  1. Smart money is on a drawpublished at 14:43 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January

    St Johnstone v Motherwell (15:00)

    Tyrone Smith
    BBC Scotland at McDiarmid Park

It is not really that surprising that the two games between St Johnstone and Motherwell already this season have ended in draws and perhaps the smart money would be on a similar outcome this afternoon.

The hosts will feel pretty good about themselves after a decent showing in their draw with Aberdeen last time out, while Motherwell – despite their dreadful league form – are travelling to Perth unbeaten in their last three games in all competitions.

So maybe the ingredients are there for a better looking game than the two side’s league positions would suggest.

    Scottish League 1

The big news in the third tier this week was Edinburgh City being deducted six points following financial problems, which means they find themselves nine adrift of Annan Athletic at the bottom.

It makes today's trip to the south of Scotland even more of a must-win.

Leaders Falkirk look to recover from their shock Scottish Cup loss to Bonnyrigg Rose as they visit neighbours Alloa Athletic. Hamilton Academical are nine behind as they host Montrose.

  5. Huge test for new County playerspublished at 14:38 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January

    Celtic v Ross County (15:00)

    Jane Lewis
    BBC Scotland at Celtic Park

Much of the pre-match chat ahead of this one centred a new contract for Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers and the rejection of a bid from Atletico Madrid for midfielder Matt O'Reilly.

News that was no doubt massively welcomed by Celtic fans and both described as "significant" by manager Brendan Rodgers as his side look to restore the five-point gap at the top of the table.

Ross County have rung the changes. Six players who've been brought in in January start against Celtic.

Quite the test for the new boys, but as Derek Adams says, he'll learn a lot about his players here.

  6. Rangers keep heat on at top of the tablepublished at 14:35 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January

    FT: St Mirren 0-1 Rangers

    Martin Dowden
    BBC Scotland at SMISA Stadium

Another three points and another clean sheet on the road for Rangers in very demanding conditions. Philippe Clement will be delighted to leave with that.

They had fortune though, with St Mirren missing one or two excellent chances and unlucky to strike the frame of the goal late on. Manager Stephen Robinson will be frustrated not to have at least netted one.

Points is all that matter right now as Rangers chase down Celtic and, once again, they have delivered.

  7. Nbada replaces Polworth; Marcondes starts for Hibspublished at 14:33 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January

    Kilmarnock v Hibernian (15:00)

Kilmarnock change just one from the side that dumped Dundee out of the Scottish Cup last weekend. Centre-back Corrie Nbada replaces Liam Polworth as Derek McInnes appears to switch to four at the back.

On-loan Liverpool midfielder James Balagizi could make his Kilmarnock debut from the bench after joining on loan, while there's no sign of new signing Greg Stewart at all.

Hibs have Paul Hanlon back after he missed the midweek defeat by Rangers through illness. He replaces Louis Stevenson in the back-line, with Jordan Obita back to his preferred left-back role.

Up top, Myziane Maolida is replaced with Emiliano Marcondes - the on-loan Bournemouth man expected to play in attacking midfield.

  8. Bernabei & Carter-Vickers start for Celtic; Four County debutspublished at 14:30 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January

    Celtic v Ross County (15:00)

Brendan Rodgers makes three changes to the Celtic side that cruised past Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup last weekend.

Cameron Carter-Vickers returns to central defence having signed a new long-term contract with the club yesterday, with Maik Nawrocki dropping to the bench.

There is a rare start at left-back for Alexandro Bernabei, in place of the injured Greg Taylor, while Callum McGregor comes in for Odin Thiago Holm in midfield. New signing Nicolas Kuhn makes the bench.

For County, Derek Adams has rung the changes from last weekend's Scottish Cup defeat against Partick Thistle.

There are debuts for Loick Ayina, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Teddy Jenks and Brandon Khela as the Dingwall side look for a much-improved performance.

Ayo Obileye returns from injury and James Penrice replaces sidelined full-back Cristian Montano in defence. Steven Bradley and Daniel MacKay - who grabbed the match-winner last weekend - start on the flanks, while Bruce Anderson leads the line in place of Kurtis Guthrie.

Joel Nouble, left out of Martindale's matchday squad versus Raith Rovers due to "interest from down south", makes the bench.

Dundee's Tony Docherty also opts to make a change in goal, with Harry Sharp replacing Trevor Carsons.

Midfielders Finlay Robertson, Mohamed Sylla and Scott Tiffoney come in for benched trio Lyall Cameron, Malachi Boateng and Zach Robinson.

There is a place on the bench for new arrival Michael Mellon, who joined on loan from Premier League outfit Burnley on Friday.

  11. FULL-TIME St Mirren 0-1 Rangerspublished at 14:22 Greenwich Mean Time 27 January

It was a bit nervy at times, but Rangers leave Paisley with the win that narrows that gap at the top with leaders Celtic to two points.

Cyriel Dessers' 12th goal of the season, pouncing a moment of hesitation by goalkeeper Zach Hemming, proved to be the decisive moment.

St Mirren had their chances but remain fifth.
