We had some cheerleaders to entertain us at half-time.

They were dressed in green and white, but I’m pretty sure that was due to the product they were plugging as opposed to the fact they were supporting Nigeria.

They certainly showed more energy than Jose Peseiro’s team in that first-half.

I can’t imagine the Portuguese was happy with that display and will be demanding more.

Nigeria need to make a few tactical tweaks and try to get Victor Osinhem in the game.

At the moment South Africa are finding it easy to pin them back towards the half way line, with the high wing backs and number nine running in beyond, with the tens in and around him.

Why can't Nigeria be doing something similar? They are not asking enough questions of the South Africa back line.

South Africa get the second half under way. Can either side find a winner or will we be going to extra time?

  4. 'If ball in behind is timed better, South Africa have a real opportunity'published at 18:04 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February

    HT: Nigeria 0-0 South Africa

    Nedum Onuoha
Former Manchester City defender on BBC Two

South Africa have this ability to be in transition and then all of a sudden they are testing the back line and running in behind.

If they could possibly time that through ball better that is a real opportunity for them.

You thought at the start that maybe it was a one off, but it has been a theme of the half. They are letting Nigeria know that there is a space in behind that they are willing to run into, and it is making Nigeria uncomfortable.

  5. 'Nigeria need to be careful with the ball in the middle'published at 18:01 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February

Nigeria need to make sure that they manage the ball really well in the middle of the pitch, not lose silly balls, because South Africa are looking to be quick going forward when they win it back.

Nigeria are trying to hurt their opponent every time they go forward, rushing it a little bit, and South Africa are just blocking the offensive players Lookman, Simon and Osimhen.

To those complaining about the crowd numbers: do you realise just how big Africa is? When you factor in the huge travel distances and low average wages, it's not a surprise that nations can't muster large numbers of travelling fans.

A reminder that the Ivory Coast v DR Congo semi-final will be on BBC Three later on with kick-off at 20:00 GMT.

But before then, the Nigeria v South Africa match will have to find a winner, with extra time and maybe penalties also a possibility.

It is clear to me that South Africa have been the better side, they are playing closer to their potential than Nigeria are.

We've not seen a lot from Lookman, we've not seen a lot from Simon, we've not seen a lot from Osimhen.

South Africa have asked a few questions of Nigeria which at times they have looked uncomfortable with, such as stretching the game in behind or prompting lots of transitions.

Lanre: This kind of game is where you need big players to come through with individual brilliance. Let’s do it the Naija way!

Emeka: Not the formation ain't working; it's the other way round. Bafana Bafana are checkmating the Eagles, box-to-box. One goal is enough to go through. The most clinical team will have the edge. Although, it's been crappy for the Eagles but they dance around in the second half.

  10. HALF-TIMEpublished at 17:50 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February

    Nigeria 0-0 South Africa

The drama in this semi-final is still to come. Few clear-cut chances.

South Africa's Evidence Makgopa has had an effort pushed away by a diving Stanley Nwabali and at the other end Victor Osimhen has headed wide, but that's about it.

South Africa have somewhat ridden their luck at this tournament. Long may it continue.

If RSA can speed things up a bit this game is very much there for them. Nigeria almost look disinterested.

We've not really seen much of Themba Zwane as an attacking threat for South Africa. He's done a lot of good defensive work in the middle of the park alongside Sithole and Mokoena and Xulu.

Nigeria are finding it difficult, much more difficult than any other game so far, to get up the field particularly on counter attacks. Their strengths in terms of ball manipulation have been completely nullified in midfield so far.

  13. CLOSE!published at 44 mins

    Nigeria 0-0 South Africa

Frank Onyeka of Brentford gets the ball on the right wing for Nigeria and it would've been a good chance if the cross in had been better. Instead, it doesn't make its way to a frustrated Victor Osimhen, lurking dangerously in the penalty area.

Osimhen is then left frustrated again as he nods wide from 12 yards out. South Africa have done a good job of keeping him quiet so far.

Some of the fans have decided to make their own fun.

A group of around six men are running around in the aisles carrying a large Moroccan flag, garnering a few half-hearted cheers for their efforts.

They were presumably expecting the Atlas Lions, one of the big pre-tournament favourites, to make it this far.

Given it was South Africa who knocked them out in the second round, I wonder who they are supporting today?

  15. GREAT SAVE!published at 41 mins

    Nigeria 0-0 South Africa

The best moment of the match so far. The ball is played forward to the influential Percy Tau for South Africa and he lays it off into the path of Evidence Makgopa.

Just outside the penalty area, Makgopa hits it first time and his curling effort would have gone in, had it not been for the diving Stanley Nwabali, who flings himself to his left and gets a hand to the strike to push it away from goal.

A shooting chance for Fulham's Alex Iwobi, 25 yards out after being set up by Moses Simon on the left flank.

Iwobi tries to place it and curl it into the corner, but the lack of pace on the ball makes it easy for Ronwen Williams, who has his body behind it and doesn't even have to dive to stop the effort.

  18. 'South Africa looking dangerous on the counter'published at 37 mins

    Nigeria 0-0 South Africa

    Efan Ekoku
Former Nigeria striker on BBC Two

A little bit scrappy for the first 15 minutes or so, before Nigeria looked to be taking control of things and dominating the ball but without getting the reward perhaps for their efforts. They didn't look as if they were going to score really.

Since then though it has been a rather even game. South Africa are definitely growing into it, and looking dangerous on the counter.

  19. Postpublished at 36 mins

    Nigeria 0-0 South Africa

Percy Tau is seeing a lot of action for South Africa and he sends over an outswinging corner and it is met by Sphephelo Sithole, but the glancing header goes well wide.

Tau then looks to break free in the left channel and is away from William Troost-Ekong, but the ball bounces off the thigh of Tau and that enables Stanley Nwabali to collect and see off the danger.

You can choose your football cliché with this one so far.

A game that needs a spark/goal/reducer – just something to get it going and get the crowd really involved.

Percy Tau’s shot inside the area that went straight at Nwabali is the closest we’ve come so far.

And there are definite signs of South Africa growing into it.
