  1. That's a wrap on the FA Cup fourth roundpublished at FOR LAST POST

    FT: Blackburn Rovers 4-1 Wrexham

So that's it from us this evening and indeed, that's it from the FA Cup fourth round.

There was no Hollywood story for Wrexham tonight, they found a much harsher reality in Lancashire as Blackburn scored four goals and in truth, could have had more.

It all looked so promising for Wrexham when they took an early lead but, in truth, the home side were in control from the moment they equalised.

It's a home clash with Newcastle United now for Blackburn, while Wrexham will turn their attention back to their League Two promotion push as they head back down the M6.

Coming here tonight, I think 7,000 fans thought they'd get something out of the game, but they got given a bit of a lesson I'd say.

The priority is to get back to League One, it's as simple as that.

What worries me, I think they can do it for sure, they're good at home. Once they get on top, they smother you, but away from home, they don't seem to have that same bite.

If you're going to get promoted automatically, you have to pick up wins away from home.

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson on BBC Match of the Day:

"First five or 10 minutes I thought we started a bit edgy then we grew into the game and got the goal.

"We had another great chance to make it 2-0.

"Then they've scored a good goal, deflected, but it's still a good move. The second one, they take the throw from 15 yards away from where it should have been.

"The third one is disappointing [because] coming in at 2-1 at half time, we'd have a real chance.

"The fourth goal kills the game, and then we looked dispirited. It was a tough night for us.

"We were up against a good side with two strikers who are right at the top of their game.

"It's a great lesson for us. Against better quality players, you've got to be switched on all the time or you get punished, and they punished us tonight.

"We've had some terrific days in the cup, Shrewsbury away, Mansfield away.

"Today wasn't the night for us, but we'll regroup and we'll concentrate on a terrific second part of the season in the league."

  4. We can beat anyone here - Szmodicspublished at 21:44 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January

    FT: Blackburn Rovers 4-1 Wrexham

Blackburn Rovers striker Sammie Szmodics speaking to BBC One Wales:

"We thoroughly deserved the win tonight. Wrexham are a tough team and we had to be aware of their strengths and qualities but we managed that really well."

"Chuffed to get through and into the next round, looking forward to Newcastle.

"We feel like we can beat anyone here on our day, there was great support from both fans and fair play to the Wrexham fans, they didn't stop signing all night."

"Hopefully we can take this back into the Championship, I think with the win and the performance it will only help us in doing that."

  6. We stayed calm - Tomassonpublished at 21:38 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January

    FT: Blackburn Rovers 4-1 Wrexham

Blackburn Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson on Match of the Day Wales:

"I always enjoy the cup, you know that! Playing in the FA Cup is something special.

"When you're playing in the FA Cup, first of all, it's important to win the game. A game like this tonight, it can be a dangerous game.

"We could have been 2-0 up after five minutes, and then we conceded a goal.

"The players stayed calm. We scored brilliant goals after that.

"We played a little bit quicker in the second half than the first half and created plenty of chances, so it was a great game.

"I must admit, Wrexham bringing more than 7,000 fans on a Monday night, that's incredible."

    Ashley Williams
Former Wales defender on BBC Match of the Day

It wouldn't surprise me if people are interested in him.

He's just the catalyst for everything they (Blackburn) do that's good going forward.

It would be interesting to see if he could make the jump to maybe a Premier League team or wherever it might be for him.

We hoped that Wrexham had enough to live with Blackburn, but, in the end, they didn't really and they just never really got going.

Very professional performance from Blackburn, they showed Wrexham that they were up for the challenge.

They grew and grew throughout the game and played some really nice football at times.

Blackburn have been so dominant on the ball in the second half.

The Wrexham players really do look tired and jaded now.

They've had to chase and chase those in the blue and white, it takes its toll.

No Hollywood ending for Wrexham tonight.

Well, A Hollywood ending, but the sort you rarely see.

An Arlington Road sort of ending.

    Seen that film? It's dark.

And it's from 1999, so it's a contemporary reference for me.
