Ivory Coast's three-man midfield started very disorganised in this tournament, Franck Kessie struggled to begin with, but he has settled more since the arrival of Emerse Fae.

When we talk about Victor Osimhen, you talk about him as a goalscorer. This tournament, he's scored one goal, but he's had a big impact on how Nigeria have played. He's committed on how Nigeria have played, they are direct and attacking. Nigeria have got some good crossers, at some point you think it will turn for him. If Nigeria win the tournament, he won't be crying about not scoring many goals.

We've seen teams lose their first matches at the World Cup and go on to win - Spain in 2010 and Argentina at the recent World Cup. At Euro 2016 we saw Portugal almost drawing their way to the trophy.

But I can't remember so many twists and turns where Ivory Coast were seconds from going out of the group stage, minutes from going out in the last 16, seconds from going out of the quarter-finals and also sacking their manager as well.

They even tried to replace the interim manager during the tournament.

Suddenly they have a really good team and the reason for this is that there are two players back from injury. Simon Adingra of Brighton has made a big difference and the big one Sebastien Haller who gives them a focal point up front.

Ivory Coast sacked boss Jean-Louis Gasset mid-tournament after a disastrous 4-0 defeat to Equatorial Guinea left their hopes of qualifying through the group stage on a knife-edge. However, Morocco's win over Zambia meant Les Elephants snuck in as one of the best third-placed teams.

Under interim boss Emerse Fae, one of Gasset's coaches, they defeated Senegal in the last 16 on penalties, knocked out Mali after extra-time in the quarter-finals, before edging past DR Congo in the semi-finals.

Fae, 40, played for Reading in 2007-08 in the Premier League.

Scouring the impressive sea of orange which covers 99.9% percent of the stadium I've been craning my neck trying to spot a pocket of green representing Nigeria. And there's one! Behind the goal to the left of our position there's a dedicated group of Super Eagles supporters. They're going to have to go some to make themselves heard if the roars from the home fans so far have been anything to go by

I'm so proud because this is a country that has come through some really tough times, we've had struggles with civil war. After that, we had an amazing president who did a brilliant job, he built great jobs, hospitals. You can see the country is improving and we are really proud, it shows what African countries can do with good leaders.
