Having endured a yo-yo existence since their one-year Premier League stint in 2011-12 - dropping as low as League Two amid a bitter battle between fans and the former owners - things are more stable at Blackpool these days.

The Tangerines are currently eighth in League One, sitting seven points outside the play-off places.

Everton v Crystal Palace (19:45 GMT)

Four Premier League clubs have fallen at the first hurdle in this season's FA Cup - Brentford (lost to Wolves), Arsenal (lost to Liverpool), Burnley (lost to Tottenham) and West Ham (lost to Bristol City).

At least one more will join the list tonight as Everton host Crystal Palace in an all-Premier League replay.

Everton are looking to avoid going out at the third round for the third time in five seasons (2019-20, 2022-23).

Meanwhile, Palace are looking to avoid being eliminated at this stage for the fifth time in seven seasons (2017-18, 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2022-23).

  3. Deja vu for Forest?published at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January

Blackpool v Nottingham Forest (19:45 GMT)

Nottingham Forest must be sick of the sight of Blackpool in the FA Cup.

As well as the draw which led to this replay, they met at Bloomfield Road in the third round last season.

Blackpool stunned their Premier League opponents on that occasion, winning 4-1. What chance of a repeat tonight?

If Blackpool do make it through, they will reach the fourth round of the FA Cup in consecutive campaigns for the first time since 1969-70 and 1970-71.

A small piece of Premier League transfer news to bring you before we get stuck into the FA Cup action.

Brentford have confirmed the signing of left back Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham until the end of the season.

Reguilon spent the first half of the season on loan at Manchester United, but his deal was ended earlier this month and he has now joined the Bees for the remainder of the campaign.

FA Cup highlights: Bristol City progress against 10-man West Ham

The winner of this tie will play Bristol City, who are so far the only non-Premier League side to eliminate a top flight club from the FA Cup this season.

City beat West Ham 1-0 at Ashton Gate last night, and will welcome the victor of this game in round four.

Will Blackpool make it a meeting of giant killers, or will Forest ensure they are the next Premier League side to take on the Robins?

Manager Sean Dyche has often stated his job is to ignore "the noise" around off-the-field events and simply get results on the pitch. It is a task made harder by Monday's developments.

Everton are currently one point outside the relegation places, one point ahead of Luton Town having played a game more, so cannot afford any further points sanctions.

Dyche's team, in effect, wiped out that 10-point deduction with four straight Premier League wins but an indifferent run has made their position perilous once more.

Everton will hope they can defend their position successfully at both the initial appeal and any subsequent commission - but there is no doubt the coming months will shape the very future of the club

Nottingham Forest fought back from 2-0 down in the first tie to avoid a shock home defeat by League One side Blackpool, with goals from Nicolas Dominguez and Morgan Gibbs-White forcing a 2-2 draw to set up tonight's replay.

Forest haven't played since and there has been little to cheer around the club as on Monday it was announced they, along with Everton, were in breach of profit and sustainability rules and could face a points deduction which would threaten their future in the Premier League.

They are 15th in the top flight and only four points above the relegation zone.

"We're all concerned at the club, but me as a coach there's nothing I have to think of," said boss Nuno Espirito Santo. "My job is clear - to prepare the team. We have a match and that's what we're focused on. We have to be compact because we want to go through."

Forest are without six players because of the Africa Cup of Nations and are missing key players in winger Anthony Elanga and striker Taiwo Awoniyi through injury.

Blackpool are eighth in League One, seven points adrift of the play-offs, with the winner of this one facing an away game at Championship side Bristol City, who eliminated Premier League West Ham on Tuesday, in round four.

Neither Forest or Everton can afford to drop that many points [due to sanctions] regardless of who you are up against in the Premier League.

It is a real positive that after the deduction Everton found those ten points back in their league form with some good results.

If they were still chasing those points and feeling like they had a long way back, ad then if they got hit with another deduction, that would almost seem insurmountable.

