West Bromwich Albion captain Jed Wallace is back in the starting XI, replacing Tom Fellows. That's the only change from Tuesday's 2-0 home win against Cardiff.

Andreas Weimann, who has scored in each of the past two home games, is again on the bench.

Southampton manager Russell Martin has reacted to Tuesday's defeat at Bristol City by making four changes to his starting line-up.

Jack Stephens, Stuart Armstrong, Ryan Fraser and Sekou Mara are those brought in to start.

West Bromwich Albion: Palmer, Furlong, Kipre, Pieters, Townsend, Yokuslu, Mowatt, Swift, Johnstone, Thomas-Asante, Wallace.

Southampton: Bazunu, Stephens, Bednarek, Harwood-Bellis, Walker-Peters, Charles, Smallbone, S Armstrong, Fraser, A Armstrong, Mara.

If Southampton could have hand-picked a fixture to follow Tuesday's loss at Bristol City, a game at West Bromwich Albion would have been fairly low on their list.

Albion's outstanding home form has been the main reason why they are one of the main contenders for a Championship play-off spot; they have won 11, drawn three and lost two of their 16 league games at The Hawthorns this season.

They have won each of their past five at home in the Championship, keeping four clean sheets in the process.

Southampton's long unbeaten run had to finish sometime and so it proved on Tuesday when Saints lost 3-1 at Bristol City.

It was their first loss in 143 days and ended their undefeated streak at a club record 25 matches.

"The overall feeling is one of immense pride at what we have achieved recently," said manager Russell Martin after the defeat at Ashton Gate.

"The amazing run was always going to come to an end and now it is all about how we respond."

  6. The top of the Championshippublished at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February

West Brom v Southampton (20:00 GMT)

Leeds took advantage of Southampton’s midweek slip-up to move up to second place in the Championship, a position Saints will regain for a few hours at least if they win at The Hawthorns.

Barring a remarkable collapse by Leicester in the closing weeks of the season, it appears to be a three-horse race to be promoted automatically alongside the Foxes.

West Bromwich Albion are fifth, but any chance of them finishing in the top two would require them to be almost perfect from here on in.

There are five clubs within five points of the Baggies, so they cannot afford to let up if they are to participate in the end-of-season play-offs.

West Bromwich Albion head coach Carlos Corberan has been speaking to Sky Sports about the news of Shilen Patel's imminent takeover:

"It is a positive thing for the club. We are very pleased and looking forward to starting a new moment for the club. But in a very demanding period, I am fully focused to prepare for the game because we are playing many games in a row."

  8. 'Feeling of relief among Baggies fans'published at 19:45 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February

There are genuine smiles back on faces in the Black Country tonight.

After all these months and years of rumour and uncertainty, such is the feeling of relief among fans that the club is about to be taken over by new owners that it almost feels like they're walking on air... like Narnia after the White Witch has gone. Like Middle Earth after Mordor had fallen.

Whether that almost magical effect of prospective new chairman Shilen Patel's presence in the building will translate on to the pitch remains to be seen.

Let's face it, Albion's home form in their 16 months of Carlos Corberan rule has already proved pretty magical - 21 wins and only three defeats in 30 league games.

But they are not likely to get any tougher a test than a Southampton side looking to get back on the bike after their 25-match unbeaten run came a cropper at Bristol City on Tuesday.

The football home of the Lord Is My Shepherd up against the Saints. It could be all about belief tonight!

  9. Patel poised to complete West Brom takeoverpublished at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February

As if there was not enough spice on this fixture already, there will be even more attention on The Hawthorns after some big West Bromwich Albion news broke late on Thursday.

Shilen Patel is to become Albion chairman after a deal to purchase an 87.8% stake in the Championship club was agreed.

The takeover by Bilkul Football WBA, owned by Florida-based Patel and his father Kiran Patel, has been approved by the English Football League.

Shilen Patel said he "looks forward to the deal completing next week". Albion have been owned by Guochuan Lai since 2016.

We are starting to get to the business end of the Championship season and our focus for the next couple of hours turns to two of the teams hoping to be playing Premier League football in 2024-25.

Southampton have ambitions of finishing in the top two and a win at West Bromwich Albion will see them jump above Leeds into second place.

Automatic promotion looks to be beyond the Baggies, and while they are right in the mix for a play-off spot, there are a host of clubs just below them waiting to pounce if they tail off in the final third of the campaign.

Kick-off in the West Midlands is at 20:00 GMT.
