  1. Kilmarnock need 'legs' to succeed at Ibroxpublished at 14:57 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Rangers v Kilmarnock (15:00)

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnesImage source, SNS

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland: "We've had a really good period, strong period of results. Absolutely delighted with what the players have given us.

"Test today, clearly, against Rangers. They're in decent form, Rangers, under their new manager and we're well aware of the task ahead of us today.

"We've gone with this system against Rangers and Celtic a lot of the time. There's a responsibility from everybody to go and join in and support.

"We recognise the importance of having good legs today as well as good performances."

  2. 'We know this will be a fight' - Naismithpublished at 14:56 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Livingston v Hearts (15:00)

Hearts boss Steven Naismith tells BBC Scotland: "[The rotation] is a mixture of the game, the turnaround, the players away on international duty. Hopefully the freshness will help us today but it will be tough. The pitch alone makes it tougher.

"Livi are fighting for their lives, so we know it'll be a fight. It's a dangerous place to come. Livi have been in these positions in previous seasons, they know what's needed, there isn't a nervousness around them.

"The bounce of the ball and the pace of play changes the dynamic for us but we're well aware of that.

"The right-back situation is one we want to rectify. We're working on the right option for us. We're not looking to overhaul the squad, we're not trying to push loads in or out."

  3. 'We've got game changers at County'published at 14:55 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Ross County v Aberdeen (15:00)

    Derek AdamsImage source, SNS

Ross County manager Derek Adams tells BBC Scotland: "Victor [Loturi] comes in. Scott's injured so he misses out. That's the only change from Hearts where we played ever so well.

"It's only right that we try to play in the same way and the same style we did there. We come up against an Aberdeen side that have changed their formation.

"It's important to have game changers, players with creativity and players who can score goals - we've certainly got that.

"We've got to use our home advantage today. We have to understand Aberdeen's position, pressure them and force them into mistakes."

  4. 'I need players who'll run through brick walls'published at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Livingston v Hearts (15:00)

Livingston boss David Martindale tells BBC Scotland: "If I'm being brutally honest, January is about getting three or four players in. That's where my mind is.

"I spoke to the players, I told them if they don't want to be here, get your agent to phone me. I need boys who will run through brick walls.

"I've not had any calls but I think I'll get a couple tomorrow. If you're not up for the battle, let me know and we'll work something out between us. I've got a strong 13 or 14, but outside that we've been let down.

"I've let the boys down, my recruitment has to be better. We are everyone's relegation favourites. We're all fighting for our own futures. There needs to be personal pride there as well."

  5. Clement feels Rangers need 'a lot of quality on the ball'published at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Rangers v Kilmarnock (15:00)

Rangers manager Philippe Clement tells BBC Scotland: "We had a lot of games in a short term and it's now about putting all our energy into this game.

"It's a big challenge today. Kilmarnock are on a really good run. We're going to go hard to get the three points.

"They're a team that adapt really well towards the opponent to stop you, in a good physical way with a lot of structure, with a lot of duels and they are really good in the transitions and set pieces. We need to be very attentive for that.

"We need a lot of movement without the ball, we need a lot of quality on the ball to win this game.

"Fabio Silva is on the bench because he doesn't have much rhythm. He doesn't know his team-mates."

    Livingston v Hearts (15:00)

BBC Scotland at Tony Macaroni Arena

As the D-Ream anthem goes, things can surely only get better for Livingston.

It’s now two points from a possible 36 for David Martindale and his team, leaving them rooted at the bottom of the Premiership table.

For Hearts, 2024 will be the year they will celebrate their 150th anniversary and they will feel there is no better way to do so than secure another European spot and possibly have some silverware.

For both teams, and for very different reasons, 2024 will be one to remember.

  8. Can Shankland make it six in a row?published at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Livingston v Hearts (15:00)

    Lawrence ShanklandImage source, SNS

The last Scotsman to score in six straight top-flight games was Leigh Griffiths for Celtic in September 2015. You wouldn't bet against Lawrence Shankland matching that feat today.

Not only is he in stellar form - six goals in his last five games, 12 in his last 13, and 17 for the campaign - but Hearts' hosts are bottom club Livingston, who have conceded 30 times in their first 20 matches this term.

Speculation continues to swirl around the Scotland forward, who has 18 months left on his deal and is attracting interest from other clubs.

But rather than distract him, the talk appears to have focused the mind of the 28-year-old, who scored more than any other player in the top flight in 2023.

I know, you've already seen this 100 times.

But you need to watch it again. You just have to. This can't not win the Puskas Award.

It's not enough for Ali Adams to get in Arbroath's starting attack today though, the big man is on a three-man bench for the visit of Dundee United.

Livingston v Hearts: The hosts have only won two of their last 24 top-flight league games against Hearts (D10 L12), although both were at home.