Aaron: Palace have the best defence outside the top four. I believe Everton's only chance of winning is to play a 4-4-2 formation with Danjuma up front with Calvert-Lewin.

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo insists Nottingham Forest "have to start better" against Blackpool after his side had to come from behind to force a replay.

"Our mistake was at the beginning of the game where we conceded too easy, and we have to improve on that," he said. "We have to be compact because we want to go through.

"We don’t have too many options so it’s not about rotation, we’ll go with those that are available.

"The players are ready for two games in a row because our preparation has been good. It’s always going to be a strong starting 11."

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It feels never-ending at the moment for Everton.

You've fallen foul of the sanctions on the first occasion and that the situation is done and dusted. You feel the ten points is not right, is unjust.

You're appealing it, you think that is the process, and then in the middle of it you get hit with another one on top of it. It's very messy if I'm being honest.

There is a lot of discontent around these parts and I think you will hear that, you will also see the placards even if this is not a Premier League game. But it is nothing the players can do anything about, and even though the game is one they wouldn't have wanted, they are here now and will want to win.

Blackpool manager Neil Critchley has urged his players to "create a memory in a magical competition" as the League One side look to dump Premier League Nottingham Forest out of the FA Cup.

"We've been looking forward to this occasion ever since the final whistle blew at the City Ground," writes Critchley in the matchday programme.

"Moments like this don't come around too often and a chance to cause an upset against a Premier League team is something we have been focused on achieving.

"Our performance in the opening game between the two sides was excellent, we were well organised out of possession, concentrated on the game plan and were clinical when chances came.

"We look to create a memory in a magical competition. Careers come and go in a flash and I like to remind the players of that in moments like this.

"If they can go toe-to-toe once again with a side of considerable quality and cause an upset to take us into the fourth round, it will stay with them for the rest of their lives."

'It's a strange situation' - Dyche on Everton sanctions

Former Chelsea and Everton winger Pat Nevin, writing for the BBC Football Extra newsletter: "The Premier League has suddenly become addicted to attacking its own clubs using its financial and sustainability rule book. In fact they are now throwing that entire book at Everton as well as Nottingham Forest.

"Both clubs have admitted mistakes and failings, but both also argue that there were good reasons they did so. The Toffees feel that the initial 10-point deduction was miles too harsh compared to previous punishments and indeed the scale of their transgression. That £20 million overspend in three years that they thought could be accounted for differently is roughly the value of a decent striker’s left leg!

"Chief financial officers at other clubs will now be scurrying to get their accountants to double and triple check their positions, because at this level accountancy is considered a subjective art, sometimes a dark one, and not a factual branch of mathematics.

"Certain Premier League clubs are suddenly pleading poverty, which used to be a bargaining tool, but now reveals a realistic fear of a points deduction due to historically bad accountancy advice. I even heard one Premier League coach claim that his club couldn’t afford a trip to the sun during the current winter break!

"Sadly the final league position of some clubs may well be decided not by how good their players are, but how strong their legal team is and how creative their accountants are."

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson hopes the club can push to secure a loan move for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

"He's a good player. I would like to think that if Kalvin Phillips is available and a possibility for the club - once again, there will be financial restrictions, who knows whether the club feels they will be able to afford that - but if you're talking about the level of player, I don't feel there will be many managers who would not say 'yeah, we will be really happy to have him come to the club'.

Hodgson added, "If they are purely going to sell him, then I don't think we will be in the market. If they're going to loan him, I would like to think that we could possibly put our hand up and push ourselves forward."

The whole of English football is very competitive at the moment, there are a lot of very good teams in every division.

Blackpool are in fantastic form at home, nine wins out of their last ten, and they will fancy themselves against this Nottingham Forest side.

Forest are missing six players at the Africa Cup of Nations, Morgan Gibbs-White, who is a big player for them, is out injured, so it is a good opportunity for Blackpool.
