier League game since March 2014 against Southampton.

    Ten years!

    Take two.

Newcastle striker Alexander Isak kicks things off and that's about as many touches as he had in that one-sided first half.

Arsenal look like a team who is really upset with their performance midweek, the press and intensity was immediately on the front foot.

Arsenal have been savage and suffocated this Newcastle team.

Imagine Stan Bowles would have approved of this Arsenal team - a side playing with verve, freedom and entertaining the people who pay to come through the gate.

Let's head back to the Emirates where the players are emerging from the dressing room...

Afraid we have some sad news to bring you... Stan Bowles, the former England and Queens Park Rangers forward, has died aged 75.

Bowles, who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, played more than 560 games in English football and was capped five times by England.

Bowles was known as one of the game's great entertainers for his flamboyant style of play and charismatic personality.

Synonymous with QPR, he made 315 appearances and scored 97 goals for the Loftus Road club.

Bowles also played for Manchester City, Bury, Crewe Alexandra, Carlisle United, Nottingham Forest, Leyton Orient and Brentford.

"Stan was a special talent - a 1970s footballing maverick - who was popular for his antics both on and off the field," QPR said.

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, speaking to Sky Sports: "Even when you play well and put them under pressure - second half I think they were suffering - but you have to take your chances and be more clinical.

"It was the type of game we expected. We did well for 25 minutes and then started to lose the high press as we got tired.

"They scored the goal but the second half was very good from our side. But in the end we missed the most important thing which was the finishing.

"We were brave in the second half and we were close to having something, but we couldn't do it.

"It is very difficult to get a result against them. We defended well but on the other side we didn't finish the things we created.

"I think we we are playing well. Now I hope we continue with this level of football and intensity."

  14. 'Foden was outstanding'published at 20:56 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February

    Francis Benali
Former Southampton defender on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

I think Bournemouth will be frustrated and kicking themselves that they didn't take a point from this match today.

From City's perspective it's three points. Not the most convincing or most dominant of games.

It's not just his goal but I thought Phil Foden was outstanding today. Always making himself available for the ball, always a threat and problem to the Bournemouth side.

A very interesting game of football.

  15. 'My players are supermen'published at 20:55 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February

    Bournemouth 0-1 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola to Sky Sports:

"I adore my players - they are supermen. They are so good. Where we come from for many years, playing every three days - they [Bournemouth] had seven days to prepare for the game and we always have less.

"So when people say, you play in the same conditions in the Premier League, no, no - we don't have the same equality, we have much more games than the rest to play, and this is a tough place to come, they are a fantastic team, they won 3-0 at Old Trafford.

"We demand too much of our players but they respond. I know people say 'they earn a lot of money' but it [the schedule] is too much. Honestly. But business must go on and it surprises me every time how we are still there, they have an incredible character and are so competitive even when they are tired, they give extra.

"Our fans have to be so proud of these guys.

"The last 10-15 minutes were tough - we won the Treble and people think we have to win every game 4-0, 5-0 but that is not the reality and hopefully soon we can have a week off and refresh our minds and legs."

  16. 'My admiration to all the players is unbelievable'published at 20:54 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February

    FT: Bournemouth 0-1 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to Match of the Day: "I am really pleased about the way we behaved. It is a tough place to come. We did really, really well.

"John Stones was amazing. Phil Foden is playing the best football I have seen from him. Everyone made a contribution and I am really pleased.

"They had seven days to prepare for this game but we had three. There are teams who play with less recovery than the other one in the Premier League.

"We played fantastic game in the first half and should have scored more. In general it was unbelievable the way we defended because we needed it. When you don't have recovery and the players are tired, you cannot expect to be perfect because they are human beings.

"Every three days for years, not just this season, years. It is difficult but they are still winning. My admiration to all the players is unbelievable.

"I would love to win three or four. It is what it is."

One of the most one-sided halves of Premier League football you will see this season.

Arsenal, knowing they need to cut the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City, have been irresistible against a poor Newcastle team.

You might be down in London on a Saturday night - which costs a pretty penny - and your team are getting a real runaround, but you won't see the Newcastle fans looking fed up.

The away end is still in fine voice as they try to rally their boys.