Rangers v Kilmarnock: The Ibrox side have won each of their last five home league games against Kilmarnock since a 1-1 draw in March 2019.

Ross County v Aberdeen: The Dons have only lost one of their last eight league trips to Dingwall (W5 D2), a 4-1 defeat in January 2021.

St Mirren v Celtic: The hosts have won just three of their last 55 league meetings with Celtic (D7 L45), although two of those have been since 2021.

    Scottish Premiership

There can be a fair bit of movement today, with just one point splitting four teams in the bottom half.

Leaders Celtic won't be shifted, but the points gap could of course be stretched or cut.

Same applies for bottom side Livingston, who can only hope to reduce the margin between themselves and the rest this afternoon.

  13. Game of the day at Ibrox?published at 14:29 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Rangers v Kilmarnock (15:00)

    Richard Winton
    BBC Scotland

Until Saturday, Rangers were flying. Seventeen games unbeaten - 16 of them under Philippe Clement - with a bit of silver in the cabinet and a Europa League last-16 tie to look forward to.

However, derby defeat has stalled that momentum and shifted the title-race narrative again.

They are now eight points behind their city rivals but retain two games in hand. Playing before Celtic kick off on Tuesday also gives them a chance to reapply a little pressure.

But more spilled points could further dent their ambitions and Kilmarnock have shown they are capable of big results this season.

Rangers lost at Rugby Park on the opening day and Celtic have been humbled there twice this term. Granted, playing in Glasgow and on grass is a different matter.

But Derek McInnes' side are enjoying a fine campaign. They sit fourth, with the chance of finishing the 'best of the rest' within their sights along with a European spot.

    Ross County v Aberdeen (15:00)

After the festive celebrations, Aberdeen and Ross County will be looking to make a positive start to 2024.

Having seen a two-goal lead evaporate at Hearts last time out, the Dingwall side will be desperate to get the three points today.

County may be 11th in the Premiership but they have definitely improved under the recently-appointed Derek Adams and a win will see them leapfrog Aberdeen.

Any thoughts of a corner being turned came to a shuddering halt when the Dons were thumped 3-0 at home to St Mirren at the weekend.

That was a result, and performance, which saw a large section of the support vent their anger at manager Barry Robson, who again appears to be a man under some real pressure.

He knows the only way to stop that pressure ramping up to a tipping point is to start winning games and Dingwall would be a good place to begin.

  15. One change for County, Dons go with back fourpublished at 14:24 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Ross County v Aberdeen (15:00)

Just one change for Ross County following that 2-2 draw at Tynecastle as Victor Loturi replaces Scott Allardice in midfield.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen boss Barry Robson looks to have changed formation for this game, reverting to a back four.

Jack MacKenzie comes in for Richard Jensen in defence, while Connor Barron and Dante Polvara are both promoted to the starting XI.

Duk drops to the bench and James McGarry misses out entirely.

Yet again, David Martindale drops Shamal George and replaces him with Jack Hamilton.

He's one of five changes as Tom Parkes, Jamie Brandon, Steven Bradley and Andrew Shinnie also return to the starting XI.

Michael Nottingham, Cristian Montano, Bruce Anderson and Joel Nouble drop to the bench, with new signing Tete Yengi among the substitutes.

Steven Naismith changes five from the team that drew against Ross County four days ago, with Peter Haring making his first start since September.

Toby Sibbick returns to fill in at right wing-back, while Kenneth Vargas and Alan Forrest support Lawrence Shankland up top. Stephen Kingsley comes in on the left of the back three.

  18. Silva on bench for Rangers, Killie's Lyons misses outpublished at 14:14 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Rangers v Kilmarnock (15:00)

Rangers make two changes following Saturday's loss at Celtic Park.

John Souttar replaces the suspended Leon Balogun in defence while Kieran Dowell returns in midfield with Dujon Sterling on the bench.

Also among the substitutes are new signing Fabio Silva and the returning Nico Raskin.

There are four alterations in the Kilmarnock side.

Corrie Ndaba takes over from Robbie Deas in defence and in midfield Rory McKenzie, Liam Donnelly and Liam Polworth start as David Watson and Marley Watkins drop to the bench with Deas.

Brad Lyons, who scored Killie's winner against Rangers in August, does not make the squad.

  19. Hibs missing internationals, three Well changespublished at 14:12 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Hibernian v Motherwell (15:00)

Hibernian are missing Martin Boyle, Lewis Miller and Rocky Bushiri to international commitments with the Asian Cup and Afcon.

And Josh Campbell is injured, so it's four changes from the Edinburgh derby.

Rory Whittaker, Paul Hanlon, Elie Youan and Christian Doidge all come in.

As for Motherwell, it's three enforced changes from the win over Livingston. Shane Blaney and Oli Shaw are injured and Brodie Spencer is suspended.

Bevis Mugabi, Callum Slattery and Harry Paton all start.
